Wake Me Up Before You IndieGoGo: A Crowdfunding Thread
osmosisch replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
The only Kickstarter I've been genuinely burned one so far is the Clang one. Besides that, I backed Unwritten: That Which Happened but I can't feel too bad about losing that pledge because, well, life just up and took a big ol' dump on that guys. -

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

There's nothing particularly interesting in the lava except a pyromancy as I recall. But if you insist, to get the items in the lava you need to get wet (roll through one of the water urns or a pool of water) and cast Flash Sweat. Popping a big lifegem beforehand also helps. Unmodified fire resistance won't cut it.- 1284 replies

I think there's no other game series where I would probably welcome the loss of a save file because I enjoy the moment-to-moment process and power arc so much.

You can buy into as much of the mess as you like, really. Most of the bullshit is optional. I just thought I'd highlight the parts I like. It's also not PvP in the sense that you can do anything directly to other players - it's all strictly via the territory.

Ingress just came out on iOS! I found it to be a pretty entertaining excuse to leave the house while I was leveling, and now it's also a great way to find interesting out-of-the-way monuments and such that you might never have heard of otherwise.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
osmosisch replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
It's an interesting question, I think. Both games start you off with a "quest' - ring two bells/gather four souls. Then there's a bunch of exploration/boss killing while you get that sorted. Both involve regular recrossings of your own path, but in 2's case it's only really by teleporting to Majula constantly rather than finding out how areas interconnect. I wonder whether beginning to understand that interconnectedness leads to a more general feeling of knowledge about the world. The core paths are structured differently for sure - 1 starts more linear, branches out towards the end and then contracts to a single point again. 2 Begins more diffuse and becomes almost entirely linear after that. 1: 2 bells -> sen's -> Londo -> 4 great souls -> Gwyn 2: 4 great souls -> drangleic -> amana/crypt -> Aldia/Dragon aerie/shrine -> memory -> Nashandra I think 2's greatest offenses in lack of direction both involve the Ashen Mist Heart. Realising that it interacts with the fallen giants and/or that you need to talk to the Queen to be told about it isn't very obvious. Then, realising that having slain the Giant Lord will add an extra boss to the Throne of Want is also not trivial. Overall the lack of a Frampt in 2 who is easily available and clearly tells you what to do is probably the largest difference. The Emerald Herald and Ancient Dragon are too cryptic (must be a dragon blood thing) and the Queen too out-of-the-way.- 1284 replies

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
osmosisch replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
"Without knowing the reason why" is one of the game's core themes, so I find the vagueness to be forgivable in that sense, though it clearly isn't the most approachable game design.- 1284 replies

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics
osmosisch replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
The Arena bug bit me again. It's just so relaxing to do alongside things like watching the International. It's amazing what a difference a few days of practice has made. Going from 55% to 65% winrate isn't too shabby, not to mention nice because it keeps me gold-even for now while I improve further. Pretty happy that there's tracking websites for this sort of thing now: http://www.arenavalue.com/u/osmosisch -
Haha, that cracked me up

I can't speak for co-op, but the battle system is utterly normal. Think Fallout. There's a lot of depth to the skills and how they interact though, like making someone wet makes it easier to shoot them with lightning and the like.

At least I'm getting more hours for my entertainment dollar! 3,214.7 hours on record / 27.1 hours last two weeks This account is worth $4579.22. If all games were bought on sale, it would be $1629.24.

As far as I'm aware the masculine version is Gary Stu. Given that a player character is almost by definition a self-insert in a fictional universe, the concept will always apply except in cases such as the Witcher, where a pre-defined character is being piloted.

I've been enjoying the heck out of this although the cost on skill books is making me super paranoid about my choices early in. Gorgeous, old-school and fun so far though. Plus opening containers gives you a container window shaped like the thing you opened which is awesome.

Sure, I'll play your game, you rogue. Is there a version with fixed hands yet? They're weirding me out a bit.

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze

Well he did play space oddity during the kerbal stream. -
Great posts Bjorn. It's definitely an interesting take on things. I wonder what makes me so much less willing in this game to invest mental energy in figuring things out than in the Souls games. I'm still inclined to blame the (to me) irritating flow of combat and media res nature of the story from the beginning.

I'm in Poland then; if you make it one week later I'm back and might be able to wrangle a day off from being a family man. Are we thinking evening or daytime? If it's late I'll need a place to crash, though I might be able to arrange something with friends in Amersfoort.

I get about a booster every two weeks, with an eligible list of ~ 50 and level 21.
