I agree with twig. However I don't find FC2 to be video gamey compared to most shooters. All the things you say you dislike - driving, not seeing enemies in the jungle and being harassed make me feel like it's so not gamey. The progression you get out of FC2 isn't new powerful guns or special moves, it's just learning how to live longer in the environment. I found that at first I was dying a lot, then after letting myself get immersed and less frustrated I would act more like a person. I'd stop to check my map so I wouldn't smash into a tree, I'd scout out an area to see who was the biggest threat. I'd hide and try to flank enemies. I'd not reload constantly, and I'd switch to my side arm. I guess the narrative isn't what I liked about FC2 so it's not a big deal I don't come across other people. It's the emergent narrative that makes the immersion so easy and important for me.

At first glance I agreed with you, and thought how silly it is to try and enjoy something that doesn't click immediately. Then I realised how I did a similar thing with Dark Souls. I didn't quite get it, then I decided to give it another try since it's so well recieved. However, I didn't push on while hating it, I just played it again and it clicked, almost immediately. It's worth trying games you think you dislike because you might have just missed something. DS has gone from something I thought was over-rated and irritating to one of my favourite games ever. Definitely one of the few single player games I've spent more than 40 hours playing (currently nearer 100) and not gotten bored.

I favour the M&K personally too, but when my set up depends on it, a controller isn't a bad replacement, it's actually a rather good one. I too boosted the sensitivity up, put delayed sprint on an made sure that circle (B ) was kick.

I really liked FC3, it had some weird stuff...the story was terrible, the crafting felt added on for the sake of it, also enemies disappearing once you clear out a base made the world feel empty, but it still had that amazing random little events that told a story each time. That's what I love about the FC games, and they do it well. I'll definitely be grabbing FC4. I'm not sure I can believe the satirical angle of the story. It felt too much like text book AAA power fantasy story for me. Sounds like people are trying to rationalise a shit story in a decent game.

It's really not well-liked. At all in fact. Most people have the same problems as you have highlighted, but it's not a matter of playing it differently, it's just a matter of taste. It's sort of the opposite of most shooters, focusing on taking away power from the player and making you feel more like a grunt than a super soldier. Of course you're still Rambo but you're way less of a Rambo than most shooters. I've noticed that people who like shooters I'm general hate FC2, but those who aren't that into shooters tend to like it. Many of the parts you said you loathe are exactly why I like it. I also don't play FC2 for short bursts, I like to Immerse myself into the world and see all the stupid crazy shit that happens. The quests are basically excuses to travel for me. Don't worry about not liking it, it's certainly not for everyone, and doesn't mean you have poor taste. By the sounds of it you're playing it "right" but just not liking the core of the game.

I assume it was a miracle. It was pretty fast. I upped the zwiehander to +4 and slapped some pine resin on it. The gargoyles were a joke. The first one took 1 R2 and 2 R1s, the second just took 2 R1s. Although I was two handing it when I used to R1 attacks since I felt safe. This sword is pretty fun to use. It's a totally different play style compared to my dex build which was very conservative. I can afford to just go all out because the boss battles are over so fast. I don't regret going dex first time around, it meant I had to actually learn the fights. I had to block and roll at the correct times, but with this sword I feel like I could have lucked my way through the bosses. However I think I'll prefer the tanky (well, will be eventually) super hard hitter character. The sad thing is, I would never have been able to use this build correctly without playing through once. It's incredibly dependent on Havel's ring. The slow roll is just pointless!

To be honest I don't mind twinks in DS. The only thing that made me curious is that he had regenerating HP. Is that a spell or a ring?

I tried out a new character with a str build last night. Started as deprived because I didn't know what other stats I might want. Sprinted and grabbed the zwiehander to kick things off. It's hard to use! However, after dying on the first boss once (as I was using the sword with two hands and not blocking) I threw some pine resin on it and I only had to dodge the deamon once. One R2 hit, followed by a dodge and two R1 hits and I'd killed him. I can understand why people love these powerful weapons. They just eat through health bars. I also got invaded! I was just in the undead parish and a guy wearing all of smogh's armour and using his hammer came to say hi. I managed to get off 3 backstabs with the zwiehander but it barely took his HP down. Then a shitty zombie I had accidently aggro end earlier hit me, I was staggered and got hit by the giant hammer before I knew what was happening. The level parity seemed massively off, but I suppose if no one is playing then it doesn't matter! One last thing, the zwiehander has pretty poor stat scaling, and most bosses are vulnerable to either fire or lightning but also have resistances. Which is better to use? Or would it be a good idea to have two weapons and not try to make one a jack of all trades like I did with uchigatana?

How do most people in here play? I've been using M&K constantly, but last night I tried out controller. It was actually really good. Normally it takes me a couple of games to get back into the swing of things but the controller plus smart pistol had me MVP 3 games in a row. I even managed to get some kills while my girlfriend was messing with me, and that'd never happen using M&K.

From what I recall about any PvP game is that people will blame anything or anyone for any reason except themselves. Playing wow PvP I had some major personal growth, where I would analyse my contribution to the battleground or arena match and work out how I could have done better. Even if one of my team mates was playing poorly I'd work out how I could have made it easier for them. Make me a better player, and is a good attitude to have in life. I rarely used voice chat outside of groups of friends. When I did it was to bark out basic orders like "healer at the back" or "focus Mage." People really appreciated short sharp orders rather than chit chat.

Luckily I found a guild of nice people who took me in as a complete noob, (although it was because I had honed my DPS skill to be in a similar range as their top player) and I had a blast learning fights and picking up PvP. That said, I still believe today that the collective MMO community is possibly the worst in games.
-
That's happened to me in a similar way. I heard grunts shouting "Hostile pilot spotted." I checked my map and didn't see any blips but I turned a corner and saw him running up a wall. A few rounds of the carbine sorted him out. The grunt barks are really useful!

I agree with Clyde, I picked up and felt ok playing Titanfall after not playing a shooter for years. However I tried BF3 a month after it came out and felt terrible. I would die within 30 seconds of spawning and rarely even see another player. I gave up after a few tries because it was so frustrating. Fighting games are something that I've felt inclusion is difficult, mainly because they're complex, and if you don't know the basics, it's almost impossible to learn them. Similar to LOMAs. I picked up DOTA2, but being told I need to put 100+ hours into a game to be average is a huge wall to inclusion. I barely have time to play the games I love. Spending 100+ hours to see if I'll eventually like a game is stupid. Finally, MMOs. This is the community aspect, when I was first learning, not having the necessary experience meant I wouldn't be taken on raids. I could understand if I was a tank or healer, but being a dps in a 25 man raid, did it matter if I had to learn each fight? Most of the fights weren't hard for dps, pick your target, beat the shit out of it. Also being told by people things along the lines of "You don't know? Well you're just a scrub, so why should I tell you?" made me realise how incredibly childish the community is. I ended up getting quite high into WoW pvp, and I made sure I never had that poisonous attitude. If someone asked how I got something, or asked how I stunlocked them to death, I would reply with tips. Getting more people interested in a game is a good thing.

I'd make a few changes. Nintendo: Please Ubisoft: Assassin Dogs EA: Effect

Yeah, my build was very much...me. I wasn't much of a tank, but I could do anything I wanted if I shifted equipment around a little. Tank, fast rolls, double-handed DPS machine. I'd quite like to specialise my build a little and try a Str build using big fuck-off axes and swords. I just have so many games in my back log that I need to (and really want to!) finish that spending another 40+ hours in Dark Souls seems like a bad idea...but I keep turning the game on anyway, wanting to play.

I'd really like to get into the pvp or go put my summon stone around bosses, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do that ever with ds1. Can't afford 2 yet though ): My plan was to try a completely different build, go pick up some really str dependent weapons and maybe some faith skills and see if I like it. I got to FLS and I was like: meh, I'll do it later. And switched over to SR4. To be fair my girlfriend was bugging me at the time, and it's hard to et into DS when someone is speaking to you constantly.
-
I tried to play again last night but I don't seem to have the drive that most others do to start a NG I'm a different spec. Maybe it's just too soon ): but I feel like I'm just repeating myself.

Me too, I put in 30 hours in offline mode, only for steam to overwrite my saves when I finally connected to the internet a couple of weeks later. Put me right off playing it again, but I really want to finish it.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

Would using multiple weapons be viable for PvP and PvE? Or would it be better to dip my toe into magic?- 1284 replies

I might give a str build a go. I'm sure you can still poke bosses, and I might try it out in DS1 before hand. I'd like to make my attempt in 2 more pvp focused as that was something I missed. Ranged stuff just sounds incredibly OP to me, but I'm sure it comes at at sacrifice.- 1284 replies

Wow, on topic...sort of. If you live in the UK http://direct.asda.com/Polaroid-P50LED14---50%22-LED-backlit-LCD-TV/000527630,default,pd.html?awc=2925_1400062860_f2baa97f9ecbdeb514bf230de079881e&cmpid=afc-_-geor-_-awin-_-95750-_-generic&cm_mmc=geor-aff-_-awin-_-Save%20the%20Student-_-95750 A great tv for under £300. Not the best brand, but still quite reliable. I'm seriously considering picking one up this weekend.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Griddlelol replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I'm curious. How viable is a DEX build in DS2? I really liked my build in 1, but I've heard that str or int are the only good ways to go. Is that just Internet people exaggerating, or do DEX builds have no damage output anymore compare to str or mages? On the same note, how important is magic? I refuse to use it. Suffer not the witch to live etc. etc. I prefer to stick with the lowly knight battling to overcome daemons theme. Rather than just another day in the life of a powerful magician.- 1284 replies

I really like the look of this game, but I just don't back Kickstarters. Funnily enough, the reason I never do is up on the Kickstarter page referring to a tshirt: Small changes? What changes? How small is small? I'm so boring...but I'll almost certainly be buying this when it's out on Steam.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

They made a big deal about status effects working on bosses. You can make them bleed/poison etc. I assumed that given all the possible damage increases with a stun, it'd work, since the stun is completely pointless against normal non-boss enemies - you can kill them in one or two turns. Plus, why the hell shouldn't they work on bosses? It's lazy design to put something in the game that only works in situation X because it wouldn't be fair in situation Y. In a giant ever changing MMO I can sort of forgive it. PvP and PvE are two fundamentally different things, but in a relatively short single player only game it's inexcusable. They don't even bother to come up with a narrative reason, I'm trying to stun another kid, not a giant fuck off dragon. Personally, I'd say get it if you like South Park. I got a few chuckles out of it, but I regret not waiting for it to be on sale.
