Well I can't say much about your game, but I too know that IDLETHUMBSDOTNET is my #1 place for E3 coverage.

If you are making a Gone Home style thing, Ben Esposito's first person drifter controller might be of some interest to you.
  4. Oh cool, glad to see I'm wrong.
  5. Hey you folks who have an SSD as your primary drive, where do you install your games? It looks like with steam all the games have to go to the same drive, which is kind of unfortunate.

The McElroys are not experts, and their advice should never be followed...
  9. This is the read I get of the situation as well, all I really know about Sunset is that it was kickstarted game, and now it's a released game. Most other small games will do a lot of work between those points. Were there demos at conventions? Previews for press? Throwing the devs on podcasts? Anything? I don't know, but this story is giving me an appreciation for why studios have the outward facing media person. 4000 units is scarily low. It's not as if this is their first game, they have a reputation, why didn't they capitalize on it? Accessibility should complement their art, not hinder it. Their messaging was bad, or worse, absent.

I like to jump on top of one of the fairies and just keep my character bouncing there, then I turn the volume up on the gamepad and confuse my dog. Video games.
  11. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I agree it was a fitting end, but it would have done much better if it stood in contrast to other plot lines, unfortunately it felt like a footnote in an episode that was wrapping up plot lines left and right.
  12. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I was also not enjoying this season as much, and I think Ben and Reyturner are helping me understand why. I totally agree with Ben about the pacing, and Reyturner mentioning that the artifice is showing is spot on.
  13. Idle Food - Cooking!

I smoked ribs, turkey thighs, and potatoes on my propane barbecue. The ribs aren't the most tender, but the taste can't be beat.

  15. Splatoon is Ink-redible

I got the game last night, and turned the motion controls off after a little while. I think I'll turn 'em on and play more single player. When playing with the stick alone, I thought I was seeing some vertical jumping in my crosshair, does anyone else notice this?

Happy to help. You should ask if they can do you one with vegan gravy but real cheese curds, cheese curds so good.

My coworker loaded this up in the office. Super good!
  18. Life

Hey, so I was on a trip of my own and couldn't respond to this, but I'm totally happy to give some advice and echo what others have said now that I'm back home. The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is one of the best museums I have been to, totally worth checking out. The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) doesn't compare to what you might find in New York or Chicago, but its Canadian collection is probably second only to the National Gallery in Ottawa, so I'd really only make that recommendation if you're into art. Casa Loma is a house built to look like a castle, and is maintained as a museum, worth a look. Go up the CN Tower, it's tall, and has a great view. If you want an extra thrill they do the "Edge Walk" where they let you walk around the outside of the tower, you have to book that in advance. At the base of the CN Tower you have the Steamwhistle Brewery and Ripley's Aquarium. I haven't been to the aquarium yet but I hear it's good. The brewery tour is fun for sure. I really like going to the Toronto Islands, but, for me it has always been a way to escape the city, so I'm not sure it's the first thing I'd suggest if you want to do city things. The best way to see them is on a bike, and the ferry ride over gets you great views of the city. Kensington Market is a cool neighbourhood with an eclectic mix of stores and people. I like going there to buy cheap sunglasses and Chilean empenadas. Yelp will go a long way to find you good food and drink where ever you are in the city. Get Well is my favourite bar in the city, lots of craft beer and arcade games. Pizzeria Libretto is a VPN certified pizzeria, and has a few locations across the city. Try and get yourself some poutine. Smoke's or Poutiney's do a good one. If you like sports, Jays games are cheap, and Real Sports Bar was rated ESPN's best sports bar a couple years ago. If you like beer, Bar Volo and Amsterdam Brewhouse could be worth a look. Bar With No Name has board games you can play, for free. High Park is a nice park with a cute zoo in it. Avoid the Toronto Zoo, it's on a far border of the city and is really spread out, making for a day of walking and driving. The Distillery District is a historic part of the city, a bit touristy, but quite beautiful. Mill Street Brewpub is down there and a good place to eat and drink. That's my disorganized thoughts on cool things to do in the city. When I travel to the US, I just buy some roaming packages through my cell provider, I paid 50 bucks for unlimited texts, calls and 250 mb of data. I would hazard a guess that a US carrier will have better prices than that. Hope that helps.
  19. Construct 2

That's cool. To get a game to that point would probably be like 3 - 5 hours of work in unity for me, so that seems pretty legit.
  20. Construct 2

I'm curious to see how your time with Construct 2 goes Clyde. I know I was pretty impressed with it when I fiddled with it a few years ago, but I haven't touched it since.

I downloaded a solid rotation of MBMBAM, Sawbones, and Judge John Hodgman to play in the car during the road trip I'm on. My girlfriend isn't much of a podcast listener, but is really digging these three, especially Sawbones. It's really helping with the long stretches of driving. Happy to see Patrick Klepek getting a podcast thing going. He's definitely one of my favorite people to hear discuss games, his Q&A podcast is pretty good, but I think he'll totally benefit from not being a lone voice.

  23. Life

Today marks the start of the second week of my two week vacation. We've already done about 4000 km of driving, and are poised to finish around twice that. We've seen a lot of beautiful vistas along Canada's east coast, and, in our time in Newfoundland we saw dozens of icebergs and puffins. We're about to hit the road again, its been go go go kind of trip, but I had to take a few minutes to check in on my favorite internet hangout.
