Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
cyrix replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I am heavily considering picking up the PS3 version just to sell it on next month when the PC version comes along. I really don't like missing these early days. I'm trying to run Demons souls for the first time to ease the pain, but I think it's just making it worse. I was actually in a Walmart around midnight last night for some groceries (I know they're terrible but they're the only place open past 10pm around here) and there just happened to be an employee helping a guy in the game section as I was passing by so I had to take the opportunity. I was ready to buy it but they didn't have in copies in the display and the guy said that was everything in stock. it's probably for the best...- 1284 replies

Basically, but fair enough. Sadly they are also seemingly the most rare switch by far and never seem to be available on widely produced boards. I would love to have one of these, http://codekeyboards.com/ , with clears. Sadly it's too rich for my blood, and after the initial manufacturing run I don't think they have ever gotten enough to do another run of clears. Though according to the site there it seems like they might be doing a new run soon, man it sucks being poor.

The bumps on the browns are almost imperceptible in normal typing and gaming, it just gives you a little tell of where the actuation point is. You can get switch samplers from various places if you want to try them out. I think I would try to find blacks (they don't seem to just make a heavier brown) if I could afford a new one right now. http://www.cmstore-usa.com/mechanical-key-switch-demo-board/ http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-keyboard-keycap-cherry-mx-switch-o-ring-sampler-kit.html

I'm currently typing on a CM storm rapid with cherry mx brown switches. My thoughts: I'm never buying a keyboard without a 10-key ever again. I really miss it :'( I really like the tactile feel of mechanical keys I wish i had gone for keys with a heavier actuation weight, these browns are actually lighter than rubber dome. I would absoulutley recommend a mech but be sure about what switch you want before you buy, and get a full size

I was curious about this, and a little searching shows what I suspected; the nominations are decided by people from respective fields but the final voting is one giant pool of all academy members. So while I agree those quotes show a gross and willful ignorance of what they are voting on, they are not specifically animation judges so it makes more sense. http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/movies/2014/03/01/who-votes-for-academy-awards/Fxc03bpUkPv4VvjsXlnwPM/story.html And a little credit where it's due, most of the people (4/7) quoted in that article abstained from voting, including the especially flippant person you quoted. So at worst they just aren't helping anyone. The biggest thing this article and resultant reading has told me is that the academy probably needs to rethink they way they handle voting nowadays, or shed some categories.

Adjustable FOV should be federal law. But really if you are at all confused or curious about FOV and why it might help, check out these videos: to skip the lead in on this first video jump to about 1:13

Man I loved pokemon snap... Actually the Giant bomb guys (especially the late Ryan Davis) kept talking about a new PS game, first around the 3DS, then on the Wii U. It really does make a ton of sense. Talk about a game that "justifies" the use of the gamepad.

That sounds a lot like the Westwood Blade Runner game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_(1997_video_game) That said I would totally buy it.

I can see what you mean about the robot screen, i just got this idea in my head about puzzles that required multiple robots to solve and such that I was looking forward too. I had 19/20 at what was obviously the end too, so I looked up a list, the one I missed was in As for the Totally, which is why those weird cutscenes are so disappointing. They were so close to nailing it completely. I hope it came across in my first post but I do fully recommend this game I really enjoyed the majority of it.

Two words: Professor Layton. Everyone loves it. After beating curious village the first time right after it launched I immediately pushed my DS into my (completely VG Illiterate) Mom's hands cause I knew it was special. She beat it in less than a week. I was super happy at first that she was having such a great time, then she asked for more and I had to break her heart. She was so sad. And there in lies the only problem with Layton, there is kinda nothing else quite like it. it's (especially curious village) such a perfect mix of charm, and sincerity. Wrapped in such a beautifully simple art, and game play (in terms of the interaction involved). It's a shame really. I've been thinking about trying to get my dad to play some games as of late. He's a sports guy so that seemed an obvious starting point, but I'm really not a fan of simulation sports games (unless you count racing). Thought I would give Blood Bowl (PC) a shot, watched some videos of people playing and such and it seemed like enough of a link to football to catch him while being interestingly different as a game. That game is fucking impenetrable. The tutorial is almost useless, it actually ends, without even close to explaining enough to set up or run a team, by referring you to the rule book for the tabletop game it's based on. I guess it is a niche title, but come on. Real glad I didn't try to figure that game out with him there, probably would have scared him away forever. When you are talking about "true" non-gamers I think the biggest obstacle is the controller. I bet if you had started your wife on Spelunky with a USB SNES pad it would have been much less confusing/intimidating for her. Modern controllers are scary, complicated, specialized instruments to a layman. This is a big part of why the Wii found such a huge untapped market, in fact I bet there are some games there that would make good starters. Never owned one though so I can't really speak to it.

I'm just gonna quote my 3DS thread post cause I'm lazy.

Finished Starship Damrey last night. Fun little game with a cool initial conceit (controlling the robots from a cryopod), but it does end up kinda not delivering on the promise of the robot selection screen which teases like 10 robots, but you only ever really control one. This gets explained a bit in the endgame narrative, but it's still disappointing. The cutscenes starring the robot are really at odds thematically with the rest of the game. Why they thought making them super comical was a good idea I don't understand, it really undermines the tone of the narrative and game play sections. If they had played the game more straight up horror I think they could have had something really special. Also I think they game would have been better with more restrictive movement kinda Grimrock style, that or a way to strafe. Too many times I would be going down a corridor and turn say left for a door only to be a step short and staring half at a wall and half at the door, turn right move forward one tick, turn left again to use the door. That's shitty. Still for the 3 bucks I paid for it it was absolutely worth the price.
