Watching Shoah right now, fuck, is it intense. Ever since watching Son of Saul I've been reading and watching things on the Sonderkommandos and the Holocaust.
  2. anime

Watching Gatchaman Crowds and I'm enjoying it. I'm especially enjoying the Moebius aesthetic that in the sci-fi/otherworld architecture. They even have crystal people! I wonder if this is a nod to the crystal era of Moebius? I may be looking to deep into that aspect. EDIT: SHIT! Even the paper birds that JJ is using is totally a Moebius nod!

The new monster factory was so good. I saw it at a coffee shop and i couldn't stop laughing; everyone in the shop gave me weird looks.
  7. The Next President

Even if Sanders gets the nomination (which he won't) and gets into the presidency, will he be able to do much during his term? Especially when both houses will be runned by Republicans. I feel like we will have another gridlock where nothing is done. Even though I don't like Hillary, I feel like she's the only one that can work within this heavy partisan atmosphere we're in. I just hope she does pull the same shit that Bill did during his presidency: passing laws that heavily punished black people in criminal system and the super predators bullshit. If Trump gets the nomination, I just can't see him winning. I feel that the Democratics will have the presidency for a while, while the Republicans will have the Senante and Congress.
  8. The Next President

From my experience I've felt both and having studied white supremacy; hell, even fallen into its trappings--long story. I think I've just become numb or just used to that type of racism. Maybe that's why I'm not that surprised. In my studies and experiences, you realize how overt and subtle white supremacy is in the US.
  9. The Next President

Nah. I've seen and felt it ever since I moved up here. To feel ashamed you have to know why you're feeling it--for the most part. The problem I think is ignorance and actually thinking we've moved from it is the problem; especially, when it comes from white liberals who think they're never racist because they're liberal or because they think they've never had a racist thought--in the sense that most people think as racist-- or a mixture of both formers.

Here's that Reveal episode on Trump https://www.revealnews.org/episodes/pumped-on-trump/
  11. The Next President

I'm not that surprised that someone like Trump would rise the ranks and become popular. I'm surprised this hasn't happened earlier because of how rampant and intertwined white supremacy is in the US. I'm surprised by people being surprised that Trump got this popular. What country have you been living in? What surprises me tho is how diverse the people who are voting for Trump are. Reveal did a wonderful episode on the voters of Trump. My father is a Trump voter and supporter and I can definitely see his appeal. Also, if Trump does become president, oh well. Just one more bullshit to deal with. I love this country-even tho it doesn't love me-too much to move. Those thinking about Cananda. If I'm not mistaken, the far right is rising there too; it's just under-reported and covered. White supremacists do attack minitoiries there and it is becoming a problem. Also, fuck the identity votes. I'm an Arab-Mexican and I fucking hate that people automatically assume I'm voting dem because of that.

Fuck me, it's been a while since I've been deeply affected by a movie. I came out of that movie shell shocked. One thing that really grabbed me was the sound design. The film is shot completely in close-up, which gives it a very distorting feel and you get lost easily. You're moving around the camp seeing its different components, but you only see bits and pieces of it and the rest is hidden or distorted, that's when the sound design comes in. It fills the hidden and distorted. I felt like I could envision what the camp looked like through the sounds and what was going on within the camp. Not a lot of films can pull this off, but a film that restricts your vision needs that extra help hand to show you its environment. Another thing that really grabbed me was how lived in the world and its characters felt. Everything had its place, its schedule, its way of life and we are jumping in a time where that routine is going to be broken or changed; its all distorting and it's up to us to fill in what's going on and get into the groove of the lives of the Sonderkommandos. There are random prayers, conversations, dinners and the like that has no bearing on the plot or the characters but are there to make the world alive and breathing. Is this making sense? I'm having a hard time trying to articulate this idea. Son of Saul is a modern masterpiece and if its playing near you, go watch it.
  17. SUPERHOT

I loved the story but I'm a sucker for that meta, postmodern, johnny mnemonic-esque story. I never really felt that frustrated playing the game. Even when I was repeating certain levels multiple times because I kept dying because how cheap some of the spawns were. I always felt that I would beat in a few more tries.

Going to the beach today. One the way I'm going to pick up some cigs and coffee. And tomorrow my best friend--the first friend I made when I moved to Cali--might be coming up to visit. Just the idea of him maybe visiting excites me. I love that man.

Saw The Witch today and I enjoyed it a lot. It didn't live up to the critic hype, but I think that's because I saw it in a theater and I hate watching films surrounded by people. When it comes out on DVD, I'll re-watch it and I think I feel different about it. It's definitely an under-the-skin horror film and the build up to the ending was masterful pulled off and well deserved.
