SAVE THE CHEERLEADER, SAVE THE WORLD
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

You can now pre-order digital copies of select Nintendo games! It only works for six games right now (Captain Toad, Smash Bros Wii U, Pokémon Art Academy, Fantasy Life, and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), it's US/Canada only, and you have to do it through their website; but it's a start! I put a preorder down for Alpha Sapphire to test it out. Apparently you can set it to download the game automatically at release, but I haven't found that option. Maybe it's US-only? (note: those are the US pages. If you're in Canada like me, just try to sign in with your NNID. It'll give you an error that includes a link to the Canadian page for that item. I have no idea how to navigate Nintendo's website)

Does that mean every episode ends with a cliffhanger being resolved and two additional cliffhangers being introduced?
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I agree completely. Jeff in particular has been very open about not being in support of Gamergate via twitter, but -as expected- once again dumped the responsibility to say something onto Patrick. It's just baffling in general that it took this long for GB to say anything about it. Alex sounded really fed up on Monday's Bombin' the AM. Too little, too late.
  5. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Demo launches on October 21st and will have content that carries forward to the full game. To get the demo, you need to go to Pokemon.com and set up a Trainer Club Account by October 19, then get a code out of the newsletter (so make sure you opt in for emails). There will likely be other methods, but this is the only one that's been confirmed.
  6. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

is it haunted by the ghosts of previous corn or what? also, missed a great opportunity by not calling it a maize maze
  7. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Weev went to prison, and now he's a neonazi, soooo...
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Kind of. The actual quote is from Spider-Man (the comic, decades ago), but similar phrases have been used historically.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Nope! From Batman. Maybe it's one of those things like how many people believe "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" comes some important historical figure and not from Star Trek II. Sigourney Weaver did some interviews in the wake of Alien Isolation and ended up kind of accidentally hitting the nail on the head.
  10. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I don't think saying something is ironic makes it any better than the real thing if they're identical in execution.

I appreciated that in Paranorman, at least the butt of the joke was the cheerleader who didn't realize he wasn't interested and not the guy himself; but yeah.
  12. Wizaaaaaards!!

  13. I'll bet Lady-Who-Will-Become-Killer-Frost gets shot with that cold gun or something.
  14. It's Canadian Thanksgiving Turkey Day! Naturally, I celebrated by watching the appropriate MST3K episode:
  15. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I've been deliberately avoiding using Batman references to describe this situation because of those two guys with the Bane quotes in their mission statement video thing (whatever happened to those guys?), but now that we're opening that kettle of worms: "You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand." (...I guess that can be either Milo or Weev. Take your pick. Gamergate's been good at picking representatives that nobody would ever want to be associated with)

  17. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

Just realized Azumanga Daioh turned 15 this year. Fuuuuuck I'm ooooooold.
  18. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

Oh also, time for some ~spooky anime~ This is a two-part OVA by Japanese horror manga legend Kazuo Umezu, produced back during his weird early nineties glam rock phase, before he became a weird old man who only wears "Where's Waldo?" shirts. The first part is much better than the second, but I still get a kick out of the whole thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjxSL3Hy92E I'd also post the entirety of "Magnetic Rose" from Katsuhiro Otomo's "Memories" short film collection if it were available subbed streaming anywhere. It's a fantastic haunted house story in space, easily the best part of Memories.
  19. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

    HALLOWEEN AVATAR TIME MOTHERFUCKERS
  20. The queen does indeed have transparent teeth for some weird reason. I always forget about that. ...Still silver on the other ones though.
  21. I use Vuze, myself. Everyone thinks it's weird, but I love it.
  22. Nope! This was an independent place called The Opera House that used to be an actual opera house. How they got a Xenomorph costume, I'll never know. It was easily the coolest thing in there, with the closest runner-up being a Joker playing card signed by Jack Nicholson.

I heard that after banking so hard on the LGBT goodwill that Laika had built up with the openly gay character in Paranorman and the gay couples in the first teaser trailer, The Boxtrolls really disappointingly veers into some potentially really insulting territory with a crossdressing villain who serves as the butt of a lot of jokes. I was excited by that first trailer and I loved their last two films, but I'm not comfortable with that shit.
  24. They're silver. The city I grew up in used to be home to a restaurant/nightclub that also served as a museum of movie props and memorabilia, including an original Xenomorph costume. It was actually my first exposure to the franchise. Sadly the building burned down in 2010 and all the cool stuff inside was destroyed.
