The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
That's disappointing, but not particularly surprising since his project ended fairly recently. -
I think they're working really hard to make this a new start point for the series, so they want to put the call-backs in for long time fans but not make them obvious enough to turn-off those new to the series. Fine with me, I'd have been pretty annoyed if they were rubbing DA2 in my face since I haven't played it.

Makes me wonder what it would be like to re-live the Rodney King and OJ Simpson trials that I was too young to really see both sides of.

From the stuff I'm reading, she's always your spymaster even if you got her killed in DA:O. Maybe you just didn't recognize her? It took me a few visits to the war table before I put two and two together.

Having done some research on this when the shooting first happened, there's a frustrating gray area that basically states it's OK to shoot a fleeing suspect if it is reasonable to expect they might go on to do bodily harm to others.

Importing the world state is not a substitute for taking the time to set things up in the keep. It pretty much just pulls in your character config, you still have to set a bunch of stuff manually. By the same token JonCole, you can probably just skip the data import and set it up manually. Hmm, maybe I just made different decisions or something, or maybe it's just my complete non-knowledge of DA2, but it seems like there's been a ton of DA1 mentions. Off the top of my head I can think of several arguments about whether Logain did the right thing at the start of DA:O, several mentions of the queen that I put on the throne, and of course Leliana is the spymaster (unless you killed her I guess, which could explain a lot.)

Take a picture of the TV, put it up on the TV screen, then take another picture of the TV.

Seattle is preparing for a riot. Apparently there were some demands issued to the Seattle PD. While I feel for the protesters, I don't exactly know what demands they expect to get from the Seattle PD about a grand jury 2000 miles away.

I can say that it's hitting my Hard Drive pretty hard in those loading areas, not sure if you're running an SSD or what, but I get some minor hitching from my RAID array after load points.

When I'm having a hard time going to sleep sometimes I try to get higher in the basic Fibonacci sequence than I've ever gotten before. I blame this on 3-2-1 Contact!

Hmm, I don't know if I ever created an account. I'll have to wait until I'm home to dig through my email.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Dewar replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I've started playing this a couple of times but never got more than an hour in. I guess I'm glad? -
Hmm, it's surprisingly hard to find a place with Elite Dangerous news on the web. The Kickstarter page hasn't had an update since May : ( None of the updates I've received have mentioned that Gamma is available to anyone who pledged, do you have a link to a news post or something? I'd love to jump in and play a little bit before release.

It seems like enemies respawn a bit quicker than I'd like in the open areas. I wish the area would stay clear until I left the map and came back at least. Still, having a lot of fun, though I keep wasting my power and having to go close more rifts to get it back, which I guess isn't such a bad thing.

I'm really hoping the multi-player in DA:I turns out to be as enduring as Mass Effect 3's multi-player has been. My Origin ID is D3war if people want to join me and try it out.

Goat Simulator: Queen of Chaos, Bringer of Destruction
Dewar replied to heybeardo's topic in Video Gaming
Sure, why not. They've probably added enough content to this to make it worth getting despite having watched a ton of videos at launch.- 16 replies

Depending on where you are in the game, there are certain types of bad guys who are much harder than others, depending on your character build and companions. Personally, I found playing through some of the DLC stuff a lot easier than the core game, and you get some pretty nice items to help you out.

You can still get pretty good black Friday deals if you want to avoid the door buster craziness. More on the order of 10-20% off, but it's still something.

I played an hour and a half of the single player last night. I'm glad someone else ran into the plastic/Vaseline hair problem, as I had the same thing happen and would have just lived with it had I not learned the fix from this thread. Even with that fix, the hair on my Qunari looks really goofy, with light blond corn rows but much darker brownish eyebrows and rest of the hair. I also managed to mess with her face enough to make it look like she's always worried and/or constipated even though it looked fine in the character creator. Oh, and I had to do the creation process 4 separate times because I missed the male/female option, missed the customize option on the face, and hit A to accept the default name instead of X to change it. Besides all that, had a lot of fun, liked the characters so far, looking forward to playing more tonight.

I should mention after my complaining about controls that I managed to have a decent amount of fun using the controller to play with a couple of friends last night for a few hours. There's a good challenge there, and you generally get enough for a small chest after each decent run. The starting equipment you get is absolutely horrible though, getting a single axe upgrade for my dwarf made his DPS almost double. I spent this morning reconstructing my DA:O play through on the website, I didn't play DA2 so I just left the decisions pretty much default. I wonder how much of it will show up in game.
-
All right, that doesn't bother me so much then. In fact, that sound's pretty optimal to the way I'd like to play. Trading is a lot more fun when there's a player driven market, but I don't want to worry about getting interdicted by uber-players every time I run a route.

I figured out why I'm so annoyed with the controls in multiplayer when my friends don't care. It only really matters for the shield bearers, since their facing matters for shield blocks and damage reductions. If you're a mage or an archer, the controls work just fine. Edit: Also, I can't figure out how the targeting works with the controller.
-
Right, but it's an action game, or is at least pretending to be one. Oh, and no voice chat options either, so be prepared to listen to tons of people who don't know they're on a microphone.
-
Ech, PC controls suck, really bad. They make this into an action game, but then don't even allow you to strafe at all with the controller. Switching over to the keyboard there's no way to turn on permanent mouse look, so unless you want to play holding the right button down the entire time, you don't get that either. Also, you can strafe, but you turn sideways when doing it making shields mostly useless. : (

Streaming now at http://www.twitch.tv/dewwar if anyone is interested. They'll probably be some voice chat from other online friends over it Edit: And done : (
