  1. Recently completed video games

It's been a while since I wrote anything, but I've beaten a couple of good games. Dead Rising 3 With Dead Rising 4 announced, I thought I should probably pick this up and try it out. Originally I bought into the marketing un-hype that Dead Rising 3 had become more realistic and dropped a lot of what made the first two fun, so I didn't buy it at release. It turns out it didn't. The plot might be a little more serious, but the wacky bosses, weird side missions, and silly weapon combinations are all still in there. I'm also really happy they still included the time limited mode, even as an optional higher difficulty. On PC, it was one of the more pretty games I've played of late, with tons of zombies on screen at once. One of my better gaming experiences in quite a long time. Thea: The Awakening I've heard talk about this game on and off. Civilizations-ish, but with a small tribe of people rather than a country. RPG-ish, but with a whole village of people to select from. Plus, card-based combat. It definitely took some getting used to, tutorials are poor, but it ended up being pretty damn fun. I played through twice, the first time with a rough start and not understanding what a "complete game" actually looks like, and then a second where I optimized and went to town. My main complaint would have to be that whatever resources are randomly generated near your village makes a huge difference in the mid-game, and things can be a huge pain if you have to walk a ways to collect anything worth crafting with. Also, the end game kind of falls flat sicne large numbers of people end up making a lot of the later challenges and crafting kinda trivial. Regardless, I enjoyed my couple of games and hope to go back and play multiplayer with a friend. Well worth the price of admission.
  2. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Hmm, some interesting previews to be had on work screens on this page.
  3. Idle Thumbs Streams

Helldivers would be interesting. I haven't seen much of it.
  4. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Yeah, i guess I'm in the mindset that I would like to skip a generation, and then still play all those games for the console i skipped. That's probably the last thing those companies want to do, but I'd by a console day one if I knew I had that backlog of games I could dig right into, otherwise I'm waiting a year at the minimum. Back on subject, are all Wii-U games are required to be able to played on just the gamepad? If so, I suppose those could be made backwards compatible, at least for digital copies.
  5. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

The PS4 not being backwards compatible kept me from buying it, but I understand what you're saying.
  6. Dota 2 - TI 6

Man, last night went pretty late.
  7. Well there never has to be a PS5 now that there are incremental upgrades, so I imagine the PS9 can be whenever they want it to be.
  8. I have successfully purchased Rimworld. My first game ever will be from this seed and posted here for the hilarity of all. I'll probably start it tomorrow.
  9. Dota 2 - TI 6

Not sure, I've been mostly following Na'vi around from stream to stream.
  10. Idle Thumbs Streams

I voted Factorio, but would be perfectly happy with any of those, or any of Nappi's suggestions.
  11. Dota 2 - TI 6

I love the group stages. So much a different mood going on than later when any loss could mean elimination.
  12. Oh, I see, I thought this was going to be a succession game. OK, I can dig playing with the same start that way I'm not sabotaging anyone else with my poor play.
  13. Well I mean I'm gonna buy it soon, but I'd be coming in with little or no experience besides Chris's streams.
  14. The McElroy Family of Products

Maybe it's just that this is the first adventure I've been listening to as it comes out, but this season of The Adventure Zone has been pretty damn awesome.
  15. No Man's Sky

I happened to have a vacation starting on the 9th, so it's a bit of a bummer for me, but I'll live. Maybe I will buy Rimworld instead. Edit: Also, I always thought that release dates on Steam were non-negotiable once listed, so this would be an interesting situation. I assume I could get a refund if I wanted it, since the info on the Steam page is wrong. Edit2: I wonder if PS4 and PC will use the same universe and naming databases. Part of the fun for me seems like it would be having my name as the discoverer on a bunch of stuff. If being 3 days later means everything is already named, I'll be a bit bummed.
  16. Interesting. Is it weird that it feels like he's made too many moves? I mean I guess I'm the guy who does 5-ish years at my jobs before moving on, but it feels like he's moving around more than a lot of journalists that I follow online.
  17. interested, but I don't yet own this game, so it could be a disaster.
  18. No Man's Sky

Apparently the PC version was delayed a couple of days Steam still says the 9th, but the game website is saying the 12th.
  19. Dota 2 - TI 6

Nice view, expensive rotating restaurant at the top, and that general weird 60's future feel. I don't necessarily think it's super great, but it's major Seattle landmark and has the advantage of being pretty close to Key Arena. Sounds like you have a good set of restaurants picked out there. If you're going to be around Pike Place Market, there some mileage in just wandering and seeing what you find to eat. Lots of little cafes and odd spots in the area.
  20. Idle Thumbs Streams

Original difficulty was the Chillax narrator on the Free Play mode. Successive attempts have been Classic and Base Builder. This one is going well so far, so I don't think a change in difficulty is really warranted at the moment, but if things get frustrating it might be worth either doing Chillax + Base Builder or Classic + Free Play. Edit: Ha, I was one stream behind. That went bad real fast. Maybe a new game is for the best?
  21. Dota 2 - TI 6

I really like sleeping in on my vacation, but we'll see. Edit: Hmm, I wonder if I could call the Box Office and buy a ticket day of, or if it's really just in-person only. That would save me some sleep.
  22. Dota 2 - TI 6

It has been 90F around here the last week, so sunscreen is good, especially if you're going to watch out in the lawn. By the same token, weather changes in a flash around here so having a light weight raincoat is never a bad idea. There aren't that many places to eat right around the arena, but Pike Place Market is a do-able hike away and has a ton of variety. We have a nice aquarium on the waterfront, the EMP as sclpls mentioned, and the Space Needle which has become a fallout-ish what people in the 70s thought the future would be tourist attraction. We have a small but nice zoo as well. I was just reading on the website and see they have daily tickets available, so I might take a shot at getting one of those? I have a few days off to watch the streams, but it would be kind of a hassle to get up early and bus into Seattle and maybe not even get a ticket. Edit: On another note, I hate how Valve never wants to make clear any of the streaming details until right before things start. They have a watch it here link on the international page that just loops right back to the same page again, no news on what twitch channels will be running and if they've renamed them again this year, and it starts streaming tomorrow.
  23. Ghostbusters (2016)

I'm sure that everyone who wants to watch it has seen it already, but I made my quarterly pilgrimage to the house of popcorn and saw Ghostbusters. It was really funny in a lot of different (not better or worse) ways than the original. I loved it.
