  1. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I swear I've done the "no damage for two floors" one with Azazel several times, but it has not unlocked. Perhaps it's because I'm picking up soul hearts along the way? Hmmm. Had a really fun, interesting run (sadly, still ended in defeat) with Azazel just now. Rerolled my stuff on a dice room showing a one, and ended up with a weird stationary vorted when I fired, out of which my brimshot would come. If enemies went into the swirl, they would take a lot of damage, and the shot itself was quite damaging. I then later got a magnetic tears pickup, so the vortex was now sucking enemies into itself. Made Boss Rush a piece of cake. However, there are several enemies in the womb that are immunte to it, like the eyes and the rolling brain thingies, and they chipped away at me. Was good tho. Got two unlocks, as well. Edit: Yeah, for Eve it quite clearly says do not pick up hearts for two levels. My brain don't work quite right.
  2. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Been playing this for 15 hours now, and still find that about 50% of my runs end in a slow, drudging defeat due to not finding any damage up items. Will I unlock more of these, eventually? The only decent ones I can think of that I've used so far are Brimstone and Polyphemus.

Shadow Warrior is great. So much better than the original, "classic" title (I enjoyed it as a kid, but come ON). All of the weapons feel brilliant so far, except for the demon heart because I always forget to switch to it during a hectic fight. Wish there was a quick-use for that one. The katana is nuts, carving demons up is brilliant fun. The short range dash is the icing on the cake, only I wish I could use it in the air! If I could use it in the air this would probably be one of my favourite FPS games. As it is, it's merely very good.
  4. General Video Game Deals Thread

I bought MGR: Revengeance in the sale (but haven't installed it yet, and probably won't for another year), and also Kingdoms of Amalur, which is fast and fun but quite shallow and easy. My gf got me Isaac, The Stanley Parable and Necrodancer. Spoiled rotten. Oh, also I got Shadow Warrior for a pittance, and wish I'd paid more for it. It's dead good.
  5. Spelunky. The answer is obviously Spelunky. (disclaimer: I haven't played all the games)
  6. Euro Truck Simulator 2

Hahaha! So, is it just me or is it more efficient in terms of earnings to just go as fast as possible, eat up any fines, and just get more jobs done than it is to drive sensibly and complete fewer jobs? I have done this and it's much less satisfying than playing the game properly, to be honest, but if you're purely interested in the money...
  7. No Man's Sky

I'm crossing my fingers so hard that this game turns out to be incredible. Although I'm naturally averse to anything procedurally generated, the level of tech on display here is truly something to behold. I hope these planets feel a bit "lived in" and have a bit of history to them. Would also love to see some crazy environmental hazards!
  8. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

And I'm going to play it alllll over again. A few quick observations from eyes grown accustomed to Dark Souls 2: * The HUD is HUGE. It feels more...arcadey? I kinda like it * I will never grow tired of kicking and dragging corpses about the place * That 30fps defo feels sluggish right now. I'll get used to it * Climbing quickly up ladders is awesome, and I miss it
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I played a bit of Terraria, about 50 hours or so I think, and it's a decent game. However, the combat and platforming, both of which you do loads of, are both pretty weak. I don't know if they ever sorted it, but if there was a little "staircase" arrangement of bricks, you couldn't just walk into them and hop up automatically, but had to keep on jumping again and again. Maddening. Now I come to think about it, I may have played so much of it because I was addicted to the overworld tune.
  10. Risk of Rain

I hadn't realised that Risk of Rain has a co-op mode! Still, I doubt my gf will be interested. Based on watching me play, she thinks it's a bit boring. (I can appreciate that viewpoint) But any complaints I have about it are blown away by the awesome feeling of transforming from a weakling into a destructive force of nature. A couple of days ago I played one run for three hours, refusing to teleport to the boss and just endlessly completing stages. Must've been doing way more than 100k damage per second by the end of it. I should try out some classes other than Commando. Feel like I've "mastered" that one Edit: just remembered the MUSIC is so good. So flippin' good.
  11. Recently completed video games

Started and finished Max Payne 3 in a little over 8 hours. That's a good running time, really; any longer and it would overstay its welcome. But, I enjoyed it, for the shooting gallery that it is. Excellent music! Glad I only paid a few pounds for it, mind you.
  12. They should port Demon's Souls! Even if they completely half-arsed it, they'd sell bucketloads.
  13. Well, I'm glad I haven't bought the DLC yet. It seems I've completely run out of steam on NG+ with my first character, who I'd specced into a bit of a jack-of-all-trades only to rely almost exclusively on the same mace I picked up for a few pennies at the start of the game. I think I got a bit too comfortable with him in PvE (still went all to pieces in PvP though) So, decided to play around by making a witch specced mainly into magic, with almost no armour but a quick roll and quick casting speed. She was okay, but it was a very slow start to the game, and a lot of the time I was legging it away from enemies, having run out of spells to cast. She's currently perched in the entrance hall of Drangleic castle, but fighting from range is a bit tedious for me and I don't really have any spells that are "fun" yet, just lost of variants on magic bolt. I felt like I needed some light relief, so I decided to make a strength character, thinking it'd be both easy and empowering to simply bonk enemies over the head with a big stick and watch them fall. But, again, at the start of the game that really wasn't happening. Didn't seem like I could stagger anyone effectively, I couldn't even swing the big club yet, and both my stamina and roll were awful. That guy has picked up speed like a landslide though, and I've now got the damage output and poise that I can just wade in, tanking hits and laying waste to anyone nearby. I *love* that I can redirect overhead swings with this club!
  14. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Man, Deus Ex is the best. Still. Unrelated to anything else: DA-O is a hard game, even on easy mode. Room full of thugs and blood-mages. Where's the "very easy mode" option?
  15. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

Aye, I got stalled on it a couple of times in the past because I didn't think the combat was much cop. Well, I mean, I'm sure it's perfectly serviceable, but I didn't have the patience to micromanage skills and that. Anyway, it's on easy this time around and things are going more smoothly.
  16. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

When I felt the (delayed) hype train for Inquisition rumbling through, I thought it was about time I played DA:O, as well. Let me know how you get on with it. I'm about 10 hours in and having quite a good time so far. It's scratching a "generic fantasy" itch that I didn't know I had
  17. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I am once again attempting to play DA:O, having given up on it no less than *three* times in the past. Wish my party moved with me when I press W to move around...
  18. Alien Isolation - The nightmare of Milky Joe

I just got there now. I'm dreading it, but not for the right reasons The checkpointing in this game sucks. That is, if it even exists at all. I got past a really fraught section of the game, pulse pounding, by the skin of my teeth. Whack the button to transfer to a new area via an elevator, leaving android and alien behind me, keeping each other company. Then, I get murdered by the alien almost immediately after stepping out of it at the other end. First of all, that irks me, because it seems like it basically teleported to a position ahead of me. Secondly, there was no checkpoint when I changed location, so I have to sit through a load just to find out that I'm back in the previous area at the save, all enemies restored, and I've got to run the gauntlet again.
  19. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

The board game level is probably my favourite. I think the only levels that I actually dislike are the disco themed level, in the mind of one of the camp teachers, and the one with the stage and changing backdrops.
  20. whatcha been playing?

Trying to complete Legend of Grimrock, which I've had for a long time but never really spent any proper time with. Spent a bit of time with Tower of Guns yesterday and today, as I got it in a bundle. It's not bad, like Binding of Isaac meets Quake. It controls well, feels "tight" to play, but definitely lacks variety and RNG can make or break a game for you, depending on if you get decent items or not (though a skilled player will still be able to advance, just without having much fun). Looks decent too; I'm getting a bit of a Borderlands vibe from it. Also playing Crimzon Clover which is just incredibly good. It's a bullet hell type schmup, very tough in the arcade mode, but helpfully comes with a Novice mode to ease you into it. One of those games where you just get into the zone, and seem to see beyond what's happening on screen. My high score is utterly pitiful, but I'm having a blast learning the patterns of enemies and bullets and what have you

I've got a copy of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs to give away. First person to send me a DM can have it (but please, only if you actually intend to play it)
  22. What are the best GTA clones?

Delighted to see so many people recommending SR3 and Just Cause 2. Personally, I'd strongly recommend playing JC2 on easy mode. The reason I say this is that enemies respawn infinitely, but on easy mode they won't do as much damage. This is great, because you get the feeling of being really powerful, and when you tire of laying waste and want to bug out of a fight you will likely be able to. Some of the best moments come from swooping away, mocking the innumerable (but pitiful) soldiers, feeling like a badass. Getting killed is just not much fun at all. Also, get a mod which lets you obtain any item you like, any time you want. It seems silly that you have to play through story missions - most of which are pretty forgettable - to unlock things.
  23. Decided to forge ahead tonight with my wimpy, namby-panby, knock-me-down-with-a-feather mage. Miraculously, I managed to kill both bosses in the Iron Keep on my first attempt, and my general flimsiness meant that even trash enemies were giving me a tough time, making for a more engaging experience overall. Quick Q: Will I, at some point, be able to get a stave or chime that can cast both spells and miracles? 'Cos that would be sweet. Also, what is a good melee weapon to fall back on? My Str and Dex attributes are pitiful, as you might expect, but I have got just enough to wield a mace, which is a weapon I'm very comfortable with. Anything better?
  24. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Booty! It's more of a catch-all "sexualisation" term, I think Also, funnier to say.
  25. General Video Game Deals Thread

Haha, just thinking that. It was the PC port I was talking about, and crashing bugs are a deal breaker. Still, might watch a Let's Play.
