I bought a $3000 32" Sony TV pretty much the month before they started including 1080p on all of their sets. It's definitely time for me to upgrade, but I'm waiting until we complete our move to figure out how much space we'll have.

I've been stuck at the top of the line a few generations back for a while, and I don't want to get stuck there again. Though a lot of that stuff was fairly affordable with Newegg discounts and rebates, plus getting the 32gb of memory for 16gb prices since they're lightly used. I went most overboard on the hard drives, but considering my machine already has 2TB of data on it, it seemed prudent to have at least twice that.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Uh oh, I just started playing that again too. -
Yay, finally getting to build a new computer and not be stuck with my Intel Core2 Quad anymore. Parts should arrive today and tomorrow. I opted for a full build, including a new case, power supply, and disk drive, so I can set the old machine up downstairs as a server for Starbound (amongst other games.) Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Power Supply: CORSAIR CXM series CX750M 750W System Board: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming LGA 1150 BluRay: ASUS Black Blu-ray Drive SATA Model BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS Processor: Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Hard Drives: 3 Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Memory: 4x8gb Memory sticks from a PC builder friend Videocard: Grabbing my 7870 from my current PC then shoving an older card in since it's just going to be a server. I'm going to RAID5 those three drives for some extra redundancy and speed, and that system board has an mSATA slot for yet more speed if I buy an SSD later. But now it appears I picked the wrong drives *shrug* oh well, can't really return them now. http://blog.backblaze.com/2014/01/21/what-hard-drive-should-i-buy/

In my line of work, storing any marketing material in-progress on dropbox would be grounds for a stern talking to, if not outright termination.

I made use of that last minute donation window. I now have authority to say that I would really like Nick to get something nice. I've been watching old Spelunky streams with him in and been having a blast. Unfortunately, I have no artistic talent to follow through on this request, so I'm just gonna beg. Won't please someone think of Nick?

The Other Paradox Games (Europa Universalis, Victoria, Hearts of Iron)
Dewar replied to Gormongous's topic in Strategy Game Discussion
So, how's EU4 doing these days? Some of my CK2 friends are starting to play it and I'm debating if it's worth the purchase. -
I hadn't heard that. I'm not sure how I feel about a new map. I always thought that was the point of moving over to EU.

Demon Souls arrived yesterday. Time to rearrange the TV so I can get some more PS3 time.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

That's when it got good Dibs. -
If there's not much field farming to do, you can go and farm enemies for crafting loot. Once I started to get some targets of exactly what items/armors I wanted to craft for myself, that monster hunter itch of tracking down the right enemy to get the item I need to make this super cool hammer. If I have RP left and nothing to do, I generally spend it either fishing or improving a set of crappy armor just for the skill increase.

At this point wouldn't you put in a HL3 directory in every project you were working on?
-
I like that it implies that we're robbing the companies of all their marketing materials.

Ug, I don't understand why work blocks any Valve webpage images. If they want to block steam, just block the website.

Now comes the lawsuits so that family doesn't have to pay for the wrongly provided health care. Yay!

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

There was a one-episode character who actually was Jack the Ripper, yes. A well acted character too, even if the story on that episode was a bit meh. -

It sucks when you have an employer that you don't want to leave in a lurch with a sudden departure, but is a dick to you once you tell them you're departing. My first job ended in a similar way, though I was only stuck there for about two months. Now I don't give anyone more than two weeks notice, no matter how much I like them.

OK, got to the next part of Rune Factory, and it seems like it's going to be pretty intresting. Unfortunately, I'm crazy overleveled since I've been trying to force my way through a much higher level area, so most of the enemies die in a hit or two. On the plus side, I'm way behind in upgrading my armor, so at least I still need to be careful to avoid attacks.

I'm stalled about half way through Season 3. I was thinking about trying to beat it this weekend, but I ended up playing Broken Age. I appreciate that the puzzles are a lot different and some of the more annoying faces from seasons 1 and 2 don't show up, but man it got a lot harder too.
-
Ah that would be it then, I only splurged for the $30 pledge. I'm so used to Kickstarters these days offering "your name in the credits" to anyone who's willing to throw a couple bucks in.
-
Hmm, just finished it. I apparently didn't send my name in or something, because I wasn't on the list of backers. I enjoyed both sides, though Vella's side of things was a lot more entertaining to me than Shay's. I also got stuck a lot more on Vella's side of things, though usually because I missed a hot spot rather than being confused about what the next step was supposed to be. I'll be interested to see how Act 2 goes (as well as the next couple documentary episodes) because, right now at least, I'm not really sold on the ending.

I got the credits before the end of summer after about 14 hours of play. I guess it wasn't short, but it feels like I haven't gotten the opportunity to realty stretch the mechanics, get all the good weapons, etc. At the same time, I'm aware of at least two spots on the map that have bad guys that still kick my ass. Also, I got a kill quest for an enemy I hadn't seen before, looked it up, and it's apparently on a world (not dungeon) map I don't even have access to yet, so there's still a lot to go. I think it's more that they picked kind of a weird spot to roll the credits than it actually being short.
-
So, I beat Rune Factory 4, or at least I saw the credits. It was kinda short, and not very hard at all besides that one boss I had trouble with. I'm hoping there's more to do, but I guess we'll see.

I think that's pretty much everyone's intention, but since no one can really understand what will offend someone else it's an impossible task. I didn't know about "crippled" until today, and I'm not sure what word I'd use to replace it in conversation. I'm still not convinced that "crazy" should be offensive to anyone, but apparently it is. *shrug* I dunno, I just stopped talking to people, it's the Seattle way.
