Isn't everyone on an E3 stage going through wardrobe, or at least being vetted? I feel like the critique should be directed towards whomever at that company thinks that's what Video Game Dudes "should" be dressed in, as opposed to those guys being picked out. The second review indirectly points out that all the presenters on stage were outfitted the same for each company. It wasn't like a carte blanch decision or a case by case basis. Outside of Aisha Tyler, all the Ubisoft ladies had the same blazer/button down/jeans look as well. I do appreciate learning that the jeans/blazer look is called a mullet.
  2. Funny, the length of the podcast is a big selling point for me. I'd be overjoyed for 6 hours of Bomb and Beast cast a week. Tremendously helpful for getting through work and commutes.
  3. We need to talk about race

I am not at all convinced that you have the correlation and causation matched up in this case. I live on the coast, but I don't identify with people from the other coast. I'm not a Coastie or a Coasterner or (word that doesn't exist). My cultural identification is with a city more than a state, and certainly not an entire sub-region of the country. When I think about it, I would say I'm from the North, but unless someone is talking about the South I don't think about it. My state is so small that by the time we could reach an agreement on how we identify ourselves regionally, we've accidentally driven through two other states. Is the stubbornness of people determined to identify themselves as Southerners by culture creating the handicap, rather than as you say being viewed as a Southerner causing people to embrace it? "Southerner" feels more like a state of mind. I know people from Indiana and, like Mangela, Michigan who identify themselves as Southerners or with that culture.

Oh, it's just cards and badges? I am now relieved I'm not missing anything. Ooh, New Vegas Everything Edition and Fallout 3: EE are both $7, Stanley Parable is $2.50, and EU 4 is hells of cheap. AC: Rogue is not quite cheap enough for me to go for it.
  5. It is totally ridiculous, which of course means it perfectly appropriate. In the way I would apply the term, none of these people or podcasts even approaches what a "bro" is. They're all tremendous video game nerds. It's not an impossible crossover, but you'd have to work really hard to squeeze in both, especially in the industry. Out of all of these people I don't even know if anyone besides Alex Navarro knows the rules to more than one sport. I think that's a top bro requirement.
  6. Hypothesis- the surname is chosen based on the higher charisma partner. Now how do I test this properly...
  7. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

I still have no idea what that game gets me personally for playing it, if everyone else is unlocking all the daily deals at the literal speed of light.
  8. Ryan never spoke so he doesn't count. Seriously though, I tried going back and listening to those podcasts. They are hideously cringe inducing, and in terms of being a guy gamer's world they don't just step on toes they trample bodies.
  9. Ladies sure as hell run my Vault. Have a baby, kick ass in the wasteland, spend 5 hours doing crunches, then spearhead my water purification program. Basically what I'm saying is outside of the pregnancy part, Danielle is the prototype vault dweller badass.
  10. I think three hour doses of Dan Ryckert will do that to a person. Man, if people think GB is bro-y... holy shit 1UP and GFW (as pointed out, the original Brodeo) would have been nightmares.
  11. I am less surprised that someone feels that way about the Bombcast, and more surprised that someone has always felt that way about the Bombcast. It was basically my introduction to podcasts, and it's an amazing one. I learned about Idle Thumbs through Giant Bomb as crazy as that sounds. It's gone through a lot of changes in the... oh god 5 years I've been listening. It's a silly thought, because of course people feel differently than I do about thing. It's like it was my first Mario Kart. It's my urPodcast.
  12. That horrifying moment when you drag two people to the dormitory, and as you zoom in they're just standing next to each other. Then you see one of them remark, "Sure is nice to spend time with family!"
  13. Someone called it a Naked Teen Shouter "NTS". I wonder how that segment was for Jeff. He seemed like he wanted to have an actual conversation, and it just kept going to wackytown. Sean seemed really punch-drunk, like his batteries for Describing Video Games just weren't firing. It was hilarious, and I'm glad to see what video for an Idle Thumbs Podcast would be. I agree that it seems much more formal this year. It's very listenable, but I do miss some of that raw intensity and insanity. When I saw it was just a couch and the host chair it's what I assumed we were in for, but even so it's a bit of a shock.

My biggest takeaway from this year's Summer Sale is a combo of "there are too many games/I'm incredibly spoiled" Of course I want both Divinity and PoE! Of course I want them for $15, not $27!
  15. I don't mix up Thumbs voices but I thought it was Intern Dave the whole time so what do I know! A Fallout Shelter Vignette: *my brain* "Hey, people with high Charisma do better in my forced breeding internment program!" *drags two highest Charisma people to a dorm, they quickly baby it up* "Ok go back to your jobs what were you doing?" *realize they were both manning the radio booth because they had high charisma, and are put back there together* Is that awkward? Would they be pleased? I don't even know.
  16. I had two observations on your Fallout Shelter discussion. One, that it appears the gender ratio of your Dwellers is randomized. I've started multiple vaults on multiple devices, and had a full spectrum of men to women. Two, the game suggests that if you "properly" assign your Dwellers they gain happiness more quickly. If you zoom in on someone with a high matching SPECIAL stat to where they're assigned they'll make comments about being satisfied with their placement. I don't know if that has an impact beyond flavor text but it's implied.
  17. Hah I suppose what I meant to say is BECAUSE he's articulate and engaging, I understand why he's pursuing his PhD in this way. Because I didn't get that across well, it's a good thing I'm not pursuing it.

I finally beat all 4 levels of Crypt of the Necrodancer. What a good game. The difficulty curved appropriately, the levels had variety, the music owned. The last two boss fights were excellent. I was skeptical how the last one would be handled after it was introduced, but it was so good. I have beaten what amounts to the New Game+ mode now with Melody, and unlocked Aria. THAT IS A HARD MODE, HOLY SMOKES. Daily challenge still beats me up pretty badly.
  19. Is this a laugh at my comment, or at application for advanced degrees? He's a good writer and speaker, so I understand why he's pursuing education in that way.
  20. Sports

This is an important distinction- the labor actions taken in the last decade in the NHL were lockouts, not strikes. That means ownership initiated the action when a deal could not be reached, not the player's union. There has not been a player's strike in North America since the 1994-1995 MLB season was cut short. The NBA work stoppages were lockouts, the NFL threatened loss of games was a lockout, the replacement referee debacle in the NFL was a lockout. Clearly ownership is winning the media battle, because these just get referred to as strikes anyway.
  21. About every 10th comment on the chat stream is essentially "Wow Austin is the best I <3 him" right now. It makes me so happy to see that kind of thing. It is really obvious why he's a PhD candidate with the way he expresses himself.
  22. E3 2015

Does anyone know if there is something like a bullet point list of all the E3 announcements? I don't even need links or exposition or even anything fancier than plaintext, just a straight rundown of all the things that have appeared in press conferences. I would love to watch all of Giant Bomb's coverage from the past two days, but I unfortunately don't have the ten or so hours to watch it all. I feel like there's so much I've missed this year compared to the previous few years.

NOW THE TIME OF FEASTING IS AT HAND!

Did you play it on PC? I thought the mega textures were TERRIBLE. I played it on a decent computer at the time I bought it (not at launch, I think 2011?), and it seems like I'm the only one in the world for whom mega textures don't work. I would spin around in a canyon, and it was literally seconds at times to go from the low res textures to the high res textures. That game looked awful on PC.

I wish I could justify owning Nidhogg. :[
