So, now that I've reached a stopping point in Monster Hunter, I'm thinking of picking up Fantasy Life. Any opinions on the value of that game in the long term? It sounded like people were pretty into it when it first came out.

I've heard folks saying that they have a lot of fun playing on hard with permadeath off.

I ended up feeling that Titanfall was worth my $50, but I can certainly understand why others wouldn't. These days, I just don't get into competitive first person shooters anymore, and this was the first one in a while that grabbed me for more than a cursory, 5-hour, "this is kind of interesting" thing. It's also the first game I've ever prestiged in, though that might be just because the treadmill is significantly shorter than the average CoD game. The map pack may have been a stupid purchase, but I got it for 1/2 off so no big deal.

Nice. I'd love to back around the $50 mark in appreciation, but most of their rewards seem pretty lackluster to me.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 13: The Orchid's Curse
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
Spoiler about the courtroom scene and I guess pretty much the rest of the show The first time I saw this, I absolutely hated Harold, but I can see the beginnings of a good character in there that they're just not doing a very good job of developing. It's a shame that so many of the second season plots that most people think are lousy are just barely missing the target. (Except for Nadine, dumbest thing ever.) -
I guess this is a good time to point out that France doesn't grant the right to free speech anyway. They grant the right to free speech for things that there isn't a law against already. Edit: I guess if you really look at it, the USA has become like that as well. I guess what I was really pointing out is that these laws have been around for a while and they're just deciding to enforce them now.

Ug, combat took so long in that game though, I enjoyed the other bits.

Editing or some other work for a publishing house maybe?

Last night I was tired and just let my wife put on whatever she wanted and I ended up watching an anime with a bunch of personified battle ships skating around on water and shooting at monsters, some of which are also skimpily clad girls. It wasn't bad actually, just really really strange. They play with the sense of scale in a lot of really weird ways that sometimes makes the girls seem the size of the ships that the represent, and other times regular girl sized. I'm not sure if I'll watch anymore, but it did make me curious to try the game it's based on. Unfortunately, even though it's free to play, it's JP only and I can't be arsed to set up a VPN. (It's called Kancolle by the way.) I also watched the first episode of season two of Durarara, which was pretty weird having barely seen any of the first season. Edit: Twig, did you see that the last chapters of the Mushishi manga are going to be adapted into a full length movie? My wife is crazy excited.

I saw a some of that during one of the Extra Life streams. It looked pretty cool, but last I saw there wasn't an announced release date or anything. Now it's apparently PS4 exclusive : (

Looks like it's more of a single player game.

For actual Christmas-centric movies, I'd go with Christmas Vacation. For movies that are set during Christmas, I'd go with Lethal Weapon, though Die Hard always fights for the top slot.

Yeah, my problem has basically been that there's been no reason to try and optimize systems to get up to 50k dust per turn. I've been putting along fairly slowly and nothing has happened to me at all.

All my friends are outpacing me in this due to a combination of more time and more willingness to grind the same activities over and over. I just hit 1.5 million credit net worth last night after a particularly lucrative mining run (180k in 1hr 10 minutes) while my friends are starting to shop for ships up around the 10 million mark. Still I've avoided grinding bounties or trade runs and have made most of my money either mining or exploring, so that's cool. At some point I need to run some more missions for the empire though. I got stuck with the illegal goods stuff they want you to do. One of my friends is already a count

My experience with these large civ-like games is that everyone decides to leave just as its getting good.

I finally beat (saved the village) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS. I don't really have a ton to say about it. It's a Monster Hunter game much like any other so you either like those or you don't. I can say it was perfect for my hour long bus commute each morning. Bring on Monster Hunter 4!

I found it extremely challenging the two times I played through it, but it might get predictable as you play more? I don't know really.

So, Diamond update is out which makes the map "basically complete" as per the road map, so I'm thinking about giving this another try and hoping to not get stuck in the middle of nowhere this time. Anyone else been playing recently?

I'm playing as the Vaulters, so my main mission has been pacify a minor race > build resource extractors > build luxury extractors > build buroughs > find a specific city across the sea. It's only now that I've hopped in a boat that I've even run into another major race, and I'm not sure exactly where they are since it was just two armies passing in the night. I've only lost two fights so far, and have now pacified every minor race except one that I can reach without boats. I'm also at the very southern edge of the map, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

I'm 200 turns into my first game and so far it's not really grabbing me. Maybe I just picked a particularly boring world setup or something.

My wife has been playing Never Alone recently. She loves the content but man I don't think I've ever seen her angrier at a video game. She's not much of a platformer player really, but even when I picked up the controller to help out once I had a heck of a time as well.

I dunno, if you had a 20 minute conversation with him he must not have been that bad. There are people I like that I don't have 20 minute conversations with.

Ug, my wife spent hours last night arguing on Facebook about this last night. They have the right to publish horribly racist shit, I have the right not either not read it or even protest against it if I feel that strongly, no one has the right to kill someone else.

I believe I got it for Counter Strike, which I hate, but everyone was playing.

There's a lot of really interesting player character specific dialog in Vampire: The Masquerade. I kinda want to go back and play as a Malkavian to see some of the more interesting options.
