Looking for a particular film

Recommended Posts

I watched this film that was supposed to be Mosquito Coast when I was about 9 or 10, except it wasn't. It was a cheaply made Vietnam exploitation flick where a group of American soldiers go into Vietnam (at the time it seemed to be so they could blow a whole load of shit up) and get picked off one by one as they go through a bunch of set pieces. The whole thing was done with the kind of gusto low rent Italian directors were used to churning out in the 70's and 80's (think original Inglorious Bastards)

The thing is, when my parents realised they had let me watch this hyper-violent film they never let me watch again. The imagery from this film has stuck with me over the years, I can remember entire scenes from the film but I will be damned if I know the name.

Does anyone know a good website where I could write down everything I remember about the film (one of the first characters to get killed is called Stone, they meet up with this missionary dude who gets crucified etc) in the hope that someone can solve the mystery for me? For awhile I thought it was The Last Hunter, I watched the trailer on Youtube and it most certainly isn't.

I know someone is going to suggest I google it but I tried that already and the search brought me to IMDB which isn't great.

The opening of the film starts with a bunch of men in gillie suits sweeping a jungle briefly before jumping on a helicopter, the 'heroes' then emerged from the shadows.

There was some kind of conflict between the captain of the squad and this dude who looked like he generally played russian characters in Chuck Norris Movies.

The whole team go on a night assault on an enemy base and one of the team members (a chronic drinker) is shot and patched up by one of the Vietnamese team members, they leaev him behind as a result.

They pick up an American woman at that same base and one dude noted that she needle marks all down her arm.

They assault a larger base with one of the guys carrying a heavy machine gun under arm and the explosives expert 'Stone' getting wounded.

After that I can't remember the exact chronological order of events (it was 20 years ago) but I think they went something like this:

At that point they take refuge in a church and leave Stone with the Priest there while they go off and do something else that I can't remember (I think they had to rescue a chopper pilot who looked a little like Lee Van Cleef or Sam Elliot). When they return the church is in ruins and the lead goes 'Stone' (hence why the character's name is so vividly stuck in my head).

Stone is dead and the priest was crucified.

They attack a train and one of the members is shot while setting up the explosives he starts bleeding from his mouth as he setups a derail and gets blown up with the train.

They then attack another base and one of ther vietnamese members attempts to find a path through a minefield. It was sort of implied that he has some kind of sixth sense for it but he ends up blowing himself up.

The guy who usually plays Russians, I think, is then hunting down the team (the drunk dude who was wounded comes back in a hover craft and this annoys the Russian guy), I cannot remember why.

Anyway, there are only the pilot, the American woman, some badass with a heavy machinegun and the captain left. They find a helicopter but a surrounded by the Russian dude and his team. The helicopter will only carry three for some reason, but the badass guy sacrifices himself.

The last image is of the Russian guy trying to destroy the helicopter with a flame thrower but failing and instead getting himself surrounded and then consumed by the fire.

EDIT: The guy I thought was the russian guy in Chuck Norris films is this guy:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0528433/

I searched through most of his films from the 80's and 90's but I couldn't find anything that looked right.
