  1. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

Thank you, that's like the most concise breakdown I've ever seen for the engineers. In typical Elite fashion, there's nowhere on the internet where it says in plain language that at least a few of them contact you right off the bat. I know, because I've been trying to figure out how it works for over a week.
  2. Mass Effect Andromeda - Thumb Drive Engaged!

Interesting, Bjorn. Coming at it from Gears of War 4 Horde mode, all I could think was "DAMN I wish this was Mass Effect instead." They're both fairly slow cover based shooters in a limited arena, but Gears you have Guns And That's It. No powers, no combos, you don't bring anything with you except a gun and what you pick up during the mission (which is more guns). It was a horrible grind, each match goes from 1-50 with absolutely no editing, and I missed having crazy space powers. Maybe I'll play some more ME3 if people are still playing it in the next 6 weeks.
  3. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I don't have Horizons, because for all the explaining in the world the Engineers completely mystify me. A bunch of thumbs have been talking about it/playing though, and having the conversations is really pushing me towards playing more and probably grabbing the expansions. And no, I don't have a fully A-rated Python. I don't have extra armor plating and I'm short on power plant. It's like a 100m credit ship instead of a 230m credit ship, but I don't really know how to make significant progress on making money anymore besides hard grinding RES.
  4. PC Gaming - Graphics and Performance

One thing I learned, about a year ago, 5 years too late to make a difference for my 2500K is that people thought RAM speed didn't matter with regard to stretching the life of your CPU. But they only thought that because people were testing new hardware in a way that their test setups were never CPU limited where that could make a difference. So I bought the fastest RAM anyone ever thought made a difference in 2011 or whenever it was, and I could have possibly stretched a few more months out of it if we'd all known better. This time around I bought faster RAM because people know it matters, so in theory faster RAM will actually help push the life of the CPU down the road.
  5. PC Gaming - Graphics and Performance

Echoing Beasteh, If you DO want to overclock, get a Z170 motherboard that fits your budget and is well supported/reviewed. If you DON'T want to overclock save the money and don't get a 6600K chip, get the non-K version. An SSD is an amazing upgrade you didn't realize you needed before you had it. I got the sense that they would be faster of course but not a crazy technological leap forward so amazing it would be worth waiting for them to release vs buying now (at least when I researched it last July). The sentiment might have changed now that it's a new calendar year. Can't give you more up to date info than that I'm afraid.
  6. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

It's definitely on Steam. I think it's in official 1.0 now? I feel the same way about Skyrim, but even more. That game's a billion years old, there's no reason it shouldn't have been launch. I mean, of course there are a billion development reasons but logistically for the health of the console it should have been March. I don't know if they're trying to spread the games out so either the lineup doesn't feel so painfully thin OR so that people will be less likely to say there aren't any releases coming down the pipe, but the software situation feels even more dire to me looking at that infographic. Actually the Eurogamer article rings very true to me - it seems like a solid piece of hardware for what it is, but negatively compromised in like 4 different directions in a way that's so uniquely Nintendo, and then no software for it. I don't think it's going to be able to breathe like the 3DS did to eventually become a real juggernaut after an absolute crisis at launch.
  7. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

yeah no dude, I just lost another 4 million fucking credits because 2 eagles took me down. It's ok to not answer, or just say "i don't know" to questions
  8. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

Help I reinstalled Elite yesterday. I'm asking for the sun and the moon and the stars here - Is there any place that has a list of all the things that were added for Horizons? I don't need in depth descriptions or annotated change logs or patch notes, I'm just looking for "Here is what you can do and exists in Horizons that you can't do in base" and then I can dig into that stuff on my own. A secondary question is, I got a python and reasonably outfitted it and at the time they made that AI change I could not even be in low danger RES sites without getting my ass absolutely HANDED to me. From cursory looks, it seems like people are saying "Get a combat ship to do combat". I am not sure I want to deal with the power juggling of a Vulture, but I have and can get the resources to field a smaller scale fighter for bounty hunting. I'm looking for a recommendation. Should I fit up a Viper again? Should I refit my Asp for combat instead of the now-dead long range smuggling? Should I get *something else*?
  9. I was definitely on the exact same Westworld trajectory as you all, but the last few episodes of the season definitely pulled it out of what could have been a catastrophic tailspin. I think they could have done the same composition of the world and the plot without some of the storytelling elements that were plainly unnecessary, but questions were answered and motives were explained in a way that satisfied me and made me interested in continuing to watch. So I end up disagreeing that it ended up overall being Bad Robot, but I'm also not in the same orbit of prestige television as you thumbs.
  10. AGDQ 2017

Batman Forever was bad in exactly the good way you'd want.
  11. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

You're playing two of my favorite games as a teenager back to back and your reaction is shocking me. You definitely should be able to deflect blasters with the lightsaber. I remember being essentially unkillable in the back third of the game, and it was more about how to force ballet your way through the game.
  12. She's working at Arkane, so think of her when you hear the incidental dialogue in Dishonored 2, or perhaps the cup dialogue in Prey.
  13. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I was convinced a non-bothans line was in A New Hope during the planning phase after they retrieve the death star plans, but I will grant that it's only my memory and I might have been filling in the dialogue myself.
  14. I was less annoyed that they were saying it, and more annoyed that they just left it at that. "It doesn't hang with WHAT?" is what I would rhetorically ask my phone. Titanfall 2 would have probably won for me in many years. It's a great game that I keep playing. Maybe not last year, the Witcher inspired near-DOOM levels of enthusiasm in me, but definitely the year before.
  15. In november I predicted 1. Doom, 2. Hitman, 4. Overwatch and 5. Titanfall 2 with the Witness on the list somewhere (with some hot mover jumping to 3 on the list), so this was weirdly something of a foregone conclusion to me. Obviously I didn't actually get those bang on correct, but if you hadn't listened to their deliberations and had just asked it has the air of believability. The way they selected the list made it seem like somewhat of a foregone conclusion to them as well.
  16. He was also against that choice so that in some ways probably bolsters his argument. I don't agree, but I could see how you get there.
  17. I thought HLD was a good to very good game that asked you to be pixel perfect but didn't hold up its end of the bargain. It was so close to being incredible but just didn't get there. The Palmer Luckey thing rang true to me. I know people have been on GB for not always being as progressive as they'd like to present, but having followed the site since 2010 they have made a lot of strides forward towards inclusivity and also for saying so out loud. Not all the time, but when things happen that need to be commented on they do so. I'm sure there are plenty of literal kids in the audience for them, but they don't seem interested in trucking with that kind of behavior. Now hire a lady. I also thought it was a crazy travesty that Doom didn't win GOTY, for them specifically. If it literally just had a single player it would have glory killed its way past any argumentation, but because id included multiplayer which was Just OK (not terrible) and snap map which is legitimately ambitious but doesn't quite hit the mark, there's somehow animosity even though they unanimously agree the campaign is the best FPS in literal decades. It ended up as #1 on either 3 or 4 of their personal lists. It's a very weird thing.
  18. AGDQ 2017

I would kind of love to see a full play of HLD rather than a speed run. There is obviously SO MUCH stuff I haven't seen even though I beat that game with more than the minimum necessary. The speed run will also be fascinating, but there are so many mysteries.
  19. AGDQ 2017

I'd agree for the most part. The skill of standing right between two textures or doing frame perfect walking forward out of bounds or freezing a menu to make a finite item infinite is more or less "invisible" skill that has to be experienced to fully appreciate. The glitch runs I appreciate most are the goofy stuff in between when there are 5 minutes to kill like the Mario Warp glitch trick or literally loading the ending of the game into memory by standing in the right block in Super Metroid.
  20. If anyone listens to MBMBAM (it is another podcast, there is more than one!) Griffin (and me by extension) is constantly horrified that there are ads that imply current TV stars have died who are clearly not dead. It's really extremely very gross.
  21. I can't follow you down that suck hole. That seems consistent with how Dan does things. With enthusiasm but no fluidity. It turns out I like Stardew Valley in the context of someone playing it and Vinny goading them on!
  22. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

They also allude to the desperation of getting the Death Star info in A New Hope, it's just not That One Line.
  23. AGDQ 2017

Ooh DOOM should be very cool. I saw a dude who routed any% nightmare inside of 90 minutes within the week it came out, so that's going to be absolutely fascinating. Looks like they have an interesting Ori run potentially set up based on Bid War. I'm also curious to see Salt and Sanctuary because I bounced off that game so hard. e: oh SNAP this is happening in the same place that SmashCon was in the summer. This is close enough I'm entertaining thoughts of going for a day.
  24. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Oh I see! Very cool, carry on!
  25. Dan has the worst voice of anyone I've ever heard in my life who was singing earnestly. I agree with Brad, I was excited to have some Top 10 positivity, but they ended up having a teeny-tiny list and were struggling to add games to it on the third pass. I know it gets cutthroat but I like games being recognized, which is why I like what Alex does and goes to bat for their moment in the sun before being removed. I did think Alex's strategy of recognizing rather than fighting ended up biting him in the ass multiple times, but when I asked him on Twitter he said that wasn't the feeling in the room. He was there and I wasn't! I wasn't a huge fan of the yearbook stuff. I had to do extra work to explicitly avoid the fanfiction, there wasn't much substance (which is frankly what I go to waypoint to get), and I didn't like that.
