  2. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

ugh that show is so good.
  3. Duolingo - TWO LANGUAGE-O

Duolingo has an affiliated flash card site called tinycards. I mostly use the browser or the windows store app on my computer, but if you have an iOS device, (I can't speak to Android) they have added a functionality to allow you to practice speaking w/ a bot that has a script. I've done a few of these in german and they've been really nice.
  4. Endorsements from Thumbs Readers

I guess this is true in that in a philosophical sense what is truly knowable? But like Gormongous is in a PhD program in History, so I'm pretty inclined to take his word on this. My fiancee who is pursing a Geography PhD said this after reading Gorm's post "I could give some geographer perspective, but it's a lot of the same stuff with different words." 20th century history being contested tells me that 1. we're not that far out from it as a series of events and 2. more people got to tell their histories by increased access to written documentation than previous centuries.
  5. god I love this joke.
  6. Inside

I finally went back and finished this yesterday. This continues a trend for me where I keep picking up and playing games whose core gameplay isn't something I actually like, but I want to, and then I end up underwhelmed when I get frustrated by them. Puzzle platformers like this one and p&c adventures are the two biggest culprits for me. I actually really liked the way the game ended. I did not go collect everything needed for the secret ending. I did watch it on youtube though. I will def pick up PlayDead's next game, because I like what they do with ambiance and world building and making neat puzzles. I liked the mind control puzzles the best, and the swimming timing puzzles the least. I don't like trying to execute jumps perfectly or swimming timings very much. I just struggle to have the dexterity to execute some of the harder timing puzzles. That's not a problem with the game, but rather just a personal limitation. I would highly recommend it based on the environmental story telling and ambiance and world it builds alone.
  7. seriously though, just read everything Laura Hudson writes.
  8. Janine, the author of that article, is my video game shepherd and has never steered me wrong
  9. I liked but didn't love Scott Pilgrim either and have been unable to put my finger on why, and I never thought about it this way, but I think the unearned/over reliance on 'see this thing you recognize' is part of why! ty Jake for articulating this, because I'd never thought about this before.
  10. American Gods (TV series)

    *Gaiman
  11. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

I second all of this. Crazy Ex Girlfriend is one of only three shows (How to Get Away With Murder & New Girl being the other two) that I watch within 24 hours of them airing, and will watch them live if I can. It's devastatingly funny & frank & honest. I think it has a lot more affection for its characters than the season of Kimmy Schmidt I watched ever did.
  12. I've never heard anyone in my life refer to a garlic clove as a 'slice.'
  13. haven't listened yet, but I second Nick's earplug recommendation. Wear them to concerts. Wear them to work. Wear them to sleep. It mostly just cuts bullshit background noise and you get tinnitus symptoms less often. It's great!

i'm super into that double ended dog.
  19. i love laura hudson & i love her television writing http://www.vulture.com/2017/06/twin-peaks-recap-part-5.html
  20. Arrowverse (DC/CW shows): Arrow, The Flash, etc.

The CW has been super fast about getting things up on Netflix. Season 2 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend went up a week after it ended and Riverdale season 1 is already up. They don't put their stuff on Hulu anymore so I assume they have an exclusive external streaming deal with Netflix. (They have their own site/app that everything goes up on within 24 hours)
  21. Inside

Alright - I knocked out a big chunk of this game today, but have to take another break. So far I I am too freaked out by to play any more this session I have broken down and looked up a walk through for when I get stuck on puzzles. It's not the game's fault, I just don't like platforming puzzles very much and get frustrated if I have to do them too many times. So far there haven't been any puzzles that I've known what the solution was but just had too hard a time executing the platforming, which is something I ran into with Limbo. I will def report back when I finish the rest of it (likely tomorrow) but am into it. This game is scary in a way that I can deal with (no jump scares, mostly tension and ambiance) but I find it very draining to play for more than an hour or two at a time.
  22. The McElroy Family of Products

if you haven't listened to episode 2 of The McElroy Brothers Will Be In Trolls 2 (now in its own podcast feed), it's so fucking funny. Their manager Joel is so charming and bitingly funny.
  23. The McElroy Family of Products

people have been VERY hostile and VERY mean to them and to each other about this. the woodland secrets episode with Griffin touches on a lot of this stuff. TAZ is much more popular than they ever expected it to be and there are a lot of young people (including queer and or poc) in the fandom who have a lot of strong feelings about how people like them are portrayed in media. i wonder if they either change taako's (and the other characters') appearance with each volume of if they just don't make any more.
  24. jamesklambert, might I recommend you step away for a little bit and reflect on why you feel this way. You are not coming across very favorably right now, especially considering you're 1. newly posting to the forums and 2. Singling out the arguments of one of only a couple women who have been present in this conversation.
