  1. Yay, this episode's delay has finally enabled me to catch up! I just started re-watching last week so I've been trying to hit 1-2 episodes a day, with podcasts and forum threads as well. Some odd things that others haven't mentioned stood out to me in episode: James specifically mentions Mike and Bobby in connection with the cocaine, but when is the last time Mike was actually in the show? Like the 4th episode? So odd that the character is basically gone but everyone still says "Mike and Bobby" While we're on the subject, with all the crap that Bobby has going on with Leo, why does he still care enough about Jesse to try and frame him with the cocaine? Especially after the revelation he had with Jacoby late last season. Finally, (and feel free to drop me a spoiler to answer if you know) where the hell did the Meals on Wheels note come from? What other characters in the show care enough about the amateur detectives to throw them a bone?
  2. Feminism

So I'm not going to look at any of those links here at work, but isn't youporn simply a distributor like youtube and doesn't produce porn themselves? In that case, isn't blaming them for not having progressive porn much like blaming youtube for not having more racialy diverse works? Theyr'e kinda at the mercy of what is submitted by users.
  3. Idle Santa 2014

Time to commence internet stalking, and by that I mean reading every forum post going back however many years to see if I can glean any juicy details. I just wanted to confirm since there was some discussion earlier in the thread, we settled on $20-$25, correct?
  4. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

Hmm, I trolled through my Excel sheet to pull out a few of the games I've beaten this year that stood out. Game of the Year, 2014 Shadows of Mordor - This game did a lot of things that other games have done before, but I didn't play a lot of those games so it was all awesome for me. The nemesis system was icing on the cake and I can't wait to see it expanded and made even more mechanics crazy the next time around. Honorable Mentions Titanfall - Though it died quickly, I really had a good time playing Titanfall with friends and I expect that a lot of the advances made with scale and mobility will influence shooters for a long time (heck, look at this year's CoD and Evolve to see some of that happening already) Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall - After some debate I decided to take this one out of the top slot since it built so much on Shadowrun Returns from last year. Still a damn good game and pretty much everything I wanted from a Shadowrun revival. Massive Chalice - I've had a ton of fun following the development and even more fun playing the early release version of this, but it narrowly misses the GOTY slot because I haven't actually played the finished version yet. Old Game of the Year Fez - By the time I noticed the craze for Fez, it was already past its peak so I never really got into it. It was only because it was free on PS+ that I even tried it at all, and boy was it a treat. I managed to get a pretty far ways in without having to look anything up, and I felt awesomely clever the whole time Honorable Mentions Device 6 - I downloaded this when I was on a business trip and I really didn't know what to expect. It seriously messed with my mind in a way that The Room and Year Walk didn't quite hit, and it stuck with me for a long time after. Thomas was Alone - Simple, yet awesome. Basic, yet deep. I don't know exactly why it grabbed me, but man it grabbed me hard. Ancient Game of the Year X-COM: UFO Defense - Yes, the old X-COM. I never played it when I was young and with the help of a few mods that updated some of the UI bits, I finally got to experience it. I kinda understand now why people were a bit upset with the new one, it's a completely different style of game with much lighter resource management aspects than the original. Honorable Mention Divine Divinity - When everyone else was ranting about Original Sin, I decided to go on Steam and buy the Classic Divinity pack. It's been rough going at times, but it's amazing what this game was doing 12 years ago. It definitely stands up against Diablo 2 with slightly poorer mechanics but way more story and non-linear game play. Party Game of the Year Mount Your Friends - This year brought a wave of loneliness as my wife and I moved out of a shared house, so we bought a bunch of party games and started inviting people over. This is the game we always go back to. It's perfect in so many ways, music, wangs, grunts and all. Wife's Favorite Game of the Year 80 Days - I just had to mention this somewhere. While I liked this game quite a bit, my wife has played through 8 times. It has crazy good writing and I hope that the author goes on to write more games like this, even if she has to go to another game studio to express herself.
  5. Ug, whenever I want to re-install I just buy new drives, just in case I forget to move something. I also have a lot of crap.
  6. Parable of the Polygons

I guess being a mathematician made me just see the problems with the simulation, such as there are edges which behave differently than the center, but I get the point at least.
  7. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

Wait, I thought they said the DW8 Xtreme Legends had all the Dynasty Warriors Legends stuff in it already and they weren't going to make DW8 Empires? Have they talked much about features? I absolutely loves DW5 Empires and have been wanting to play another for a while now.

Whoops, sorry. I somehow skipped that sentence.
  9. Life

You should try filing for unemployment anyway. State the exact circumstances and let the state decide. It's very possible that the company that you're fired from won't bother contesting, depending on your circumstances. My wife was fired and she's been able to collect, but I imagine that varies state-to-state and circumstance-to-circumstance.
  10. An email I sent to Giantbomb

I like the Brad-run Bombcasts. It felt like Jeff was losing some of his interest in it and he's picked up the ball in a major way. Ryckert-wise, he's playing the heel really well, to the point I can't tell how much of it is an act, how much is real life, and how much was an act but slowly started to become his real life. In general, I enjoy his role in things, as his dismissal of various games allows the other staff to get into some really cool details without just sounding like a group of yes-men, all agreeing with each other. Jeff does the same thing sometimes (Yoshi for instance) but not quite with the flair that Dan does. He's still an idiot though.
  11. Recently completed video games

This weekend I finally made it through Star Wolves 3:Civil War. That game is a collection of interesting ideas with extremely poor execution stretched way too long. The balance of the end game was so very bad that I ended up turning on Godmode (I'm willing to put up with an unhealthy amount of punishment in a game before giving up or cheating) to make it through the last 2 hours as to not waste the 50 not so great hours I'd already put into it. Why do I do this to myself?

It's worth noting that there's a classic mode that plays almost like Geometry Wars 2, no drone, flat playing field, etc.
  13. I think those are supposed to be boats chugging in opposite directions, not the wind blowing the smoke in two directions. It still looks funny compared to the smoke at the top of the screen though.
  14. Saints Row 4

Eh, I had my fill of Saint's Row 4 already. For me the series lost something when it shifted from a GTA knockoff to a Infamous knockoff.
  15. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I've enjoyed my time with it so far, though I just finally sided with the Mages and am about to assault the breach (and fail, I assume) so I don't think that I'm that far in? I dunno, I like the characters so far.
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    I don't get it.
  17. Life

Nope, Twitter is blocked from work so I can't read the twitter posts that people here quote, and by the time I've gotten home I've forgot. It's working well for me. Also, Facebook continues to work for party scheduling and remind me of birthdays.
  18. How do you organize your steam library?

    Agreed on the drag-and-drop.
  19. How do you organize your steam library?

RAID 5 with 3x 3tb hybrid drives. In theory having the RAID should offset the fact that I'm not running SSD, but it's definitely not as fast as I'd like. Also, it crashes occasionally *shrug* It's still nice to not have to worry about managing my installs or moving software back and forth between an SSD and a larger HDD, but I probably would make a different decision if buying today, especially as 1tb SSDs become more common.
  20. How do you organize your steam library?

I install everything as I first buy it and then uninstall as I beat or quit. That's the advantage of having a 6tb RAID in my desktop. Now that I've started buying games for 4 player local multiplayer parties, I've made a category for those. The experience has been acceptable, so I might do a few more. Also, I keep an Excel sheet of all the games I've bought and/or beaten this year, so that helps with organization as well.
  21. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I got to play a few more games last night and I found it fun enough, but it really just made me want to play ME3 multiplayer some more.
  22. Ferguson

Wikipedia Quote: So at the time when Grand Juries were popularized, prosecutors were private and there was a need to filter out both stupidity and harassment via prosecution. They still hang around because, well, laws are slow to change I guess.
  23. Ferguson

I'd rather have a chance to elect him instead of him being appointed by other people in the government. Really neither is a good solution.
  24. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

*sigh* I used to like Stardock so much.
  25. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I did better with that "Sell the other ship" tip. I ran 4 missions, taking along extra cargo to see after each trip, and also go interdicted a couple of times and got some practice at the combat. Overall, I think I made about 10k in an hour or so.
