Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All

Recommended Posts

Woo-hoo! I just put in my pre-order at EB Games.com, and got a FREE "Objection!" Legal Stylus. That is, a stylus shaped to look like an arm pointing at a witness and yelling "Objection!" Clearly, this was the reason I waited for the US release rather than importing.

Oh man, now I may need to get a US copy too. That's one of the best free bobbles I've ever heard. Do you get it if you order in-store?

I got my finger pointing stylus when I bought the limited edition Jap version. Of Phoenix Wright 1. Which came with a manga comic/art book, and a sample CD soundtrack. God I love Japan.

I just imported the game for Wintereenmas. Heh, I'd forgotten how wonderfully hyper-expressive the characters were.

One thing though, I really hope that the amnesia story actually goes somewhere and isn't just a flimsy front for a tutorial.

I've just presented the key in the case 2. I think I already half-understand the sequence of events of the murder. I'm noting it down here so I can point to it and laugh if I'm right:

God! It took me long enough to work out how to use this feature!:frusty: Anyway:

When Maya and Grey entered the room, the murderer was already inside. Probably hiding behind the screen and wearing clothes to match Maya's. Before Maya could start the channeling, the murderer knocked her unconscious and buried her. Maya woke up briefly during this time and attributed it to a dream. After the murder, Maya was brought back out, unconscious. I'm a bit hazy about everything else, particularly the bullet hole in Maya's clothes and Morgan's part in the whole thing.

Back at Kurain village now. Have to say I'm really surprised at

Phoenix's new attitude to prosecutors.

You should bear in mind, case 5 of the first game NEVER happened in plot continuity, so that goes some way to explaining your question. Also you find out more as the cases go on...... it's too good!

Alright! This thread is way old, but I finally finished Phoenix Wright: JFA, and am totally ready to talk about it!

I liked it. But not nearly on the level with the first game, almost entirely for narrative reasons. Here are my complaints. Spoilers follow:

My biggest problem was with the characters. The game felt like it couldn't really decide who to focus on, and as a result, no one felt like they got any serious development. Franziska seemed like she might be a major player, but was basically thrown away in the last case. Maya spent too much time elsewhere/arrested/kidnapped for anything serious to happen, despite the hints at romance with Nick. Pearl, although introduced early, vanished every single time we went to trial to be replaced with Mia.

Speaking of which, Mia IS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD. Now, I don't object to her presence (see what I did there?), but if she can just inhabit bodies indefinitely and hang out throughout the entire trial, then what the hell is the point of dying? In the first game, she played the Obi-Wan Kenobi role - jumping in to give Phoenix ambiguous advice only at the last second when it was absolutely critical. It seems cheap to have her just hang around all the time, especially when she's taking up space that could be used for more time with my girls Maya and Pearl.

And what is it with dangling plot threads? It seems like this game is loaded with them. The Fey political infighting, the Maya-in-love-with-Nick...thing, whatever was happening between Edgeworth and Franziska, and...other things. Were they leaving things open for a sequel, or did this plot just not cohere the way the first did so brilliantly?

On top of all that, the frequent spelling and grammar problems didn't raise my impression of the game much, either.

However, all that being, said...

This game is still EXCELLENT. In spite of the numerous problems with the writing I just mentioned, it's still heads and shoulders above the writing in most video games. This is a sequel that can completely fail to live up to the original game and still doesn't disappoint in the least. I loved it!
