  1. [Release] Bogost in the Shell

Skeleton of the game is done now, I can play through it from beginning to end but there's endless amount of details and extra stuff I'll start adding now. I'm not going to show/explain much more what the game contains, because it is all about finding and looking at all kinds of different (hopefully sometimes amusing or interesting) lightly interactive stuff. Still here's new street ads (I traced from those source pics). ...and speaking of ads: Make small fake pop-up ads for me! I have a crowdsourcing idea: I need lots of fake internet ads. These would start to fill up a screen area that is 960 pixels wide and only 124 pixels high. The game's cyberpunk setting could be reflected somehow in the ads ('Hot Scandinavian love bots are waiting for you') but they don't need to be referential or humoristic necessarily (player probably doesn't even have time to see them clearly). Your contribution could be a rough concept with some text and a image (can be in separate files) or a fully realized ad. I will edit them, if needed, to fit the game. Here's some examples of the type of ads I'm thinking about: - I make 4000€ in a day. find out how - Play discreetly my lord - one weird trick... - 10 things you didn't know about. - online betting, get 500 free credits now And here's an early example with Mythalore's NatureBitz ad and a banner composed from things dibs sent me. I would like a variety of styles, from flashy neon horrors to plain and boring office aesthetics. __ edit: ok, the ads idea was not that interesting - still, that dibs banner made that idea worth having.
  2. [Participation Agreement] The Clone Progenitors

Well this is interesting! You can use my forum profile/history.
  3. Strong GOSOTY contender (game over screen of the year)! It's a pretty deep metaphor for something when the selfie blocks the view for a while ("Cannot see the road with tubes for the selfies"). I was a confused modern idiot at first because the secret to vaping wasn't explained (<- collect 5 juices, then left click).
  4. [RELEASE] Business Guys On Planes

You know it's a nice gif, when you can't look at it without thinking about potential sound effects! Also, that looks kind of like the world's worst Shoryuken! (as in how effective it would be, probably gives your opponent the invincibility frames). ps. I really hope you're able to find/make/include the freestyle sax solo.
  5. [Release] Bogost in the Shell

All the interactions and gameplay will probably be working in some form in about 3 days, then rest of the jam is about adding sound, more graphics and random tuning and fixing. Here's some more gifs. Hacker's different levels of alertness (you can see the player getting hit in the radar!): Storage area's light puzzling: Transitioning to next scene:

  7. [Release] Bogost in the Shell

That's what the private Slack messages are for dibs. Here's a song that plays faintly in the background in the alley scene (the bassline imitates a certain appropriate song) BitsRave.mp3 And two BitSGIFs:
  8. [Release] Bogost in the Shell

Although this looks a bit like somekind of an action platformer, it's more like a simple adventure game where you try to find a way to progress into the next area. There probably will be no fail state / dying, maybe somekind of grading in the end. I now have constructed early versions of all the scenes in Photoshop. Next I will start building the areas in Gamemaker and see if I want/need to make some changes to the progression of the game. ps: I love that Bogost in the Shell's acronym is BITS!
  9. [Release] Bogost in the Shell

Thank you! My ancient computer crashed in a scary way today, I hope it doesn't completely die on me during the jam (my personal cyberpunk motto seems to be 'Low Tech, Low Life') Anyhow, here's rough wip versions of the first three scenes (there will be 5 in total, I already scrapped one). In the next post I will write more about the gameplay and progression.

  13. Here is the eternal enigma. Also, Chris's Waluigi voice is amazing.
  14. Welcome to Wizard Jam 4!

Celebrating the hot new branding I want to photoshop everything that has a 4 in it.
  15. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

I was brushing up my Goldblum knowledge on IMDB and noticed this topical TV film: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1980) It has been uploaded to youtube and I think I already found the scariest scene.
  16. Welcome to Wizard Jam 4!

Let's settle the jam #brand. I'm happy with both keeping the Winter name and renaming. This is not a serious dilemma but hey I like to overthink stuff sometimes. Here's my musings at the moment: 1. Winter Wizard Jam (2016) + Is already established. Sounds catchy. Has kind of a real world analogy with Olympics/Winter Olympics. - Would have to make clear that 'winter' is not the theme (anymore). 2. Dishonored Wizard Jam (2016) + Good way of describing a second, alternative version using a well known Idle Thumbs joke. - New, long name, does not sound very catchy. 3. Wizard Jam 4 (Unifying the naming with the spring jam) + Clear, traditional way of naming a thing. - Doesn't indicate that there is some differences between the jams. 4. [Theme] Wizard Jam (e.g. Winter Wizard Jam, Cyber Wizard Jam, Space Wizard Jam) + Prefix tells this is a spinoff jam. - Could be confusing especially after a few years.
  17. Sounds cool, it's a little DibsJam inside the WizJam. And like the famous documentary Inception demonstrated, time moves slower in these kind of nested things so everyone has time to participate (in other words, I will do something).
  18. Maybe this for a sweet Poirot cosplay? "Play Now, Chew Later!"
  19. Welcome to Wizard Jam 4!

When this current/upcoming jam has its own subforum I'll make a thread for the "(Game) Ideas from the Episodes" list - where people can easily find ideas and share if they've found new ones.
  20. There's a good interview with Messhof on RPS regarding why they wanted to make a sequel. Multiple weapon types is probably the biggest change/addition gameplaywise. "Kristy and I have been playing the game quite a bit since it was released, and it’s hard not to see little things that could be changed or added. I started keeping a list, and eventually it became pretty long. I started seeing ideas connect to each other and it felt like a sequel would make sense. I also wanted to tweak a few things with the original moveset, and it felt wrong to rewrite history for a game that so many people still play. Better to make it its own thing."
  21. Plug your shit

That looks like a perfect toothpaste mascot! "Let's make those teeth shine! / What, you use another brand?!"
  22. Duolingo - TWO LANGUAGE-O

Seeing "Home Video" in some VHS films as a kid was pretty strange because home means mold (the stuff that grows on spoiled food) in Finnish, and video is just video.
  23. AM2R - Samus roids again

I really enjoyed this! It's frustrating (but understandable) that it can't be openly available anymore but at least the developer is handling the situation well. Edited from the dev blog: Of course with all the modernization, while improving many things, the remake loses some of the original's magic. And that reminded me of this very personal and thorough Metroid 2 blog post on Gamasutra: A Maze of Murderscapes: Metroid II
  24. Game is here now: https://atteo.itch.io/thefirstageofextreme The First Age of Extreme - An action platformer inspired by NES and Amiga games like Rygar, Castlevania, Turrican and Shadow of the Beast. I love traditional 2D platformers, and this is another chance for me to practice making them. I'm using GameMaker again and for the scary movement/collision stuff I'll probably use HeartBeast's Movement Engine. It took me this long to start this thread because I was away for the start of the jam and then for some reason decided that I needed to finish a rough version of the complete map before posting anything... Here's what I have done in Photoshop so far.
  25. Two days for making the game, 14 days for creating an elaborate Tips&Tricks Guidebook full of useful cheat codes.
