My undergrad will call me periodically. The annual fund (what my tiny liberal arts school calls the fundraising department) hires students for work study money to call through and ask for donations. They waited about a year after I graduated before they started calling, and I told them that I didn't make enough money to donate, and no one called me again for like 9 months, and by that time I actually had a steady job and could give $10. The only reason I got to go there was because the huge financial aid package they gave me, and they only had that because people donated to the annual fund. I love my alma mater, and it was a very important time for me, and I'm very thankful to be in a position, where even though I'll be paying off my student loans for a long time, I at least can contribute some tiny amount to helping some other kid go there.

Also hiring for those 2 positions may be handled by 2 completely different people, and as such they would not know that you applied for both.

I am very much interested in the Kiki's Delivery Service & Princess Mononoke. Use the same paypal as for your art?

Idle Thumbs 209: Ten Percent Success Rate

I feel like Gary's Dank-o's should be like Oreo edibles. -
One of my favorite webcomics, A Softer World, is coming to a close. Joey Comeau & Emily Horne have been hugely influential in shaping my tastes during my teens and early 20's and I'm sad to see it go, but all good things must come to an end. They've successfully kickstarted a printing of the final volume. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1383288262/the-anatomy-of-melancholy-the-best-of-a-softer-wor Mostly I just love how charming their kickstarter videos are.

My boss gives me a company car to drive because he doesn't trust my boyfriend's 2000 Pontiac Grand Am (shocking I know.) He gave me that starting back in November, so that plus the raise puts me in a really nice place. I was able to get that 50% raise and it was mostly painless, especially when I explained to him that this was the only way I wasn't going to suffocate under the weight of my student loans forever. tegan, I'm glad you were able to get your prescription, but I'm sorry it's not covered from insurance. I'll continue to highly recommend you on twitter to my mostly robot followers, and will think about what delightful thing I could have you draw. Now that I won't be pinching every penny, I have more flexibility in helping out.

I got a promotion today and am getting a raise, but I have to negotiate it and a lifetime of deferring conflict by being raised in a patriarchal society has left me totally unequipped to do this. I haven't been trained to accurately know my worth. I have a Math degree from a very good liberal arts school, and took this job last May because I literally had no other options and needed to start helping my boyfriend pay rent before his school year ended (along with his TA stipend and he had no summer income.) As a result of my desperation, I agreed to a starting wage that is very small in relation to the cost of living in Davis, and deserve this raise, but it's scary to ask for a 50% raise, but I know it will be less stressful than constantly worrying about money.

I've gotten super into the casino games in the Pokemon games before, and will periodically fall down the deep deep hole of fake Pokemon when I go back to World of Warcraft. I also got super into the higher/lower game in Harvest Moon for the DS. I watch mostly walking every week, a show by Day9 on twitch where he and 2 of his former classmates from USC play an adventure game together. Day9 kept taking huge diversions into playing the sudoku minigame in the Nancy Drew game that they were playing.

I like to click through this thread to see everyone's impressions of things, because I respect everyone's opinions despite my full experience with anime shows are Sailor Moon (Dic dub & the new Hulu subs), Sailor Moon Crystal, Pokemon, Hamtaro & Full Metal Alchemist, so I never have any idea what anyone is talking about, but this post about marching band made me want to try this show so bad, if only to return to being 14-17 years old in my Drillmasters & my wool uniform. I can't find a picture of myself with my plumed helmet, but you should know, it was a really good look for me.

Here we are at Armstrong Woods. It went over very well.

It's starting to get warm and he's losing his winter coat, and he's got a really dense fur coat that means he's shedding even more than before. I always forget that it's possible that he could shed more, then spring happens. His dense fur makes it so he's really soft, but also so that it looks like his collar is way too tight because it sinks into his fur, even though I can fit like 3 fingers in between it and his neck, so you'll just see his tags seemingly floating in front of his chest. https://instagram.com/p/18oNk5GntX/

If you, like me, live in the US and want to watch Steven Universe but neither want to drop the $ to buy the eps from Amazon/iTunes/whatever, but also don't want to pirate it, they just added a bunch of it & Adventure Time to Hulu, so that's what I will be watching with my boyfriend while we eat dinner for a while.

I liked so much hair this weekend, I even liked my own! -
1. I think ppd is a bad guy to watch if you don't like that. 2. I'm honestly not always thrilled with his word choice as he too easily slides into unnecessary name calling. 3. I think he's made a conscious effort to not have a short fuse in the past year, but I don't know how successful he's been in that. It's something I think about a lot, actually, as I scold my boyfriend whenever he talks shit to his teammates, mostly because it's really annoying to sit next to. I think being able to opt in (or out) of ppd's feed that makes a big difference. Obviously his teammates don't have that privilege, but his teammates ostensibly should understand the game at a level that my goofball boyfriend does not. The games that he gets mad during are usually games where his teammates don't think about team composition, and roll out with 4 cores and 1 support. Or, in the case of the game he got mad during last night, one guy consistently telling their teammates what to do, only to get them killed over and over. PPD tried to tell them not to listen to him, and just became increasingly frustrated by his teammates following a man with a butt for a brain into battle and them being confused about how they died. (For example: constantly initiating fights where butt-for-brains was outnumbered, deciding that if he just went for it the rest of the team would follow, which they would do, and then they all die.)

Aui_2000 & PPD makes me go all heart eye emojis. Peter went through a breakdown of his 10 picks last night on his stream & said he was going to put on his youtube. I'll add it here after he posts it, because I think he was actually really thoughtful. After he finished that ranking, he was in a game where it was so bad and he was so angry that he ended up muting his mic for the stream and flaming his teammates in chat for being trash. It was kind of impressive how long he tried to kill them with kindness before just mentally breaking.

Even if you hadn't missed them going on sale it's fairly unlikely you would have gotten one anyway because they sold out pretty much instantly, even people who were frantically refreshing didn't even get a chance to see them on sale because the ticketmaster website is such garbage.

I will definitely check that out!

I found the first few episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt enjoyable purely because of the incandescent joy that emanates from Ellie Kemper. (She was also the only part of Bridesmaids that I enjoyed.) I also lost interest fairly quickly. My weekly television habits are as follows: The Mindy Project, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine & Sailor Moon episodes on Hulu. Other than that, Parks & Rec is a gem. I thought season 7 was very weak though. 30 Rock is amazing. Now that I think about it, the majority of comedies I watch/love are woman led shows. I know a lot of people love Broad City. It just didn't click with me.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

I have a Windows Phone, and I actually really love Cortana????? -
I need to find a doctor and go for an annual check up for the first time forever. I also need to go to the eye doctor. My parents switched insurance providers so that even across the country I'm still in the network. I already went to the dentist after part of my orthodontia broke last month.

Yeah, it was on for a while, but was taken down in the fall of 2013. I know because me & my boyfriend watched a ton of it while it was still up, but didn't manage to get all the way through it.
