Tanukitsune Posted June 24, 2010 Play.com WAS like a paradise to me, I could buy brand new games on the release date on a price I'd have to wait ages for in my country! And they has so many games at the price I'm used to pay for, which is 20-30€, not to mention the shipping is FREE! Every single game I've purchased was made here, that is... until now... Recently, they added Verisign security for credit card purchases, which would be a good thing, right? Nope! Ever since they force you to use your Verisign password, I haven't been able to purchase a single game from them, simply because it doesn't work with my credit card! Every single time, they ask for my password and... it returns to the previous screen, it doesn't say that the password was wrong, it doesn't say that it failed to connect to the bank, it simply seems to ignore the verification process! I've tried calling them, but their phone number doesn't seem to work for non-UK phones and in email they keep saying it's my bank's fault, who say it's their fault, but frankly, I'm on the banks side and I'm positive it's the sites fault... I've tried someone else's card and it worked, so I know it's not my PC, but I'm at a loss on what to do next... I could: -Change banks to get a new credit card? Too drastic! -Change shops? I've yet to find one as cheap as Play.com, Amazon is cheap, but once you add the shipping, it's only free to UK residents, I might as well buy the game from the retail shop on day one... -Buy used? Even used games are more expensive that NEW Play.com games. Also, I hate buying used games unless I really have to. The last "new" game I played was Super Mario Galaxy 2, but I bought that on day one because Nintendo no longer drops the prices of their games, not counting that and digital downloads, I haven't bought a "new" game (as in not used) since late March! Kolzig Posted June 24, 2010 I dislike play.com these days because of the stupid fixed exchange rate for EUR which never changes and is always at least few euros higher than the actual current exchange rate between GBP and EUR. That's called cheating and nobody is doing anything to stop them, it's been going on for the past couple of years already. Indeed play.com used to be a paradise for European customers, but that was around the 2002-2007 era.
Tanukitsune Posted June 24, 2010 It's still a paradise for me, in Spain we only have Game where new games cost almost 70€... They'd cost 52 at Play.com! Where do you get your games then?
Kolzig Posted June 24, 2010 I don't buy that many *new* games anymore, my sources are mostly used/on sale games for Wii from auction sites/shops and for PC stuff that I can find from Steam... Play.com is still a lot cheaper than regular shops in Finland, but I really don't like the way they are cheating the non-UK customers with the fixed exchange rate. Tanukitsune Posted June 24, 2010 I consider discounted games as "new" since they aren't used, I'm used to buying those 70€ games when they cost 30€, 20€ or less even! I only buy them on release date when it's something that needs support. There will always be new Silent Hill games, but games like 3D Dot Game Heroes so need all the help they can get.... elmuerte Posted June 24, 2010 Recently I've been buying stuff from thehut.com , they are quite often cheaper than play.com, but they do have shipping costs.
Tanukitsune Posted June 24, 2010 It says... 99p per item? That sounds good to me! I think I'll give it a go!
