They can't treat you differently for raising a complaint, which just means they'll find some other reason to fire you if they really want. Not like you'd have the money to contest the issue in a real court. I would ask nicely in a "I'm curous how things work here" sort of tone why you aren't getting time and a half for something. It's always possible it's an accounting mistake. If you get the stone wall there, then it's up to you how much you value the job versus how much you value fair treatment.

I don't know why people keep saying that. The first part of Dark Souls they tell you to ring two bells, but tell you nothing of how to get there or what exactly will happen when you do. Then it opens Sen's Fortress and you're clueless what exactly you're doing for a while after than, before you finally get a modicum of information that leads you into the second half. That seems pretty functionaly similar to DS2's "get powerful souls" directive given to you by the level up lady. I'm not saying that I understood what I was doing in DS2, I'm really just saying I didn't understand it in DS1 either.

I made it through all but two puzzles in Pushmo/Pullblox without a guide. You can also skip a decent amount of them and still complete the game.

I got ME3 on PC free after the Sim City appology just to play multi with friends. I've got a couple of maxed out characters, but I'm certainly not super advanced. I'll try and remember to add you when I get home. I could use more Origin friends.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Dewar replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Interesting. I thought I'd explored that area fairly thoroughly, but maybe I missed a turn. Edit: Read a bit of the walkthrough in that area and I can't believe I forgot that. Thanks for the tip.- 1284 replies

There will most likely be an event chain later in your child's life that will end up deciding whether the child is a bastard or not. If he does end up being a bastard and you have no other children, you will play as your bastard, but you will have an opinion penalty with pretty much everyone. Any other sons you have will take precedence for your line of succession unless you legitimize him. As for the antipope, only independant rules are supposed to be able to create them, so you either got a glitch or Hedmark got swallowed after they created him. It sounds like your only path to get rid of him would be to get Hedmark seperated from the rest of Hamar somehow.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Dewar replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Speaking of trying to find things while playing blind, I've hit a bit of a dead end. I'll try to be oblique here as to not spoil for anyone, though I'd expect pretty much anyone reading the thread at this point. I've just beat the dual dragonriders and ran through the area behind them. I went up the elevator, but I don't have a key to get into the cage at the top. I picked up another key running through that area, but I have no idea where it goes. The person right before that boss told me I should be looking for Vendrick, but I have no idea where he is an when I looked it up in the wiki there was just too much spoiler-y info so I closed the page. Can someone give me a gentle prod in the right direction?- 1284 replies

I'm still a beginner, but the number of times I've been thinking we're losing and then the carry kicks into gear and takes over are many. I even got to do that last night (unfortunately, we still lost, but we held them off at the rax for 10 minutes or so.) I've also watched some epic throws by the GB team, snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Good AI decision making takes CPU cycles. Optimization helps, but there's certainly a hardware limitation as well. I used to play a lot of the Stardock games, and the head guy over there was an AI programmer. All of the turn-based strategy games they make have different levels of AI difficulty, and I loved playing against (and usually losing too) the full "unshackled" AI. However, the time between turns was something like four times as long as the normal difficulty.

I only learned reading yesterday that you can aim magic spells using the binoculars. This opens up so many possiblities.- 1284 replies

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Man, that's sad. -
In Witcher 1, I found it generally inexpicable which enemies would give me a hard time and which wouldn't. I'd go into a fight thinking that I had everything right, get absolutely rocked, then come back again a little later and have no problems with virtually the same setup. Also, the actual act of combat had very little variation as it was the potions you took beforehand that generally determined whether you were going to win or not. I also didn't find any of the spells all that useful, but maybe I was just trying out the wrong ones. I mostly used the push type spell.

The problem with that is covering fire doesn't do much to enemies in most of these games, and players don't tend to care a whole lot either. Some of the Tom Clancy games that offered 1-3 bullet kills (player or AI) helped some, but the modern FPS has you being able to eat so many bullets before you keel over that a little covering fire ain't no thing.

Don't forget X:Rebirth. Yes, it was a total flop, but it had quite the wave excitement before release. I'm sad that the combat in these things is what I'm least interested in, but it's the part that both games are focusing on first.

God people are stupid. Why would you congregate near police with their guns out, let alone somewhere where a gunman famous for shooting random people might be trapped.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Dewar replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Especially fun feature about the main character dying and that ending the game. There's an enemy in one of the dungeons that casts an instant death spell the moment that combat starts. It usually succeeds, so it's down to a 1/3 chance of instant game over when you fight those guys, unless to equip a personal that's resistant to death. -
The Idle Thumbs Lords Management Consortium - Dota 2, LoL, other Lords Managers unite
Dewar replied to Sean's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Agreed, the GB channel and guilds are all pretty active if you like playing with those guys. I think I might finally be getting to the point where I don't embarass myself. -
Dang it, I missed that a late-comer's league came together. Missed out on my 50 compendium points for joining a fantasy league.

Are you kidding, that looked like the best idea.

First session cooking with my new cast iron pan resulted in a decent amount of smoke, but no fire alarms and only minor burns. I did get the pan too hot and burned the crap out of the outside of my steak. It's a good thing I started with the cheap stuff.

Ship them maybe? Lego aren't that heavy.

I wonder what steps are taken (and how much trouble it is) to make sure that things like swear words don't show up in random codes.

Are you low on HDD space maybe?
