OK! I dunno if we should make this thread into a "look at what I'm working on" thread, but here's stuff I'm fiddling with an engine for a game with hotline miami combat mechanics in gamemaker. I've added rolling and knives that stick to walls, and some rudimentary AI that circles you and tries to stab you. I'm not sure what I'm gonna make of it but it's fun to muck around in Sorry for huge gifs

Networking in gamemaker is actually pretty difficult for realtime online play, but the netcode used in Nidhogg is actually pretty ingenious for the limitations. I read somewhere that messhof used techniques similar to those used in GGPO for that "rollback" effect that looks lagless, but judging from experiences in this thread it could definitely use some work.

There's really only one cash barrier but that can be circumvented by being a boss at the game I feel like DS opens later stuff to you if you can grab it, while LBW lets you poke at later stuff if you grind for it. Like in DS it's actually pretty simple to get a great scythe deep in the catacombs at level 1 within 20 minutes or less, you just need to be insanely perceptive.

Thanks for the kind words! the only thing I can think of the sneak a Congrats Nick in there is UV paint or microscopic imperfections in the cloth of his uniform that form clear but jumbled messages

Hahahaha and like they're looking at the viewer while fighting so it looks like those medieval paintings where everyone's facing forward and posing but doing something impossible strenuous. Is a PSD ok?

Awesome subbes! That's...an insane amount of consideration. I guess I'm not really surprised that calligraphy is so nuanced but that's granular to a degree I didn't expect! Kinda unhappy with the medals, but this is the latest iteration of Nick:
