  1. Books, books, books...

Well after a brief discussion of DevOps in class I've picked up a copy of The Phoenix Project. I'm prepared for a skeptical reading of what feels like the new version of The Deadline.
  2. Pathfinder: The Low Moon Guild

Yeah I don't like Archetypes too much in Pathfinder at least in other classes. I'm more about playing the character with a little bit of variation into things that are needed rather than specialisation. I can pick up the healing hex rather early on but since it functions as Cure Light Wounds that will be tricky to do in the middle of battle as it's a touch spell used by a character with 7hp at the most (at lvl 1). Nothing's written in stone as of yet anyway especially since I'll be going over the character creation with Jason later. Btw I'm on standbye to do that. I can check back every half hour or so in slack but if I estimated the time we were meant to be doing then my bad. I think I said around this hour give or take 1-2 but maybe I missed something to confirm it.
  3. Pathfinder: The Low Moon Guild

Hey guys I'm thinking about joining. Currently pondering a witch! They're not a full healer but they do have a lot of healing utility at low levels. They're more about control though. But they do come with a lot of Arcane skills.
  4. I've been playing it in small jumps every few months. I enjoy it a lot but typically get rekt by it's small pool of players with mid to advanced experience/skill with those games. That said it's loyal community is growing and the devs are very friendly. Players are pretty competitive focused but they're a good sort. You can find discords for both the main game and your region pretty easily too if you want to set up duels, ctf, etc. I know that the Aussie crowd has CTF Tuesdays, and tournaments semi regularly. Something you probably noticed in that vid is that you can fully customise your UI widgets and it's actually pretty easy to do. You can find guides for it on Steam and on the main Forums. The map maker tools are really friendly now too.
  5. anime

In a world without Mako Mankanshoku you may have been right. But in This World You are Sorely Mistaken. : P I haven't actually watched much anime for a loong time. As an edgy teen I used to watch darker ones like Monster, Berserk, Gilgamesh, Desert Punk (not dark at all early on), Darker Than Black, FMA, Death Note, etc. But haven't done much since. Watched Attack On Titan, Kill La Kill and One Punch Man since 2013. The Boy and I loved Kill La Kill. We hated some moments quite intensely but overall I took it for playing with a lot of the dumb tropes of anime rather than just enjoying them. Sure it also ate it's cake too like Spring Breakers did. But We loved both of those in their own way. KLK really did save anime for me. For all it's faults. One Punch Man reminded me that other anime are still good. I'm trying to watch FMA Brotherhood now since Boo says it's his favourite anime. It's been long enough that I'm not bored from the show going over the other series plot points for 10+ episodes. Also looking at Jojo's again but it's sidelined for now. I might take a look at Soul Reaper, Tokyo Ghoul, and Black Butler some time but I'm not sure how much I'll like at least two of those. I'm excited for new Berserk anime this year. I'm able to deal with the weird 3d/2d animation blend they're going with but I'm still disappointed they're doing it.
  6. I wasn't sure how spoilery you wanted but ok here's the full dish.
  7. I've been watching a mid game pvper and it seems like a good range for pvp is 65 with a +6 weapon if you like fighting in the Aldrich Faithful area. Also lately I've been hearing people saying that SL120 is the end game pvp range. Is there anything to the contrary to that? I'm pretty sure 150 won't be because unlike DS2 you can pretty much have everything by then.
  8. So all of the lords of cinder have previously linked the fire. For some reason they've been revived now from their tombs. But instead of relinking the fire (which to be fair probably means their oblivion) they've buggered off across the lands leaving the world to grow dark again and the flames to gutter.
  9. That was so good to watch. A really nice start to my day
  10. Hyper Light Drifter

It would be nice to have it as an option though. I haven't played much more than East and West since DS3 came out and it'd be great if I had the chance to see which style of balance I preferred. I know they're mostly slight changes but still.
  11. Multi targeting is still there but so far reserved for the truly big bosses. I don't really understand luck either but you can alter a weapon's quality to scale with it. My first instinct was that luck would scale crits as well as magic find but I don't really know if crits exist in DS or if that would instead be tied to Dex. Oh ok I thought it was a bug. I've found a nice bow with a multi arrow special. It's early enough in the game but it would be a complete stroke of luck to find it unless you received a minor spoiler after watching one of the VaatiVidya video's on Dark Souls 3. Along that lines if you hold down on the D-pad your item slot will quick switch to the first item in the que which makes for easy estus use and doesn't punish you as much for holding too many items. Btw some guy made a pretty great breakdown on . The best take home message is that every armour slot offers the same amount of flat damage reduction for magical or physical whether you're wearing Havel's or deprived rags; flat damage reduction does scale as you level so don't feel too underwhelmed when you first notice the amount.. What changes between armour sets is percent damage reduction which is applied after the flat reduction. Apparently that falls off towards 25% reduction. You can find the numbers in two columns with flat on the left and % on the right. So always remember to wear something in every slot. If you like having a free headslot there are some headgears that don't hide a lot. Still a bummer for some people but with head slots specifically you'd take 10% more phys damage without anything in that slot; up to 50% more damage taken if you're completely naked.
  12. When I first started my game I created the sellsword style character and the game promptly crashed every time I got into the game proper as my character entered the world. When I was looking at how to solve the problems two fixes came up. One simply said to create a Knight class and never, ever take the helmet off. The other was to set the lighting setting to Low. I did the latter and it completely fixed the crashing problem for me. I know some bug fixes have gone out but right now I'm too chicken to see if that issue is fixed for me yet. The worst graphical hitch I get is that every now and then my physical memory will climb to 89% usage and I'll start getting 1 frame every 5 seconds but that doesn't happen all the time . I notice it in the Shrine a bunch but usually after a few hours in. The most annoying thing I've found is that the grey fog walls come back to the shrine making it super hard to go outside there because the walls seem to let me pass through sometimes but not all the time.. Still having fun and it's a great game yadda yadda. I've found the winter zone which looks amazing but I need to go back through to the Cathedral.
  13. I've made it past the first lord. It was sooo intense. Tangential/not explicit spoiler? Duck Souls is a gud game. Quack quack Quack.
  14. I started playing at the same time as another mate and we chatted about the opening on Discord. This game is soo good. I can't wait to do some cheesy pvp later. I like that some of the starting classes allow you to go hybrid a lot earlier than before so I'm thinking an assassin with a bit of sorcery thrown in would be a lot of fun around the low lying areas.
  15. I think a lot of the rooms in HLD were designed with the player having one or two upgrades in mind which makes it for me at least a game that is much harder at the start especially if you (like me) didn't notice the game signposting you to one area in the map through a diagram found in the apartment in town. I've been two other locations than that place and both were really challenging. But each place was made a lot easier with the upgrades I went on to buy. I think one of the strengths of the game is that like Dark Souls if you do want to progress in the game you largely don't have to live.die.repeat on one boss. Unlike Souls your alternative as an underpowered character isn't to go farm Undead Berg but to go make observable progress in another area of the map.
  16. Hyper Light Drifter

Here's an interesting article from a few years back. How A Lifetime Of Heart Disease Birthed Hyper Light Drifter
  17. I've been enjoying HLD a lot and I've been semi following it since I first heard about it around 2012/2013. One of the things that struck me about your discussion of it was the point that the game doesn't compromise it's accessibility given it's possibly niche visual style and it got me thinking about a fact I picked up from a while back (I think it was a very old RPS interview and re-reading it now I'm thinking that because of the one of (?) the lead developer's the game is very uncompromising for the vision of the scope and style of story it would tell. How A Lifetime Of Heart Disease Birthed Hyper Light Drifter Essentially the creator was a freelance artist at the time with a style that was described as very insular. Anyway a few years ago he finally picked up the threads of the game that have been in his head for a long time and decided to make the game he's always wanted to I guess. Anyway I'm loving the game. I've never actually played a Zelda like game and I was partially drawn to this on the idea that it was a Zelda style game for PC. I was definitely taken by the sound design and art first though. For some reason when I think of games to compare this gameplay to what immediately comes up is Devil May Cry and Hotline Miami and I'm not quite sure why. HM is obviously a vibrant puzzle/twitch style game But I'm sure there are closer comparisons with other games.
  18. Pre-ordered. I don't do that very much at all but man am I keen for this game. I have a bunch of hand ins due around the first few days so sadly I can't let the abyss envelop me as thoroughly as I'd like but still..
  19. Rat Fur Dead - Warhammer: Endtimes - Vermintide

When you're in the pub you can press L to go to the server menu fast (every other menu has a short cut I think). Try to look for lobbies with Easy games since it's still quite challenging. the game lends itself to grinding out a difficulty tier until you can gear up a character or two with at least one of the next best set of equipment. You can equip loot charms to make sure drops only come for the character you're playing and you can look at crafting things up too. I wouldn't try the harder or nightmare difficulties until you have a good trinket at the least since one or two hits will kills you by the end of the mission if you're low tier. Probably one of the handiest thing a high level friend can do is to run you through high tier missions so you can pick up some magic or rare loot. Anyway i found the game pretty fun but I think I caught the game on the tail edge of it's popularity among my friends and I recently deleted it to make room for DS3. Would still play if I had the space.
  20. Idle Food - Cooking!

Hopefully this is the right place! I made a ceviche using Warehou following a Jamie Oliver recipe for Peruvian Ceviche and it turned out really nice. The fish wasn't too cooked by the acid and it blended nicely with the serving herbs and olive oil. I'm stoked. I don't make food often but I do get ideas to try out 'fancy' recipes so I'm happy it all paid off.
  21. Hyper Light Drifter

It does point you north? I just went east aha.
  22. Hyper Light Drifter

So I just fought the first boss my first boss and everything clicked. The death-restart loop was enjoyable; the challenge was punishing but exciting. I think this is the game for me. Stoked that this turned out to be something I can love. I think I'll pick up that bullet dash for my first upgrade.
  23. Hyper Light Drifter

I might have come across a bit reserved about this game in slack but the thing is I really want to like it. I've been chasing this game's development since I first heard about it around 2013/2012. As soon as I saw the art style, foudn that the gameplay was taking from Zelda (which I haven't played but always wanted to), heard that Baths the artist who practically wrote my Minecraft playlist I've been wanting this game. I actually pre ordered this soundtrack a year ago and just bought the game today. Reading the review from John Walker and hearing Badfinger's experience of the game made my heart sink a little. So I've been reserved as I play this. What I've found has mostly been atmospheric and wonderful. But there are moments that feel bullet hellish, frenetic, and lucky, rather than skilled or controlled. Thankfully each of the live, die, repeat loops that I have been caught in are more like learning experiences rather than acts of insanity. It's taken a bit to get used to twin stick shooting on a controller since I do all of my gaming on pc (I use a controller for rpgs/xcom but it's not the same style). The only exception to the learning experience rule has been the fire puzzles which apparently are almost undo-able unless you have a certain skill unlocked. I think that's a shame. I like the idea that all puzzles in a game are completable But are immensely harder without the requisite skills. Not simply impossible as seems to be the case. Some of the things I would like to know are a little too obtuse. Thankfully I've been able to deal with most of those and I do appreciate how inexplicit the game is in many areas. I do rather like twitch games like Nuclear Throne and I love Teleglitch too. But I think where this game differs is that you'll go back to a checkpoint where Drifter struggles back to his feet in a slow paced animation rather than a full reset like those games or Hotline Miami. Sometimes Drifter will be stuck in a loop where an undodgable projectile hits him right as you restart. It's that kind of thing that starts to annoy you as you realise you have to port back to the area's main Nexus and slowly traverse to the current bullet hell puzzle that's stumping you. I know it's not quite a bullet hell game but when you have 10 ranged enemies all jumping around with more spawning in it's the closest comparison to make. So I'm liking the game but yeah, some things are annoying. Guess I am still reserved. Hah.
