I just bought SotN, but I've not jumped in far, only put 10 minutes before I fired up MGS2 which took over my vita. It's nothing like that with Shovel Knight. The knight's jump lacks any...momentum to the animation. It's more like a weird thing in my head that means I struggle to land where I want because I expect it to be too far/not far enough. I might be explaining that incorrectly because I don't really understand it. Just when I play Rogue Legacy or Spelunky I know where I'm going to land. I know I've fucked up or done it correctly before the character hits the ground (or the spikes). In SK I jump and I never know if I've made it until I actually land (or fall into the bottomless pit). The pogoing with the shovel doesn't help either.

Here's an update to the story: http://kotaku.com/why-some-people-are-calling-fire-emblem-fates-homophobi-1715602826 There's also a link to gaijinhunter's tumblr who I believe is the one localising it (although I don't think they did the original translation that caused the controversy) and their thoughts on it. Reading this it seems a little more innocent than the link you provided suggests, it's still a pretty shitty way of doing it though. Also Patricia has some interesting things to say about it in the comments section.

Yeah, Melting (it's been a while). The bonus XP and the explosion you can do to corpses is just great. You can easily take out those annoying areas where monsters gang up around a corner just by killing one, then proceeding to blow everything up out of line of sight. Steroids was a favourite too. The two guns just means you can tear through things without worrying about getting hit.

Weirdly enough I didn't like Shovel Knight that much. It's just too difficult to be precise thanks to the animations.

Reasonable. I get around 6 to 7 hours a night. Then usually 8 to 9 on weekends. I have forced myself into being a morning person in the past year, which I'm not naturally, but it makes my day more productive. I don't wake up tired, I'm just dead by late afternoon. Which is probably contributing to my overall low tolerance for frustration.

This Is the same reason I hate cooking for myself. An hour to make something delicious and 10 mins clean up isn't worth the 30 seconds it takes for me to eat.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I usually let my girlfriend do that. Putting things together isn't my forte. Is there a beginner friendly website I could read up on this stuff? I'm normally in the "learn by doing" camp, but this is the kind of thing I'd rather have an idea for before I start. Also, I have an alienware M14x laptop that is officially dead and will cost me £300 fix. I know the issues (motherboard something is wrong, but I'm not sure what, hard drive and keyboard connections are shot, also hard drive is completely corrupted) but I was wondering I could cannibalise parts from it. Is that feasible, or would it end up as some crazy Frankenstein shit? The video card in that isn't bad, but it's not top of the range either. -
Fox. No items. Final Destination. I liked to pick and choose. I found I did best with the zombie. It was reliant on getting HP up though. Once I did, I went pretty far. Been a while since I've played, so I assume loads has changed.

What hasn't? Working more, deadlines looming. Eating less, exercising more. Less sex as I'm always tired. Haven't had the time or energy to go out with friends. Weekends feel like they shoot past because I use them to catch up on sleep.

Rogue Legacy might not be a good at what it's trying to emulate, but as someone with limited experience of those things, it felt great. It could be a bad game, but it was really one of the first of that type that I tired and enjoyed. It is good enough at what it does that it pulled me in. I'm sure there are better versions of that, which I haven't found yet though.

The splat fest seemed to be flawed. I was on the pop team in the Eu, and I had around 8 matches where I had 3 players on my team. I don't know whether it was due to poor numbers on that team, or something else. But it kinda sucked.

I just beat Aside from the movement which is the worst part of this game and feels like it's actively trying to make things more difficult, I'm deep in now. Absolutely loving it.

I've never played meat boy, but yes, I'm loving many of the modern ones. Rogue Legacy was a big hit for me. The Binding of Isaac too was another huge time sink. I didn't want to imply nostalgia is the only reason people like them. That's not true at all. I am really learning to appreciate that movement and how tiny details in the animations of background can mean huge things. While in 3D games, things tend to have to be clear for you to notice them (although not always). Weirdly, I can't play 2D Mario. I find the movement hard to control, but the 3D Mario seems much more precise to me.

Don't worry, it wasn't taken as condecending. I'm on the edge of being too young, many of my friends had a SNES or a Saturn?, but I wasn't allowed to have any sort of games console until I was deemed old enough, which meant my first was the N64. I have zero nostalgia for 2D games, and actively avoided them until recently. I don't have those rose tinted specs when playing 2D stuff, which means I can judge them based on merits rather than because they remind me of being a kid. I entered gaming with OoT, Golden Eye, Mario 64 (which I still need to finish) and Rogue Squadron. All of which were incredible entries into 3D gaming. Made it hard for me to care about 2D after forming my initial gaming opinions with those. Well except Pokemon, but that was an exception to the rule.

Super Metroid has given me an appreciation for 2d games that I never had before. I'm now trying Stider on ps4 again, and actually enjoying it. I don't know what it is about Metroid games, but they completely rewired my head to go from 2D is ancient to understanding what makes a 2D game good. Last time I played I thought it was boring and tedious to navigate the map. Now it feels interesting to explore and find power ups. Yeah the combat is a little bland, but everything else is pretty good!

I like the tony pail and shaved head one. It actually suits the character. How many people are doing all the side quests and all the witcher contracts? I feel like maybe I'll burn myself out because I'm doing everything. I can't be bothered with the question marks though. I might visit one on the way to something, but I sure as hell don't go out of my way for them.

Really the only place I didn't like was the lava area with the huge monsters around. Everywhere else is great, and they all have their individual charms, but Sens and Anor Londo stand out for me. I just loved the grandure of Anor Londo, the mechanisms and obviously the greatest boss in Dark Souls.
-
It is amazing. When I think about Dark Souls two places pop into my head. Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo are just glorious places.

I found that my deaths were inevitably from running out of stamina, so if you're not struggling with that, then there's no need to fill up there. Health was a nice bonus, but I agree, generally if you get hit, you're going to die anyway. I just liked to have enough that I could take 2 hits without dying. Gave me some wiggle room to make a couple of mistakes. Sen's Fortress is the worst part of Dark Souls for me. There's one section that I just could not fucking do.

I've always loathed the movesets of the Falchion and Rapier. Just didn't sit well with me, while Uchigatana carried me all the way from undead burg to the end of the game. It just felt great to use. My second run was using Zwiehander which I loved too, but it was an entirely different play style. Strength weapons are the best.
-
It's different. You die. A lot. Well...I do. To get the tower moving, you must be on top of it, so you're the prime target for everyone as soon as it starts moving. It's a change of pace, because you get used to having a K:D of 2 or more, then suddenly you're dying 10+ times in a game.

IT KEEPS GOING AFTER THE THRONE?! Omg that's it. When is this game going to leave early access? I'm desperate to play again.

I think once you start to upgrade, you want to go with the best scaling stat. Magic uchi kind of makes the sword pointless because it goes from one of the best Dex scaling weapons to a poor dex and int scaling weapon. Going another route means you have higher magic scaling, but it completely abolishes the Dex. Really, the best way to do it (I think), is get the minimum stat required to wield something, then pump the best scaling stat as high as you can. There are some weapons that scale well with str/dex but I don't think dex/int. Unless of course you want to use magic and a high scaling Dex weapon, but that will really make your other important stats - Vit and End suffer. For a first run it's probably best to have a lot of Vit and End. Edit: That's a rambling answer, if it's not clear say so.
