  1. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

No, you still have to register friends with your friend code. All the NNID thing did was link store accounts, I think. I'll find mine tonight and post it. Edit: the other person has to add your friend code in order for you to see them. So either they don't love you or their not online

  3. anime

Yeah, it's another case of the manga not being finished, and I guess it wasn't popular enough to warrant a second season. Which is a real shame. You should really check out the manga, because it turns from a kinda quirky love story to a You should check Girl got game. It's as awful as it sounds.
  4. The Fanart Collective

That's the best. I especially like eva 1's shoes. can you name them all?
  5. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

I am shocked that you do not look exactly like your avatar pic Mington. I don't know what to believe now. My world is in disarray.
  6. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Yeah, I got a demo code too. I'm guessing it's a EU thing? It was only one email. Did you get 4 emails then Yasawas?
  7. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

OK GO's new album is on soundcloud, and it's pretty good: https://soundcloud.com/okgo/sets/hungry-ghosts Has the same sound as their previous album, which I really digged. The music video is awesome too:
  8. Good News Everyone

This cheers me up. Hopefully it'll do the same for you (turn on subtitles for english translation)

  10. Fantasy Life (3DS)

Yeah, I've had this game for about a month or so I guess. It's good. I've sunk about 30 hours into it. I started off as a Mercenary and then worked my way through all the support lives, now working through all the fighting lives (paladin, hunter, magician). Each different life has a different starting quest, which you have to do when you first change to that life. It requires you to meet your life master, and take a first quest, which is formulaic, but you meet your rival/friend of that life, and it's pretty sweet and funny. You can also choose to skip the initial quest if you want, which is nice if you don't care about them. by far the weakest life so far is the Angler. Unlike the other gathering classes, it feels purely random as to what fish you'll pull up, and there's no way of knowing what size of fish you'll get either, as well as the type. The only exception to this is the boss fishes, which are only available in one location, and are huge. Some starting tips: Start off with a fighting life first, as as soon as you've done the initial life mission, you're forced to do a mission which involves fighting, and you can't change life mid mission, making it harder to complete. The game alternates between mission mode and free mode. When you are in mission mode, you can't change life until you have finished that mission, and rest in your bed. Free mode is when it says 'Free to roam round riviera' or something like that. Each life has achievements to level up that life, however, gathering lives (miner, woodcutter, angler) do not require you to be in that class to complete the missions, so change to those lives ASAP so you can level them up with the other lives. In the heavily tutorialised intro missions, it never tells you explicitly to change lives. Don't be a mug like I was and waited 10 hours into the game to change your life, otherwise you'd get bored fast. Your face and hair can be changed eventually.
  11. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I actually forgot about metal rising. Although I don't remember the parry system having the added witch time. Likewise, I'm pretty sure that 101 had parry assigned to a button (which is slightly different than bayonetta/mgr). Either way you are correct, but bayonetta did it first. (Which is a moot point, but still.) Also mgr didn't have the weapon system like bayonetta did.
  12. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I actually disagree with you there. Whilst there are games that are similar in that they are 3rd person beat 'em ups, I don't feel that there's anything quite like Bayonetta. It might not be apparent in the first playthrough on normal, as the real beauty and robustness of the fighting system really comes out when the game is set to infinite climax. On infinite climax mode, you cannot activate witch time by dodging. This means that the only way to activate witch time is by parrying. This completely changes how you play the game, as you now have to take huge risks to fight off the most simple enemies. You might be able to survive a couple of levels without parrying, but about three or four levels in, there is an enemy that's covered in fire. By this time, you know that the only way to hurt enemies on fire is to attack them in witch time, so you have to learn how to parry. After that, you start to read the enemies tells as they attack, and become fluent in parrying enemies, and it feels awesome... Until about halfway in, as the enemies change their attack patterns and messes up everything. again. Also, the way you can equip different things on your feet and hands is a really nice system. Swapping between the two sets of hand/feet combos on the fly, depending on the enemies is a really sweet system that works so perfectly, and I can't think of any other brawler that does something like that. I'm super excited for Bayonetta 2. The demo was superb, and was exactly what I was hoping from the sequel of Bayonetta. I was a tad skeptical about the flying parts, but it seems like my worries were baseless.
  13. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

True. but then I'll have to wait for it to install tomorrow!
  14. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Ah man it arrived when I got back home! 4 DVD's of useless as I typed the product code into steam and activated it. It seriously felt like a huge waste. But I can't complain as I got it for like £23. It's also 50GB big! One cool thing about the game box is that it has a reversible cover that has a lovely grindhouse-esq cover. It looks sweet. (am I doing these emoticons right guys?)
  15. Post your face!

Been meaning to post my face for a while. This is a very mature picture using the magic of panoramic view of my friends camera in a national park in Japan. I'm a catch.
  16. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Mine was also dispatched on Friday. I know next to nothing about this game apart from the guy who did RE4 did it. and there's an unkillable fella with a safe for a face. My expectations aren't high, but I'm hoping it'll be good. Guess we'll wait and see.
  17. anime

There are many more reasons than that to watch Nozaki-kun, the show is ace. Also I'm not sure what stipulates 'romance subplots', because the male lead is definitely involved in a romance plot, even if he is unaware of it. Edit: Ugh I just realised I wrote 'stipulates', which makes me sound like an ass. Sorry, I've been having arguments with landlords all weekend.
  18. anime

Oh that riddle. Ok yeah I knowthat one, I just forgot it was in the anime. I've watched an episode of Fumuffou! and it was pretty funny. I haven't watched FMP. I also discovered that Amagi Brilliant Park has three manga adaptations, a normal manga adaptation, a 4-panel manga, and an online 'anime' manga. why?!?!?! I also checked out Parasyte -the maxim-, which is about a guy who gets an alien (possibly a parasyte?) imbedded into his arm, which then talks to him and stuff happens. I don't really want to spoil it for you, because it has some pretty original ideas in there, and I liked it a lot. It was sufficiently creepy, especially with the creepy animation of the alien hand transforming and mutating. It also didn't do the insufferable thing of wasting an episode with him being confused. It went along at a reasonable pace. The original manga was run in '98. It's weird that a manga series that old has only now gotten an anime (and 2 live action films). Finally shirobako was also good, if not the weakest of what I've watched so far. It's about 5? 4? girls who are in the anime industry. I was expecting it to be totally moe fan service but it wasn't at all (ok, it was a bit, but not to the degree of a KyoAni anime). It was just an interesting, if not a tad unrealistic, look into how anime is created. The car chase was a particular highlight, as it was stupid. It was also animated superbly.
  19. anime

Yeah, I watched all of Zankyou no Terror, feeling the same way. Most of your gripes are explained in the plot though. I hadn't heard of the first riddle though, so I'm guessing it's not that common. Also I really disliked the opening and ending song. I skipped them every time. Anyways, I watched Amagi Brilliant Park. It's about a guy who's asked to be the manager of a run-down theme park where the people in it are magical, and they have to get 250,000 people to come to the park in the next 3 months or it closed down, which then means that everyone dies - Including love interest 1 and 2! It's actually pretty good, and I enjoyed it a lot. Animation is as good as you'd expect from Kyoto animation, and the main protagonist is an understandable ass, if that makes sense. And it's written by the same guy who did Full Metal Panic, who's presumably quite good. It's also weird again that this title hasn't been picked up by either Funimation or Crunchyroll, making it the second big title that's gone unofficially translated this season. I wonder if Netflix got this title too?
  20. Nintendo 3DS

I believe the official title in the game is 'woodcutter'. But we all know that it's a lumberjack really. Bad news I'm afraid, it looks like rune factory will never be released in the EU as the publisher fell through. Hopefully someone else will pick it up, but it's doubtful. :/
  21. Nintendo 3DS

The other thing about Warrior's Way is that it's capped at 9,999,999 soldiers, which is lame. Bravely Default is ace, as well as Etrian Odyssey, but Project X Zone sucked. It's great for the first 5 hours or so, when they slowly drip feed you characters, but the story drags, and the fighting gets repetitive and boring, and you just sorta switch off. I didn't finish it, for shame. Also you're forgetting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. It's one of those games you either love or hate, but if you love it, you'll be suckered in for hours. Finally, Fantasy Life is flippin' brilliant. It's an Action RPG where you can change lives to do different things, ranging from fighting classes (mercenaries, paladins, wizaaaaard) to support classes (cook, miner, lumberjack). It sounds really grindy, but it's presented really nicely and it's really addictive. Give it a go. Ask and ye shall recieve:
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

I liked misfits, but don't watch it past the 2nd season. In other news, Myst is going to have a TV show. Whut. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/10/myst-brings-mystery-to-the-small-screen-in-upcomin.html I guess it could work? Myst isn't really about the characters, just the world (from what I remember of the first game, which is the only one I played). Still, this and Tetris: The movie announced in the same week? Weird. EDIT: Oh dear. Well this is going to end horribly.
  23. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

So it's been announced that Naruto is ending in 5 chapters, which is a real shock. I was expecting Bleach to end first out of the big three, yet here we are. Honestly I'm glad it's ending. The latest battle/war was both rubbish and climatic. And Anyone else still reading it?
  24. anime

As for the black bars, the most ridiculous one was this for me: Japans censorship laws are weird. I hated it in Tokyo Ghoul as well. Part of me wonders if they over-censor it to sell more Blu-rays. It makes sense for fan-service anime, but for gore? I'm not so sure. Apparently they are going to air the uncensored version of Terraformar's first ep in some con in america somewhere, which is cool. Watched The Seven Deadly Sins the other night. It was exactly what I hoped it'd be. What's weirder about that show is that neither Crunchyroll nor Funimation have picked up the license for this show. Rumours are that Netflix, of all companies, has got the license and will be streaming it six months later. Which is fucking ridiculous. This means is that to watch it now, you have to revert to watching fan subs, of which there is only one. And it's really bad. This is something that I haven't done in ages, as both funi and CR seem to own the licences to all the anime in a season that I'm interested in, at least. The fact that the sub of a (presumably) really popular anime is interesting, as it makes me wonder if the fan subbing community has died down considerably over the last year or two. Here's hoping that CR gets the license to it mid-season somehow, just like they did with Love Lab.
