I'll try "Hanging out" right now until I need the bandwidth for something. Edit: After a brief but pleasurable interaction with Gormanator, I'm out to go play Rust. A specified time would be exciting. I should always include an exclamation mark if I end the sentence with "exciting". A specific time when we meet up in the hangout would be exciting!

I think there is a potential here for a converse of Peggle where you place the pegs instead of launch the ball. The way I see it, it might be a nice arcade game if you add gravity (attraction of the ball to the bottom of the screen). Score modifiers could make it more interesting. Maybe points are based on how long ago the peg was placed. Combos could be awarded for the ball hitting the pegs in the order that you placed them.

The Google example is speaking of a brand. A better example might be the invention of the transistor. If art is valued as a brand, then I agree with you. I don't want to be identified as a predator apologist. I don't want to subscribe to a brand that appears to normalize or validate violent behaviors. But I do want to appreciate art as a useful point on the matrix of my worldview and I don't think it's fair that someone might assume I am a murder apoligist because I repeated "Language is a virus from outer-space." with enthusiasm. Your interest in the artist being alive is understandable because I certainly don't want to fund ongoing abuse.

As a thought experiment, let's change it from art to science. What if we found out that Nikola Telsa was the most deplorable human being in all of existence. Would someone who appreciates alternating current be inconsiderate of the crimes Tesla had committed? I have been playing down my own difficulties with how knowledge of the author's reality can taint my enjoyment of their creations. I'm not as confident on this subject as I am putting forth. I understand that this is a great subject for discussion, but my argument is not about solely that. Your point is dependent on accepting a brand as a part of the audience's identity. To me there is a huge difference between saying "I like Woody Allen's films" and "I like Annie Hall". It's just that I don't usually notice the difference until I become aware of something like Woody Allen's fucked up behaviors.

I shouldn't have said "ridiculous", that was disrespectful. Here is what I find hard to accept. I am currently enjoying the music of a band named "Washed Out". If I find out tommorow that one of their members is a child-molester, I cannot understand how the value of the music has suddenly disappeared. Of course I don't want to enable destructive behavior, but as someone who has a desire for knowledge, I can't just pretend like I don't like the music anymore. I think that doing so is a result of attribution-error. I mean that celebrity-worship is going to result in these conundrums.

This is a reasonable concern. I certainly don't want my appreciation of Annie Hall to make a victim feel isolated and vulnerable. But I think there is a way to do that without pretending to not like the movie after I find out that the writer/director is a sexual predator. What I want is for victims to heal and offenders to be nerfed. This seems like a job that could be better handled by a reliable justice-system than a group of art-critics.I'm not saying that the U.S. justice-system is reliable or that art-critics shouldn't discuss the crimes of artists. Edit: When the problem is framed in the way of "Either we appreciate everything Woody Allen did or we ignore all of it", people will feel a need to defend Woody Allen based on the worth of his oevre. Why distort the value of the contributions to culture with the injustices that have been committed by conflating them through attribution? We certainly don't want to give the perpetrator a lesser punishment because of his contribution (atleast i don't want to). One does not necessitate the other. Claiming that they should be inextricably bound through the author's name makes it look like good things come from bad.

I separate works from the creators. I don't appreciate Guernica because Picasso was a psychologically and physically abusive misogynist, and I don't dismiss Guernica because of it either. Despise destructive behaviors, appreciate benevolent behaviors, love people. If someone who kills kittens for sport also buys and delivers groceries for elderly folk, are you going to say "Everything you do sucks!" or are you going to codemn their kitten killing habits? Now this can get kinda tricky. If people begin saying that kitten killing is ok as long as you buy groceries for elderly people, then you treat good deeds as currency; that's problematic. I would also have a problem with the kitten killer watching my cat while I'm on a trip. Edit: I had to edit this a bit.

That was an awesome story. I'm going in the opposite direction with the game. I'm planning on using it as a violent hobo simulator. For me this game is about scarce resources and territory. I love hearing a gunshot, stopping what I'm doing, and running for the hills. I'm like that kid who was raised by wolves. I am enjoying the game far more than I expected to. I haven't played Daisy, so I don't know how it compares, but Rust feels like FarCry 2 mixed with Minecraft. Yeah, I said it. I typically spend about an hour running away from anyone I see and squirreling away as many stones as I can, finding a place in the mountains where I can cook my chicken without anyone in the fields seeing my fire, crafting a bow, and returning to the field at daybreak to hunt and gather more resources, only to be killed. Then I turn off the game and do the same thing the next day. I would think tht it would frustrate the hell out of me, but I'm having a blast. The first deer I kill with a bow gives me a genuine feeling of pride and accomplishment every time.

Understanding how to criticize yourself for improved performance is a difficult skill to learn. What I've found helpful is to think of criticism in terms of a specific behavior, rather than who I am as a person. The more I use general terms like "my life" or "always", the more powerless I feel. I try to say things like "I fucking suck at tightening this fucking nut under the right-side drain of this particular kitchen-sink!" rather than "I suck at fixing stuff!" Man alive, I had a hard time tightening that nut. It's stayed on for two weeks though, so maybe it's over.

I'll post progress atleast three times a week and include links to things like image files and playable builds. It might be a few weeks before I have a build.

I totally want to use this song if I have permission to. I decided today that my goal will be to make progress on the dancing game and post about said progress three times a week. I think that that will keep me motivated and moving without overwhelming me. If you want to contribute anything to the dance game project at any stage, please do so. I am taking no ownership of this project. If anyone wants a piece of it, then as far as I'm concerned, they can take it and do whatever they want. If anyone wants to add songs in, mod the game in progress, or use my sprites or code, they are more than welcome to do so. If you have a separate idea that you would like to work on, but are having difficulty with, then I would be excited to help.

My plan is to use Game Maker to have a circle of characters that clap during a song and take turns going into the middle. The player won't have a choice of who goes into the middle, but once they do, the player will be able to press buttons to make them use certain animations. I'm wanting it to be really choppy and simple. I'd like to use something that sounds like upbeat, greek, folky dance-music from the mid to late 20th century, but I imagine that switching out song tracks won't be hard. I might eventually add something at the beginning or end of the song that establishes place. Ideally, I'd like the game to choose a random circumstance, all of which will have to be authored. For instance, two of the characters appear on the screen and one says "This is the best wedding ever!" Another example might be two characters appearing on the screen and one saying "Let's just dance all night and forget about Alex." An excercise that entertains me is to think of your known senses. You know; taste, smell, touch/temperature, sight, hearing. And then what you do is you ask yourself a question for each in this pattern: 1,2, 1,2,3, 1,2,3,4, 1,2,3,4,5. It's important to really examine the question too. For instance, someone might think they can skip taste because they haven't eaten anything recently, but then I won't witness the true, slightly acidic, umamious ground that must gives me my horrible breath. Then when you come around to it the second time (and every time during this excercise), examine it again. It might have changed or you might notice something that you didn't notice before; like that you can kind of taste one of your fillings. It's actually quite difficult to make it all the way to the end (much like Super Hexagon), but if you do the world can change around you. I notice that instead of my circumstances being filled with everything I need to get done before the end of the month, I'm surrounded by an overwhelming quantity and quality of details. It can be rather euphoric. Also, if you decide to walk across Canada, wait til it's going to be warmer.
