  2. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Yeah, this final season especially really suffered from the sudden rush the series found itself in. This is a popular image that's been going around, and I agree except for the fact that it's too generous to season 5:

  5. The Cutdown - Episodes 1, 2, 3 discussion!

Enjoying the pod so far! Looking forward to episode 3 That Ultraviolet trailer is something. I too have never seen the film, but am now tempted to check it out to see what it is actually like. The music feels like the movie should have come out in 1999 instead of 2006, though? The visuals kind of remind me of the Wachowski's Speed Racer, especially the bright colors and the shot of the motorcycle ride at around the 50s mark. Also, @Ben X if you search youtube for "jem 24 ultraviolet" you will not be(?) disappointed in the surprising array of fan cut music videos. This feels of a certain era of the internet.
  6. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Ok as I read the start of this page by Cbirdsong, I think the exact saame can be said by this season, but now it’s worse because the production value is also somehow used in the wrong places, at least in the finale.

  8. This is a great idea for a 'cast, I look forward to working my way through these! Hopefully I can steal some talking points for when I'm whinging online about the latest show-everything trailer, too. That Ultraviolet trailer is great, in a kind of music video way - I'm not sure I could handle a whole movie at that visual intensity..! The things I thought brought it down a bit were the introduction of Voiceover Guy partway through and that thudding conversation with the British guy.
  9. Hi everyone! We covered a lot in these first three episodes, but I'd love to hear about some of your favorite movie or game trailers, and what makes them your favorite. Another favorite of mine is the trailer for the film Ultraviolet (which I've still never watched). It falls into the camp of trailers-where-Milla-Jovovich-introduces-herself-in-voiceover. I think it has great ramping up and down of fast and slow motions, good hits in sync with the music, and a wide variety of colors and compositions. I also love the final music cue. It received abysmal reviews, so maybe it's one of those situations where the material made a better trailer than a movie.

  12. I Wish I Could(n't) Quit You: Video Games that Just Don't Click

Admittedly I think I'd love if the Wii U supported an instant-on save state but I've found that after about 25 hours, my sessions average an hour or so at a time, so something is clearly working for me! Am concerned at the growing list of quests that I don't know if I'll ever be bothered to attempt. But I love the freedom that gives me.
  13. Been out of the loop recently as I don't have a good podcast habit anymore (no more commute), but has to come back for this episode. Really cool discussion guys. I'm basically of the same mind as you - there were bits I liked, bits I was disappointed with but overall I had a fun time and are looking forward to seeing how they built on it. I weighted my disappointed more in my own review though because I really felt that it wasn't unreasonable to want a bit better from this game - even from a launch state. Like I was very disappointed with how Rome was handled, by and large, and there was a noticeable lack of character. Good stuff!
  14. I love the idea of being able to play in bite size chunks on the go. But as someone who lives in the suburbs with no access to public transportation and works in an office in the middle of nowhere I'm forced to drive everywhere so portability is just not a factor for me.
  15. Arrowverse (DC/CW shows): Arrow, The Flash, etc.

I forgot that was a thing. As a concept I'm glad its going to exist but I'm just not really interested in getting back into that universe.
  16. Good episode. I'm waiting for UI improvements mostly and thus not playing the game. But I consider it a good game, probably on par with EU4. Sad to see a lot of negativity about it among the public.
  17. Free Music Resource - Over 1800 Tracks

Hi everyone, Here’s a brand new music track for you: On my City/Urban page: ON THE PROWL WITH CAPED CRUSADER CAT – Wandering the midnight streets, searching for wrong-doers. https://soundimage.org/city-urban-2/ I’m also working to build up the ambience section of my site…so here are some cool new ambiences on my AMB - Sci-Fi Ambience page: MACHINE DREAMS – I wonder what it’s dreaming about? This might sound nice to create an eerie, weird-feeling environment or situation. MYSTERIOUS AMBIENCE – This one might work for an alien underwater environment…or perhaps something else. https://soundimage.org/amb-sci-fi-ambience/ If you find my work helpful, please consider making a donation to my website. The synthesizers I use to create the music and sounds that I share with everyone are very expensive…so expensive, in fact, that I have to make monthly payments on them…and donations really help me a lot to pay for them. Thanks in advance…and please feel free to share your projects…I love to see how creative people are using my work!

Judging from the clip of Aladdin I saw, Will Smith could really have used that new sound.
  19. Anyone else bugged by Rob's pronunciation "Em-per-rat-er?" I always thought it was "Em-peer-a-tor" Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe it's regional, or maybe it's common mistake vs knowledgeable nerd. Don't know
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Ah, that does, thank you! I knew that there would be some rather big differences, but I kind of assumed he'd given them his definite set-in-stone endpoint. Would be great if it were completely different (though not just for the sake of it). And in his latest blog he gives the New Zealand tourism board permission to imprison him in a small cabin until he's finished AWOW if he doesn't have it published in time for his Summer 2020 visit there, so I choose to believe he will definitely have it done by then! Then, what, another 5 years for ADOS?
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

On a different note, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the new Aladdin movie. Though I will say the Prince Ali song made me laugh out loud, because at the start Will Smith wears a headdress so voluminous all I could think about was that underneath he had the same hair as Rudi van der Saniel.

If it makes you feel better, Martin's said that the endgame that he gave to Benioff and Weiss was just one possible outcome, so any resemblance to the books that'll hopefully come out someday will probably be only passing.
  23. At least the food isn't a survival mechanism. It's basically just a health refill, plus maybe a temporary boost to some stats. But yeah, I get it. One nice thing about the Switch for me has been the portability and the system-level mandate that games support preserving their state when you put the console to sleep. It makes it easier to play things for a little bit at a time.
  24. Thank you very much for the information! I'll be looking into those links.
  25. The thing I feel like would turn me off is all the additional systems in the game I'd have to deal with, like weather and food and gear. On paper they might sound interesting but in almost every game that has them I end up annoyed rather than entertained. I mean you could also be totally right but these days my time and budget are limited so I'm much less willing to risk getting something on the chance I'd like it and stick to something I have fewer reservations about.
  26. I thought it was fun to do nonlethally, I always enjoy having a limited toolset and finding the one weak point that lets you exploit them. The worst bit is when you leave someone snoozing and then they fall 10cm and die, or rats get them, and the game doesn't tell you. That's the only reason I didn't get ghost on the first game. I did get it on the later ones where there's an indicator that you fucked up somewhere.
  27. Aw, thanks Hopefully at some point in the future either you'll get a PC or it will come out on other platforms! Additional news: episode 2 of our awful 'cast is now up, same link as before!
  28. Movie/TV recommendations

The Veep series finale was phenomenal. Miles better than Game Of Thrones, too (definitely regretting my decision to move back to the show instead of waiting for the books now).
  29. Marvel movies

Oh damn, sorry, I meant to mention that we had previously decided it made sense to keep that thread to Netflix only, but obviously my attention wandered! Makes sense to keep it in here, I reckon, rather than start a bunch of tiny non-Netflix Marvel tv show threads...
