I bought an MVP Phoenix pennant

Yeah, I've been taught that stuff since I was about 10, that and the fact that Mount Rainier could turn into an active volcano at any moment. I would expect that most areas have some sort of disaster pending. On the plus side, we're pretty good for every day threats. Not likely to get frostbite or heat stroke, no poisonous snakes and few poisonous spiders. The only disaster that we have semi-often is flooding, but no flash floods so you at least know it's coming with enough time to get out (also, that's mostly south west Washington, not the Seattle/Tacoma area.)

Logically, it seems like a raise of the minimum wage to $15 an hour would mostly hurt people who currently make $15-$20 an hour. In that pay range, you aren't getting a raise out of it, but the purchase power of your money is going down as restaurants, grocers, etc. raise prices to combat rising costs. If you're in a good job, you'd hopefully get a raise the same time that minimum wage goes up (my first job actually did this, so that's nice) but I'd imagine a lot of places wouldn't. The problem with income disparity and minimum wage arguments is that the disparity you're reducing isn't between the poor and the rich, but between the poor and the not quite as poor.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Dewar replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I was super happy during the second Rocket League stream when Jeff and Brad said that they weren't in on Dan's "weird asshole thing." I like watching competitive gaming as much as the next guy, but I'd prefer everyone to be civil and happy that the matches are close. Joking trash-talking can turn serious or hurtful so easily.- 1367 replies

3 Divine Rapiers in one game....

I've had a couple of very successful people tell me never to make the first offer, let the company do that. I'm not sure if I would have used quite those words, but being coy about committing to a pay range was probably a good move. Note: I have no personal experience with this advice, because every place I've worked has had pretty strict pay ranges for named positions, government style.

It might depend on the state laws, rather than federal minimum wage laws. In Washington tipped minimum wage is the same as regular minimum wage so a lot of this discussion is moot. Not only that, but we've got a massive plan just starting to get the minimum wage up to $15. http://www.eater.com/2015/3/31/8300981/seattle-minimum-wage-law-15-restaurants-suttonomics

Can you picture a configuration of points in 8 dimensional space and know what information is true as well? The point of the simple proofs that you have to do in math class is to then be able to generalize up to more complicated situations that are not so easily visualized. I mean I get that you don't want to learn to do proofs, that's fine because I don't really want to spend the time to draw either, but there is a purpose to them.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Dewar replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
The upgrade process is supposed to be completely roll-back-able up to a month after the upgrade. Additionally, if any sort of hiccup happens during the process, it will auto-roll-back rather than upgrading and then giving you a list of broken things. I have seen this process in person, so I know it works in optimal conditions at least. Are you trying to create a system restore point, or a complete system image? It's been a while since I've done a complete image, but they can be pretty huge, even larger than the amount of disk space actually used on the machine currently. -
I hope this goes well for you. I'm having a hard time finding anyone around me who has an available slot.

This is a pretty common thing, though larger companies usually have enough security folks that they can rotate around to areas they haven't been seen before so that external actors aren't required.

Man MVP Phoenix. I think they're starting to be my favorite team, because you never know what you're going to get.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

I plan on updating on my Windows 8 Tablet this weekend, but holding off for my gaming PC for 6 months or so. I play a lot of old games that just don't cooperate well with new OS's. -
I wish I still remembered how to do differential equations in any meaningful capacity from college. Math, like anything else, atrophies if not used.

That's good to hear. I bought a copy after watching the GB video content as thanks.

Man, it's weird to watch several teams play sensational one game, and then completely fall apart in the next. I guess the team that wins will show a little more consistency. MVP Phoenix especially, though that's only from the first couple of days of games.

I finished Dan's new book, Anxiety as an Ally. While I didn't necessarily find all of his advice helpful, it filled a nice niche for me of an anxiety related book that was short and light-hearted enough to actually feel comfortable buying and reading. Thankfully, I'm not even as bad off as Dan was anxiety-wise, but the first hundred pages, especially where he was talking about his initial experiences, was eye opening. That book, as well as a particularly lousy vacation, have finally convinced me to start looking into getting some help. So I guess, if you're on the fence, read it and then stop once he gets to Game Informer?- 1367 replies

Pretty much the same for me. In Washington State I was always taught 15%. Because I can afford it now, I typically still tip 10% for poor service, but 20% for average/above average service, and have gone up as high as 30% depending on how great the service and how annoying the mate I was with was.

I mentioned in the "I Quit" thread, but I feel like the All Stars ending is a nice Easter Egg, but the real meaty ending is either to climb the tower, or get all the puzzle pieces and open the last door in the final temple. Definitely don't get frustrated with the stars if you're enjoying the rest. Some of the stars are seriously hard.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Dewar replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
My memory is a bit rusty, but I believe Heide's Tower is where I went next. While the enemies there are real damage sinks, there aren't many of them (well, there weren't at least, I haven't played the remix yet) and at least half of them are completely avoidable since they're so slow. Lost Bastile is another logical step, though that was pretty slow going for me, a few enemies at a time.- 1284 replies

That's lousy Bjorn. I have a feeling we're going to see more of that sort of scope shrink in the next few years, but especially frustrating when the game did have that functionality, then it disappeared. It sounds like they might have had a tough time figuring out multiple controllers?

That poll is a bit self-selecting since only people who are active on the forums will even see it, and only those with a strong feeling one way or the other would answer the poll. I'd wager that if you put that similar poll on the forums of Elite: Dangerous, or even Broken Age, you'd probably get about the same response. That being said, I'm pretty much "tough luck" about people losing money on crowd funding. I put $150 into Shadowrun (not actually) Online, and I just ate it.
