The Horrors of Guitar Hero

Recommended Posts

Ack. A month or so back my mom and her boyfriend decided to come see how I was living, so they visited my place. The boyfriend, knowing video games, noticed my Guitar Hero controller immediately and spent the rest of the night in tone-deaf bliss. Tonight they were having something of a party. The 45 year old kind of party. "Guess which wine this is" and such. Still, the boyfriend remembered Guitar Hero and called me up to ask if I'd bring it over for the night, have some free booze, show the friends what an upstanding young student I am and then leave whenever. As he's a damn good cook and I miss real food, I happily obliged. Bad, bad idea. I just saw my mother and about 7 of her friends drunk off their asses passing the guitar back and forth for several hours. They're all professors at the University, so imagine your local faculty of economics getting ripped and rocking out on the playstation all night. Friggin weird. I volunteered to take the dog out for an hour (it's pissing rain tonight too) just so I could escape for a while. Don't let this happen to you. Hide your music peripherals if your folks come to visit. I gotta work real hard now to try and block this out so I don't lose a whole bunch of respect for my mom. Wish me luck!

Best.

Miffy, you are getting to that age where you will learn one of the great secrets of life: no one ever really grows up. 50 year-olds can arse about just as much as anyone else, they just try to hide it from the kids and teenagers. Once you're accepted as an adult, you will see a lot of weird shit, believe me.

Guitar Hero: breaking barriers; teaching life lessons; Rocking Out.
