  1. I don't really know about the name being an allusion to anything, but, having finished the game, the name makes sense.
  2. Recently completed video games

I just finished The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and the ending really changed what I thought of the game, I won't say more than that. But I really enjoyed it. Short game, and incredible looking. Def worth playing.
  3. So I just finished the Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and I loved it. I don't want to say too much, but a lot of what the thumbs people thought was dumb ends up making sense. There is method there, its just not supernatural stuff thrown on. Definitely worth playing. Also goddamn beautiful.
  4. I'm not that far into it, but I think I like the Ethan Carter a whole lot more than the thumbs crew. I certainly have no issues with the writing or supernatural stuff, but also I could just enjoy walking around in it because its so pretty.
  5. Recently completed video games

I just finished Middle Earth: Shador of Mordow yesterday. Good game. I think I didn't get as much out of it as some other people did, I never really had any great back and forth with any of the captains/warchiefs. Still fun. But really what matters is Bayonetta 2, next week.
  6. I have been meaning to watch Twin Peaks for a long time, esp after seeing Mulholland Drive and loving it. This cast finally pushed me over the edge, and I watched the pilot last night. It was so good. I love the tone but I think my favorite thing so far is how everyone is broken in different ways. Looking forward to the cast.
  7. The Fall

haha. Despite a few puzzles that were pretty bad, I adored the game for its tone and story, so I'm really looking forward to the next part. I have a history of falling in love with adventure games that have bad mecahnics/puzzles I guess. Or at least, I love The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, and TLJ had one terrible puzzle in particular that was impossible, while Dreamfall had a really bad combat mechanic.
  8. The Fall

Agreed, that one was annoying. There's one puzzle after where you are that I recall finding annoying as well but it wasn't as bad.
  9. Idle Thumbs 178: CS Losers

Oh man this episode made me realize that I still try the Half-Life crouch jump in most FPS games, if I can't make a jump, without thinking about it. I'm sure it doesn't work anymore in just about anything, barring CS, but I guess since HL1 was basically my first shooter that mechanic just got etched into my brain.
  10. Dark Messiah

I actually recall quite liking this game. Perhaps i'll revisit it to see if I still do.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I also wrote a similar message. I did enjoy that Jeff Gerstmann retweeted this though:
  12. Yeah me neither, that's super soon! I'm really excited but I also have a ton of other games I'm in the middle of. I'll put things aside to play this though.
  13. Can you share what bars in San Francisco that have that pacman game were mentioned? I'd like to play it too
  14. Steam Curation!

Mine wont actually ever show up anywhere because apparently you need to recommend 10 games for it to show up and I'm never going to recommend more than 1.
  15. Steam Curation!

I took advantage of this great new steam curation feature to curate a game I like, if you would like to see this curation in action follow this hyperlink: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/fallrec also this seems like a good idea poorly implemented, which is a pretty valve thing to do.
  16. Wasteland 2

yeah I think im going to wait for reviews too, and I did kickstart it. And even weirder, I guess, is that I'm treating wasteland 2 as a litmus test for the new Torment game they are making. Can they make a good crpg? Is it will written? The writing will be the most important I think. in
  17. San Francisco Residents!

Oh I actually did want to go to the game night that Altaco mentioned but I forgot about it. I think they do it regularly though, ill have to go sometimes. Anyway, GaymerX (the event that Danielle went to and talked about on the podcast and it sounded rad) is coming up again, and they are doing a kickstarter. I didn't know about it last year, but it sounded awesome to hear described, so I am going to go this year. I backed the kickstarter enough to get a ticket.
  18. I'm in, as I mentioned on irc. Bought the game. e: well, might be some timezone problems.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Oh thanks. That was an entertaining read. I would also have a lot more respect for them if it were goodgamers.cool. or coolgames.cool. coolcoolcool.cool. That last one is available. I'm tempted.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

oh I must have missed something about this. I saw when it got started and that a guy was raising money to hire his fiancee/wife, which seemed rather suspect. Why are they trying to close it now?
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah, I really enjoyed that bit. Now I am imaging the paranoid homeless man from Jazzpunk just spewing the names of fallacies. "Uhhgh appeal to authority. ad hominem. hnng strawman." *vomits everywhere* "unngh no true scotsman"
  22. Shaving My Thumbs

This is what I was going to recommend, down to the same link. DE safety razors are great.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So the New Yorker ran a piece on Depression Quest (http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/zoe-quinns-depression-quest) and now even its journalistic integrity is being called into question. This is my favorite: https://twitter.com/christopher1977/status/509541266838024192 e: and in case anyone was wondering, The New Yorker does, in fact, have a fact checking department.
  24. Ello.co

I made an account, its coaxmetal, just in case anything happens with this thing. I suppose I probably also have invites.
