I decided I needed to watch it after this comment, and it did not disappoint

That's fair. I really need to be grabbed by a comedy immediately to bother continuing, or at least need to see the glimmer of what it will become (The Mindy Project & New Girl fall into this category.) I'm much more forgiving of non-violent dramas usually.

My bf is so super into Dota 2 & watches pro Dota all the time, so I spend a lot of time Dota 2 adjacent. I don't play, but I think about the pros & community a lot. The fact that so many of the pro scene is kids around my age (23) who dropped out of college to go professional in esports is really fascinating to me, and everyone else is like high school students. I don't know if the pro scene demographics are an accurate reflection of the community at large, but I assume the toxicity comes largely from the immaturity? There aren't older mature players the way there might be in traditional sports. Like there's no Tim Duncan to guide and shape the 15 year olds. Fear is considered 'old' at like 27. Everyone is clumped around adolescence/young adulthood in a way that is unique to the newness of esports at large, but also just Dota/LoMas specifically. I am not sure where I'm going with this but it's something I've been kicking around in my head the past couple days.

I love Mike Judge's other stuff, but just can't get on board with Silicon Valley. My boyfriend is super into it, though. Instead, I continue to be perpetually disappointed by the lack of King of the Hill on Netflix.

We did the first half of this yesterday and it was a big hit with my parents. Like I said before, they don't like big cities and I think trying to go into SF with them would have been actually kind of a headache. Thank you for the recommendation! We did end up eating at a Guy Fieri restaurant in Santa Rosa which was pretty embarrassing.

I really like seeing players helping each other up. I don't like it when players act like they truly hate each other on the field/court/rink/etc, so a little compassion makes me happy.

Omg. I reference that movie all the time and really want to watch it again.

I love getting these shiny updates.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/06/sports/hockey/derek-boogaard-a-brain-going-bad.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 I read this a long time ago and after that my stomach turned and I couldn't justify to myself holding even a passing interest in the NHL. It's so easy to cut that part out of the game and instantly make the lives of the players better & I could in good conscience be even a casual fan.

Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.)

The violence is exactly what made me quit. I was able to handle the first few episodes because I was drinking and hanging out while we were watching, but when we picked back up again I just couldn't do it and kept thinking about all the other things that aren't super gross that I would rather spend my time watching. -
Pure seething hatred? : ) (I am not actually invested in any NBA rivalries as I am a fairly new fan, and as a result have not had much heartbreak. I'm much more invested in my NFL rivalries, specifically my distaste for the Chicago Bears.) My favorite thing is the imagined rivalry of Dallas/OKC and how fans of the Thunder talk about it all the time like it's a real thing.

I will definitely keep that in mind tabacco. My parents hate big cities, so they may actually prefer that to doing any of the touristy things in SF.
-
I lived in Norman, OK for about 9 months, and OKC fans there are insufferable. I know there are nice people who like the Thunder, and I have to remind myself of that constantly or else I become a bitter monster. jeremywc, I'm not even going to dignify that with any real response except & <3

I drank a bunch of wine last weekend and watched the first 3 or so with my boyfriend and liked them. We watched episode 4 while I was very sober and I very much did not like it and told him to watch the rest without me. -
I did giggle really hard at that video tegan. excellent pick.

: ( I believe in you tegan.

My parents are coming into town next Wednesday through Monday of the following week & I'm trying to come up with things to do with them in SF as well as the central valley. We're in Davis, and anticipate maybe coming into SF one day to do fisherman's wharf and see the street cars & hit Muir woods so they can see Redwoods. Any lunch spot recommendations in the area of fisherman's wharf that I can take them to? Other than that day we'll probably stay in the central valley, closer to Sacramento, if anyone has been to any of the wineries not in Napa/Sonoma. If there are any recommendations for the Sac Area as well I would welcome them. (I think we're going to hit Calaveras Park. for some more different redwoods.) Thanks in advance! (We've lived in Davis for over a year now but have made it into SF for only Day of the Devs last year & to see The Room on Valentine's day this year, so I am not exactly familiar with even the most obvious of attractions.)

I had a burger for dinner last night too! I didn't take a picture of it because it was much less pretty than tegan's burger.

The giggles of glee when he figures something out, or executes a move he's particularly proud of sell me on the stream so hard.

NBA Playoffs start and the Mavs are playing the Rockets and I'm sure to develop an ulcer from the stress that I put myself through each playoff season. Being on the West Coast makes it much harder to watch basketball because of time zones. When I lived in the Midwest I would watch like 3 games a night most nights of the week while doing homework & hanging out, but now I'm lucky if I catch half a game.

USA! #1. greatest country on Earth. Eat one while wearing this:http://store.camposanto.com/products/video-games-t-shirt

moddy, I don't know where you are located, but I know that pretty much every public library in the USA now has access to ebooks & audiobooks, so even if you are too busy to go check out and return books, you can find a ton of stuff on whatever network your particular library is subscribed to, all you have to do is have a library card. Obviously that isn't super helpful if you don't have a public library card and it's too inconvenient to get one, but it's a super great thing to use if you have the chance. It's how I read the Robert Galbraith (JK Rowliing) mystery novels since they're super expensive in hardback and I can't justify dropping the $ on a book I will definitely only read once and don't have any desire to show off on my bookcase.

I love Haruki Murakami. Norwegian Wood is an interesting one because it's Murakami's attempt at the standard romantic novel that is super popular in Japan. It's much less surreal and unresolved as a result, and I think the most accessible. I think the books taught me how to deal with a lack of satisfying resolve; That every book is going to leave some things unanswered, and you have to accept that. Haruki Murakami is pretty much the only author that I will buy in hardcover when his books come out, but I can see why they're not for everyone.

We're currently in California, and I think for a while I'll be able to survive off of the sunshine, but I'll hit a point where I'll need to return to the land of fried cheese & John Deere.

My childhood home is on an enormous hill that makes it impossible to walk or bike anywhere in town. It does mean you get an amazing view of the Mississippi river from the park a block from that house, so you win some, you lose some.
