HPopper Posted August 4, 2010 Is everyone else still doing stuff as well? It's hard to tell with this kind of game.
toblix Posted August 4, 2010 Yeah, I'm also wondering about that. I'm still playing, although I've fallen behind it seems.
SuspectKitten Posted August 5, 2010 I'm still playing, although I quite literally forgot about it for a few weeks, and then logged in today and see I am winning.. haha. So either you're all rubbish or warring or everyone else has forgotten too but didn't set up a bunch of advance actions like I did lol. But, as I said before, this game will take quite literally, years, to play out. So a few forgotten weeks doesn't really have much impact unless you're at war. I'm just checking in every week or two, unless like just now, I forget
toblix Posted August 20, 2010 Okay, I've moved the server off-site, so it should be up 24/7 now. PM me for the new address. I'm thinking that, if people are still interested, we could restart with less ridiculous settings. What do you think?
Sleepdance Posted August 20, 2010 I'd agree, though I somewhat forgot to play this game for about a month.
toblix Posted August 24, 2010 I'm sorry! I give up! I just can't run the pitboss server anymore. For some reason, it's been acting up the same way on three different machines, and I can't trust it to run a day without freezing, forcing me to restart it and lose all progress since I last saved. It's too much work, especially since everyone seems to agree that we'll never actually get anywhere at the current pace. If someone else wants to try hosting a game, I'm up for it, but apparently I don't have access to hardware that will run it.
SuspectKitten Posted August 26, 2010 Aw, well, well done for trying, it was fun whilst it lasted I don't have any hardware here I'm afraid, but I'm up for a game on Bank Holiday Monday if anyone else is, at "normal" pace, ie, hope to get the game done in that day? It's a four - six hour commitment I'd say. But I'm game if anyone else is. I don't check in here much, so email me on thayer at thayer prime dot com (no spaces, and turn the symbol words into symbols) if you're interested.
toblix Posted August 26, 2010 I'd be in if I had the day off.
HPopper Posted September 18, 2010 I'm sorry! I give up! Even though it didn't work out, thanks for hosting anyway! Civ V is out next week and I'd imagine folks will be looking to try out multiplayer. (I know I will.) It does not ship with PBEM, hotseat, or Pitboss support, but maybe that's a good thing. This experiment seems to have shown that the game takes too long (people forget about it) and the logistics are too convoluted. Perhaps, like SuspectKitten suggests, it'd be better to do a "normal" multiplayer session of several hours during a specific day. Like, have a standing appointment at 17:00GMT one Saturday per month or something. Who else is getting Civ V?
toblix Posted September 18, 2010 I'm getting it, and I'm definitely up for trying out "real" multiplayer.
Orv Posted September 22, 2010 So, I just captured my first city in Civ 5 and the game went into explode-mode. But I'm up for MP whenever.
HPopper Posted September 23, 2010 What's a good day for people to spend 4-6 hours or so on Civ? Keep in mind the various time zones of folks, so it'd most likely need to be a day when you're more flexible with the time of day we play. A Saturday or Sunday would be best, I'd think. Thoughts?
