I'll bet Hatred does moderately well sales-wise, but whatever Destructive Creations' follow-up is comes and goes with a three-digit number of sales.

So I've been collecting all the Sunken Scrolls in single-player, which give you tiny pieces of flavour text and artwork that serve to contextualize the setting, and holy shit.

I hope they put that toy skull in every shot.

The good games in that series weren't proper platformers though! That first game was this delightful little adventure game with time management and light platforming elements, plus a sort of awkwardly-inserted checklist of things that had to be in a video game at the time (drive a car, fly a spaceship, shoot a gun). It's unpolished, but really charming, and the only sequel that took the ideas of the first game and ran with them was the Japan-only third game for DS.

For anyone like me who's interested in trying the two-player local multiplayer but thinks it would be unfair for only one person to be able to use the combination motion control and sticks that the gamepad does, if you go into controller selection and hold down on the d-pad, then hold down B, and then press ZL and ZR, you can unlock... this. I am dead serious.

Count me on the "I dislike Brothers" bandwagon. Everything about that game is so contrived and cloying and video gamey. Putting their emotional gut punch after a fight with a giant spider boss just made me roll my eyes.

You mean Mako? Maiko is the idol that Maho and Anna work with. Having another bad coming out experience so soon after reading this made it hurt so much worse. I hope things at least work out okay for Nitorin. There's a lot of terrible shit that could happen in the next volume and I don't want to see any of it happen to that poor kid. An aside, the ending gave some nice development for Sarashina too. She's been pretty flat until now, it's nice to see her supplement the fact that she pretty much likes everyone by having her actually giving good advice and support.

So, my email covered a lot of ground: I told him about my being gay, detailed the abuse I had to go through at the hands of my parents, and summarized my financial and work history up until now. I asked if he would be willing to provide me any help, even if it was just a reference for a resume. The response had a bit of dancing around my sexuality without ever really addressing it or how he felt about it, "personal beliefs" about the importance of family and how I wasn't giving mine enough regard, refusal to give me a reference because he didn't know anything about my work, and a brief lecture about how he spent two years as a young man pulling himself out of student debt that his parents had helped cover. I don't get it. I don't think I'm wrong. I get that parenting is hard, but I don't think my parents deserve regard for the way they treated me. Not even admonishment for their actions. And it's pretty condescending for someone who recovered from debt in two years with their parents to talk down to someone who's battled with it for five without any family. I don't know how I'm going to get by on my own. I've done my best to try to live without family, and I just keep sinking down. And then I finally turn to a relative for help and they let me down like this. I don't know what to do with myself anymore. I don't want to rely on anybody but myself, but I can't do it.

it's been nearly a full 24 hours and it's killing me.

I haven't been able to find the source that I heard it from, but it's possible that I misinterpreted it or even that some scenes were redubbed by the whole cast or even shot after much of the rest of the film. It does seem clear from Wikipedia's production notes that the film was originally intended to have no or minimal dialogue. EDIT: yeah what twig said

Man, the ending to the newest volume of Wandering Son is a real gut punch. Really can't wait to see how it pays off in the next volume. I'm trying to avoid spoilers online and the next volume is probably going to take forever to come out again, which is a pain. I don't usually think about chapter titles too much, but I love the choice of "The Dam" for a chapter about Nitorin building up confidence and "The Dam Bursts" for a chapter where that confidence is shattered all in one go. It's a great abstraction.

There's an effort on the part of certain dog breeders to bring back old-style pugs and bulldogs, which I'm pretty happy about.
