Moosferatu Posted August 2, 2006 I finished HL2: Episode One last night and as the credits were scrolling by one name jumped out at me -- Erik Wolpaw. Does anyone know if he has left Double Fine to work for Vavle? Shame if he has. Not that Valve wouldn't make use of his talents, but certainly not to the same extent as Double Fine. Half-Life has solid writing and all, but there's no comparison when it comes to something like Psychonauts or Grim (yes, I know he didn't work on it). Marek Posted August 2, 2006 Yeah he was already with Valve around the time he and Tim received the GDC award for Best Writing.
MrHoatzin Posted August 2, 2006 That man gets around.
loonyboi Posted August 2, 2006 He's been at Valve for a really long time, actually (like two years). I don't know if he was ever a full-time employee at Double Fine or just an outside contracter.
Jayel Posted August 3, 2006 This name rings a bell.. did he work for Gamespot, PC gamer or CGW by any chance? I remember hating this reviewer because I never agreed with anything he wrote, and it might have been him.

I remember hating this reviewer because I never agreed with anything he wrote, and it might have been him. Yeah, he worked for both CGM and GameSpot. He did great reviews for GameSpot. His negative reviews were always hilarious. It was a shame when he stopped freelancing for them (it was also a shame when GameSpot stopped hiring freelancers at all, but that's a different story). Wrestlevania Posted August 3, 2006 Any links/any that stick out in your memory? Just about everything on the Old Man Murray site is worth settling down to with a cup of cocoa. As a flavoursome intro, I suggest you begin your journey here. I still occaissionally squeal "'EAMCAS'!!!" when the mood suits...
SpiderMonkey Posted August 3, 2006 Oh sorry, this is probably going to come out rudely, but I don't mean it to: I have read OMM extensively, but have never (knowingly) read any of his game reviews for 'mainstream' sites.
loonyboi Posted August 4, 2006 Any links/any that stick out in your memory? Do a Google search for "site:gamespot.com erik wolpaw review" and you'll turn up some gems. I seem to recall his Mortyr review being a great one.
