  1. The thickness of the fingers relative to the rest of the world seems too high to me. That could be a matter of expectations though. There's cartoons where it's much worse, but the beauty and realism of the world makes the cartoonishness of the hands stand out to me in a slightly jarring fashion. I've never really thought about it before this but I guess to me there's a subtle but present difference or continuum between cartoonishness and stylisation. To me they look good - just a bit out of place. I'm also pretty sure that once I sit down and play the game it won't bother me for very long.
  2. The Math Thread

Yes, this usually is the convention.
  3. I think regardless of the discussion in general terms, we can all agree that we have great faith that Campo Santo gives these things the consideration they deserve
  4. Life

I don't see how a tank would help here.
  5. Hedgefield, you're doing exactly what Tegan was trying to point out is kind of gross behaviour.
  6. Inspirational Curiousities

That means you know about the strandbeesten right? http://www.strandbeest.com
  7. A Song Of Ice And Fire

His short stories and novellas are almost all excellent, arguably better than his long-form fiction because they don't get so top-heavy. This collection is great.
  8. Idle Interviews #2 Chris Remo (Musician, designer)

Man, every time I visit Chris' wiki page there's a new terrible picture up.
  9. Consider Phlebas

I think Use of Weapons is usually the recommended starting point to the Culture books. It's definitely one of my favourites. Phlebas doesn't even register in my memory somehow, though I've read it at least twice by now. I revisit the Culture books every so often, it's a nice place to be.
  10. Seeing the Accidental Saviour in there made me smile. Not a huge fan of those fat fingers but the rest of the game looks and sounds gorgous.
  11. Idle Food - Cooking!

That last picture made me vicariously very happy. Wonderful!
  12. Weddings

We have such fond memories of our wedding weekend. Because things are so much cheaper in Poland we could afford to rent a holiday complex for a weekend to have all our friends and family in one convenient place. Wonderful. http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/673561
  13. Photos of things

The Galaxy Nexus. I'm super pleased with its camera. I've been taking a picture a day for quite some time now. http://www.blipfoto.com/dr The day after I got the new phone I immediately got to capture one of my favourite shots: http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2497729
  14. Feminism

It's my honest opinion of what you were doing in this thread looked like to me. Take that as you will.
  15. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

Huh. A well-done Let's Play is a wonderful thing in my opinion. There's a tone of great ones running on the SA forums. I'm sure there's a ton of dross out there too, but that goes for any field.
  16. Feminism

Kind of tangential to this, but I recently caught myself thinking that, when raising my daughters, I found myself hoping that they won't get into 'girly' things so much. Mainly because I can't relate to it very well, but also because I noticed that when I didn't think about it, I saw them as inferior to more 'boyish' things. It's really scary how deeply this kind of garbage is ingrained.
  17. Feminism

Frankly, it reads to me like someone trying to derail the thread through concern/noise trolling.
  18. Man, so sad I missed it. On the bright side, the aannemer seems competent so we may actually have a bathroom when we move in
  19. Guys, I'm afraid I have to bail! We just bought a house & are super busy arranging stuff with constructors etc. and one of them only had time this saturday for a meeting
  20. Life

Man, that sucks. Hang in there.
  21. Photos of things

Found this guy in my brother-in-law's garden today. He let me get close enough with my phone to get this.
  22. Life

I was really enjoying duolingo but they do the gamifying thing where it tracks your streak, and I broke mine which caused me to not feel like doing it for a while. So yeah, that backfired I guess.
  23. I'd estimate that this manoeuvre was caused by the Google takeover. They've been doing this sort of thing on Youtube for ages now, right? The archive thing is baffling at first sight but that too could be a Google move, to more clearly delineate their brands (twitch for streaming, yt for watching archived things)
  24. I think the first step is admitting to yourself that the game is not as simple as it seems because otherwise it wouldn't be possible to be really good at it. I was in a similar situation a while back and what solved it for me was watching a bunch of good streamers such as Trump, Hafu, Guardsman Bob and the like. It didn't hugely elevate my play but it definitely led to me appreciating the level of potential skill in the game.
