  1. The McElroy Family of Products

http://theadventurezone.tumblr.com/post/156408144062/about-the-suffering-game Griffin talked about this arc some, and I think has some great things to say about the choices he's made on this arc. I'm very interested to see what happens next episode with the This arc is very Danganronpa. The looping arc dragged for me more than this one does, though honestly.
  2. Best Films of 2016

Yeah, OJ:MiA is a documentary miniseries that they had full length screenings for in part to allow for Oscars eligibility. It's phenomenal movie making & a successful effort of putting the events of the case & trial in conversation with the historical context of LA at the time the trial occurred as well as what happened in the decades preceding the trial. I really only see movies that I know that I will like in theaters anymore. Besides OJ & La La Land, I also loved Edge of Seventeen, but didn't really see anything else that I loved or didn't like. (I liked CA:Civil War & Rogue One, but did not love them)

  5. Honestly, I haven't listened to an episode since the last time Spaff was on as a guest, but hearing that you guys aren't restricting yourselves to games will actually make me come back tbh. I kind of said my piece about liking musical chairs for the template of the show, and I understand that that isn't feasible, but a pivot from games focused to culture including games is a change to the format that will encourage me to add you back into the rotation. I love this community and the people in it enough that I have continued to frequent the forums even w/o listening to the show, but I am excited to get back in to it.
  6. Best Films of 2016

The best/my favorite movie I watched in 2016 was OJ: Made in America, but my second favorite was La La Land.

  14. Idle Thumbs 295: Good... Bye

Hatoful Boyfriend is in my top 5 favorite games of all time and the off handed promise that Sean made like a year and a half ago to play and talk about it that never came to pass haunts me everyday. For anyone interested in the game I have advice: 1. If you do not have any familiarity with Japanese otome/romance visual novels, I recommend seeking one out, a play through on youtube/etc. This is a homage, a parody, and a subversion of the format and while entirely playable, it may not make sense in places if you don't understand the references. 2. Play through ALL the endings. Many VNs are like this. Learn to use the skip key on subsequent playthroughs, and see as many endings as you can. There may be a few endings that elude you. Use a guide to unlock them! The best story Hatoful Boyfriend has to offer is only unlocked after you see the other birdies' endings. Man I love Hatoful Boyfriend.
  15. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I saw this on Christmas Eve and I liked it! I enjoyed watching both Diego Luna and Felicity Jones. I want to buy Jyn's badass leather jacket and steal all your girlfriends.

  18. GOTY.cx 2016

I ended up only liking a lot of games I thought I would love this year. The only game I really and truly loved was Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
  19. This is unnecessarily super aggressive.
  20. Recently completed video games

I finished Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE last night. More like TMS #GOTY. I loved this game. I loved the characters. I loved the combat. I loved the music videos. Start to finish a delight.
  21. aoanla, i remember the last time this coming up really appreciating your points and opinions and agreeing with you pretty heartily. I think it's ground so fraught right now with gate keeping that it's super duper hard to have a nuanced conversation about it even in a community as normally even keeled as this one. I just don't think it's a particularly interesting or productive conversation to have right now and wish that it hadn't been brought up.
  22. ugh please not the 'definition of game' thing again
  23. awww dunk that's so cool!
  24. Sports!

Craig Sager died and I'm crying at my desk at work.
