Renegade X - Command & Conquer / Battlefieldy / Free (not F2P!)

Recommended Posts

I hope I'm not the only one here who fell in love with C&C Renegade back in the day! These devs are legally obligated to make no money on this remake so it will be completely free to try out and enjoy. It would be fun to get readers together to play it :)

Renegade X is a free Tactical Shooter that aims to brings the Command and Conquer FPS experience to the Unreal Engine 3. Players will be able to join up to 64-players and fight for two unique teams - the Global Defense Initiative (GDI), a UN international military force committed to world order and peacekeeping, and the Brotherhood of Nod, a messianic international terrorist network that aims to push humanity into the next stage of human evolution.

Originally set to be remake of Westwood Studios' "Comamnd and Conquer: Renegade", Renegade X has evolved into a spiritual successor to the 2002 classic. Renegade X recreates and modernizes the game's unmatched multiplayer mode.

The objective of the game is to destroy your enemy's base while protecting your own. Players will be able to manage their own economies, choose from over 30 weapons, 15 vehicles, and call in nuclear strikes, Ion Cannons, and airstrikes, and much more. Each team will have a base of operations that composes of several key structures. Each structure has its own purpose.

We believe that this gamemode - "Command & Conquer Mode" - can potentially revolutionize the FPS genre. It is the gem that went unnoticed for many years. Now is the time to uncover it.

The Renegade X multiplayer beta will be released on February 26th, 2014.

I enjoyed Renegade up to the mission on the ship where I was able to kill the captain before I was meant to.

I totally played C&C: Renegade online way back when. The solo game was trash, it really was, but the multiplayer was colossally underappreciated. It was great having a team working together to grease the operations of a C&C base. You had people running around keeping the power and the defenses up and running, making sure the harvester does its runs without being harassed or destroyed, and then spending their partition of the team's currency pool on vehicles and player classes.

I've been following this fan remake with a curious eye for a while. I don't know if it's a game i want to go back and play more of, but i think it's cool that they're doing it.

I'm getting randy for Renegades! Only two days until the open beta launches...

elmuerte, if you didn't play the multiplayer part of Renegade you really missed out.

Sno, I think it's worth trying out. It has a unique combination of gameplay elements, and I spent a lot of time with the old game because of how many different ways you could play it.

I'm pretty excited for this. I played the old multiplayer beta a couple years ago, but it was still in pretty rough shape and sadly underpopulated. Renegade was my first online FPS experience though, and I'll always love the mechanic of finding paths to sneak a nod buggy past a guard tower and nuke a building. One of gaming's greatest memories.

Maybe there will be a chance of getting some thumbs together to play?

Got to play a little bit over the last two days. This is a fantastic remake of Renegade multiplayer. It reminded me what was great about the game that other large-scale combat games like Planetside 2 have failed to capture: because there is only a single map, it has focus. There is no downtime. I completely suck, but I've still been having fun.

I do think that the 64 player cap is probably too much. I know they never had enough beta testing to see how it held up with 64, and it feels very hard to progress since the maps tend to have 3-4 choke points which are always flooded with people. Some of the added mechanics also need balancing. Air strikes in particular seem to benefit the winning team and be nearly useless for the losing team.

I really do love it, people should check it out.

Yeah, I've enjoyed it as well. I bet the game is more balanced with a player cap of 32 and I hope more servers run with that eventually. Airstrikes are very annoying as well!

I had a game where GDI had only our barracks and weapons factory, leaving our whole team starved for credits since everything cost twice as much and we had no harvester income. NOD had every buidling and yet somehow we were able to outscore them and survive until the end of the match (which I felt drug on too long but oh well). It was fun, but the NOD couldn't possible finish us off with GDI swarming around the base repairing buildings and defusing nuclear strike beacons. I wonder what sort of coordination it would take a team of 32 to finish off another team like that...
