  1. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

In a nice turn of events, Ground Zeroes (I hate that title) is free on PS+ in June. I was just about to buy that, and it'll probably spur me on to pick up MGS 2&3 which I've been waiting to go on sale.
  2. Nintendo 3DS

I play while my partner is watching TV, or when I'm lying in bed. Love a bit of monster hunting after dinner.
  3. No Man's Sky

I've only seen people saying how amazing it will be. I'm skeptical too, but that's because I hate Minecraft, and there's been a lot of talk about how similar they are.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

There's a huge difference between eating healthy and not being picky. I don't have any problem with someone who chooses to eat badly, it's hard not to, that shit is delicious. People who don't try new things is what really irritates me. I wouldn't be reccomending it if it tasted bad! I cut out soda when I was an overweight teenager. Helped me lose a lot of weight very quickly. It's amazing how many calories are in 2-4 cans of coke.
  5. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

JRPGs aren't for everyone. The only one I've ever managed to finish is Persona 4. The rest I burn out on, find the cast irritating, the writing weak or the combat tedious. I just don't even touch them any more. Except Paper Mario. That's a great JRPG.
  6. Idle Food - Cooking!

I accidentally made around 2kg of dumplings once. They froze pretty well, the miso soup did not.
  7. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Man, it's Wednesday! Are the servers even up yet?
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

I've never understood this. You see it a lot in the UK and US, where parents will cook a separate meal for their child. How does that make sense? I just ate whatever my parents were eating. If I didn't like it, then I'd get told off and no replacement. I don't see how that's taking a break, it seems like more hard work. On mainland Europe it's practically unheard of for a kid to have a separate meal. I also do the same, I treat picky eaters as kids because to me, they behave like kids. "I don't like this thing I've never had before" drives me nuts. I've ended nascent relationships over that. Food is super important to me, Id find it difficult to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't also love good food.

As someone who lives in Europe. I'd just like to say fuck Nintendo of Japan.
  10. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

that was one my partner didn't like because I absolutely annihilated her. I picked up the tactics instantly, while it took her a few goes to figure out what to do, and by that point she was pouting because I'd won every round. Compare that co Mario chase, which is so obvious that it's an absolute blast.
  11. Post your face!

I am in awe of anyone who writes something like that in a second language.
  12. Job Hunting

I agree with Ben. You really don't owe the temp agency anything, they got that when they got money from your pay. Their job is to find someone to do a job. You're the currency they trade in, not their buddy that they helped find employment for. They have no reason to turn you down if you need to join them again. You've proven that you can get a job (with their help) and hold it. You're the ideal currency.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

    Why?
  14. Idle Workouts

It's valid and common, but it's definitely not the best way to do it. I'm currently following a DUP routine which has really helped me progress. Been getting personal bests every other week. Then again, I'm doing more of a powerlifting style training scheme than body building. You could easily alter it to fit your aims though. Essentially Daily Undulating Progression revolves around doing the same exercise multiple times. The idea is that lifting things is as much of a skill as it is to do with raw strength. The more you do something, the better at that particular thing you get. Like if you want to learn guitar, you don't play it once a week, you do it as often as possible. Coupled with the skill part, there's also the fact that protein synthesis peaks 24 hours after performing an exercise, then hits basal levels after 48 hours. So if you train a muscle group once a week, you spend most of that week without any growth. By doing them more than once, you keep protein synthesis high. Then there's the "undulating" part. Simply put, you don't use the same rep/weight range each time you do the exercise. So for example you might have a day where you do 5x5 and then the next time you'd maybe do 12x3 or 1 rep max sets. I like to do the same exercise twice a week, with one day doing a powerlifting 5x5, then the next time a hypertrophy 8x3. I drop the weight a little to do the 8x3 though. Obviously you can't do it every day, but my routine looks something like this: 1) Squat, Bench, Pull ups 2) Deadlift Overhead Press, rows Repeat for a total of 4 times a week (or less if you're struggling, this training is very intense). I also add in a 5th session of auxiliary muscles. So doing curls and calf raises etc. You increase the weights each week, but most importantly you have to deload. Every 4 weeks of this routine, I take a week off. Do lots of light weights or cardio/body weight stuff to recover. DUP is incredibly taxing, and if you're able to do it for more than 5 or 6 weeks at a time, you're not training hard enough or you're on steroids. In 2 4 week blocks of DUP I added 30kg to my squat and 40kg to my deadlift. Feels super good, especially as I'm cutting. If you want to know more look up Mike Zourdos and there's a powerlifter on youtube called Biolayne. They're both pretty smart people.
  15. Eggcorns

This is exactly what I was thinking when trying to work it out. Yeah, I've never heard that before.
  16. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I recently tried out Nintendoland for the first time. It's crazy fun! The Metroid one is great. It controls like Splatoon or metroid prime depending if you're using the pad or the wiimote. The zelda one is pretty good too. The competitive games are the best though. They make fantastic use of the pad and are just pure fun. I think the Mario chase was a stand out though. They'd all be amazing with more than 2 people playing!
  17. Eggcorns

I don't get this. What's it supposed to be?
  18. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I'm making sure to play other games while also playing the witcher. I can get bored of open world stuff fast because I'm constantly getting distracted by small things. Metroid prime 2 is a great accompaniment to the witcher.
  19. Backlog Busters

Why do I feel like I have to gamify my backlog in order to progress through it? I bought these things for enjoyment, not as something to slog through. I'm loving most of the games I'm playing, but it doesn't change the fact I feel backlog pressure. Such a weird thing.
  20. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

So...this may seem like a dumb question, but how do you know if the monster has a detachable tail? Is it just every monster with a tail, as long as you hit it enough?
  21. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Where you stand when you carve a monster...does it affect what materials you get from it?
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I also only got one game (which I absolutely dominated getting double the next persons score, and 7:1 K:D) using the splat jnr. I hope Nintendo now knows what stress is on their servers. I'd hate to play a platoon on Friday and end up only in single player mode.
  23. Do You Have a Preferred Perspective for Games?

First person, unless there's any melee combat.
  24. Destiny

7pm I should be able to make. I'll try!
  25. Destiny

2pm eastern I might be able to make... depending on social obligations and as long as it doesn't overlap with the Splatoon test fire. I'll check later.
