  1. Splatoon is Ink-redible

For what it's worth, the best extra minigame is the Squid Racing minigame. I was really excited for the squid beats, but it feels like the actual game part was just an after-thought with the music. there's no fail state, so you just play endlessley. Squid Jump is fun, but requires a lot of skill to master, and can be too fiddly at times, and the game can feel too imprecicse for me to wholly enjoy, but it feels like there's some real depth behind it, that I've yet to understand. Finally, the school outfit for the girl is darn cute, and the best reason to get the girl amiibo.

The recording is yet to be decided, but hopefully sooner rather than later! I'm sure we'll put up some doodle poll when the time comes. Your opinions don't have to be important at all, but they're all welcome!
  3. Splatoon is Ink-redible

As much as I love this game, lag and people dropping out are real killers to the enjoyment of it all. I've had a spat of great matches, only to be ruined by people who have the most atrocious lag. And I guess they know it too, because they always choose rollers, and it always looks like they're rolling through your ink with no ink trail, and they always kill you after you've shot them a bunch, when they're miles away, and then they inexplicably die (usually because they've just recieved my damage I delt them) just after I do. It's bullshit. Also a guy dropping out is like 1/4 of your firepower gone, and it's a sure-sign of you losing that match. Do it. I have one, and it's insane how much better the battery life is. So much so I'm baffled as to why they haven't included it as the default out-of-the-box battery.

You can also buy a larger battery for like £20 which gives the pad silly battery life. Like 10 hours+. Definitely worth investing in.
  5. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

What makes the Game lorry theft even more hilarious is that in england, the squid amiibo was only available in the special edition. Every special edition that GAME had was in that lorry that was stolen. Luckily I got my copy from the Nintendo store! On the subject of the inkling amiibo's, they are definitely the most impressive amiibo yet. The design is really nice, with a staggering amount of detail, and whilst the paint job was a bit sloppy on the feet for me, it was still very well done. Just as little figurines, these are impressive amiibo's! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can give those crystal shell things to Spyke and that increases your item's star level. I have no idea how to get those crystal shell things yet though. That's good to hear! I searched long and hard, but there was none to be found!
  6. Remember the N64 Rare heyday? Before they got bought by Microsoft and then banished to make avatars that nobody liked or wanted? I do. My fondest gaming moments as a kid revolved around Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and Jet Force Gemini. Now a bunch of old hats from Rare have come together to create Playtonic games, who have sucessfully kickstarted their new game, Yooka-Laylee (geddit?), and boy does it look a delight. Honestly, this gif makes me more excited than it really should: Is it just me, or does it ooze the Rare magic that has been missing all these years?
  7. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

Teg, I'm going into town tomorrow. If I find one I'll pick it up for you. Is it just the girl one you want? Would you be interested in the boy if they have that too? No guarantee I'll find one though!

I've been thinking about this, but I'm really glad they didn't put in voice chat. The games are too short to put in any form of coordination, and the two options on the d pad are really all you need. Also the net code runs a lot smoother without the added voice chat, I think. I really love this game. Even though I'm losing more than I'm winning, the levels have insane details and in jokes smothered all over them. I love the way the graffiti is actually miiverse posts. Also, a little easter Egg my gf discovered: in the plaza, go to the place where cala and mari are. Zoom into where they're sitting and wait. Cala and mari are awesome btw. I still haven't got bored of their news flashes.

One more thing: It takes a bit long for the real drama to start. I think the first tear-jerker for me was around episode 10 ish? Was worth the wait though. I'm really glad you enjoyed this! I also felt like my description of the idol industry was crappy and rushed, and my rant (although I haven't got to it yet) was crap and made me sound like an awful person. I shall explain it better when I get home (I'm at work atm). A super quick summary is: Simon Cowell's pop-making machine, but gone completely invisible as to it's process and everyone's fine with it. Examples are AKB48 and Jhonny's bands like Arashi and Kiss my ft 2. (side note: Japanese bands have the worst names, and they're always hilarious.)

Good Luck Tegan! Here's hoping you Te-gain your dream job! Also to add to the list: Minna no Nihongo and www.jisho.org.
  12. Nintendo Network ID Exchange Thread

I'm pretty sure my NNID Is N1njaSquirrel. I shall check when I get back home, and add all of y'all! Sadly I'm really busy this weekend, so I won't be able to do MK this week! I'll probably be playing a fuck ton of Splatoon tonight/This weekend!
  13. Ouran Boast Club - Planning an Anime Podcast

Yes! Watch it! Watch Clannad first, then the alt story with tomoyo (the real girl he should have got with. A real tear-jerker this episode was), and the After Story. The major bugaboos that people who I know who have given it a go are: It's from a Key Studio light novel game, which has characteristically very huge eyes and small mouths. More so than most anime, which put a lot of my friends off. Also expect your usual light novel affair tropes, like girls running with toast in their mouths. If you can get past those minor gripes, you'll enjoy it greatly.

So surprisingly I played a fucking load of Splatoon last night. It's good. Fucking good. Even without team speak, it's good. There is a real joy-du-vivre that all Nintendo games have, and this one is no exception. The combat is fast and frenetic, and a lot of fun. I played a lot as the roller, and it's a tad too easy to play as it. It's upsides far outweigh it's downsides. to be honest, I got a bit bored of using it. Luckily I can just switch it up at will though, as every weapon has a completely different playstyle. I'm going to use the charger next. The only bad point for me so far is the use of amiibo's. You can only use them after playing the single player content (which is really silly and good fun), and all the 'challenges' amount to is re-playing the levels, but instead of the splattergun, use a different weapon, like the charger for the girl amiibo, roller for the boy amiibo, and something else for the squid. It just feels like a lazy way to make the single player content longer and an even lazier content gate for the exclusive items, which I wasn't expecting at all. Talking about amiibo's, Game's lorry with all the special editions have been stolen: They were turned on when I got on last night! It was full of Japanese people, so I assume that it's already out in Japan, and then press? Nope, I just got mine super early!

I don't think so! But I'm assuming the Single-player stuff is still available to play? And I have all those amiibo challenges too!
  16. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I preordered mine from Nintendo's online store. Whilst they suck at cheap indie games, their online store is actually really good, and usually offers stuff you can't get elsewhere. I got a funky t-shirt with my preorder.

As it looks like there's no way we're getting Moon Chronicles any time soon, I'd say it's pointless trying to bug them. I'm happy that Nintendo have done this, but also fuck NoE. Splatoon + 3 amiibos arrived just now. I have a whole day with them at my desk, tempting me. I want to go home. Now. T_T
  18. UK Thumbs

Who watched the Eurovision? I did for the first time ever, and it wasn't that bad! Actually kinda fun. Shame all the songs were shit and dull. England's song, for once, was actually quite good. Although none of them beasts the majesty of Ukraine's 2007 entry:
  19. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

You don't, really. Some monsters have tails that can break, which you can identify when they're broken by a breaking noise, and a visual difference. From memory, the ones that have tails you can break but not cut off are: zamitros, kecha-wacha, congalala, nercylla, seltas queen and the rajang. The great jaggi, iodrome and the velocidrome all have tails that can't be cut off. There are probably more, but I have Forgotten them!
  20. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

When you're carving, don't forget to crouch! It's quicker, as you don't have to wait to stand up again. It's the only way to get all 6 carves from the Dalamadur before the time ends. I'm in G-rank now! Oh boy are things getting exciting! I love how deep this game is.
  21. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

P+D is out! I've got it! (unless it's a EU/US thing) P+D has a hilarious pokemon-esq overlayer thing which I don't know is in the phone version. And it's actually quite sweet. the mascot dragon is cute. It's not bad! The puzzle aspect is supposedly great, I have never played a P+D game. I have only played it for like an hour though. Whilst I liked Fantasy Life, I got bored of it before I finished it. The story was really average. And levelling up your respective lives got tedious pretty quickly. Fishing is the worst life. Did you get bored of MH4U then?
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Rejoice! Bojack Hoseman season 2 has been confirmed!
  23. Life

Ah. I didn't know that! I also didn't see JonCole's post, which is much better than mine. Yeah, you can always make that decision later. It feels like there are more pro's than cons though at the moment. Good luck! I'm insanely jealous! Also, on a side note, I'm sorry to hear about your date! I think you did all you could, for what it's worth. She probably really appreciates your actions more than you think. Here's hoping she gets back to you!
  24. Life

Oh good luck Twig! Whilst I love Japan, I worry that you might not enjoy working there. After my first month of living there, I definitely noticed the xenophobia. It's really subtle, but it's everywhere. Probably a lot less in tokyo, where tourism is high, but going anywhere out into the sticks, you'll definitely notice it. Also, regardless of the company, work hours in Japan are brutal. The anime cliche's aren't there for no reason. Expect to drink until the first train home with your boss. It's considered really rude not to. But saying that, fucking do it man. If you don't you'll regret it! I'm jealous! If you need friends or help moving in, I have English speaking Japanese friends who live near Tokyo, who I can put you in touch with. They'll welcome a chance to practice English! Finally, learn to play Riichi Mahjong. You won't regret it, and going to a Mahjong parlour is a lot of fun. And you'll bond well with your colleagues, I think. Also, get all the amiibo's!
