Coal is a terrible energy source in the long term. Of course I'm biased toward nuclear.

Meanwhile there's a Patreon for 8chan. I don't even want to link to it.

I just spotted a package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in a vending machine that was about ready to fall. So I bought the next package and got two for the price of one. Wooooo!

Even calling it "room temperature" is on a relative scale. The process by which you get usable energy from nuclear reactions is by turning water into steam which is used to turn a turbine so you're still talking hundreds of degrees. The temperature of the water being used to create steam at the plant where I work is around 550 F. Fusion is tricky because like aeolist said, you're talking about the same process that powers stars. I'm generally a skeptic so I'll believe this when I see it, but its still a pretty cool and exciting thing.

My personal favorite Lantern is Hal, but I think a movie about Kyle Rayner would be more interesting to watch because of his artist background. Of course, then we run the risk of having the original woman in a refrigerator appear onscreen.

There's finally a Wonder Woman movie coming. Also a whole bunch of other ones. Here's the plans for the next few years “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” directed by Zack Snyder (2016) “Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (2016) “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot (2017) “Justice League Part One,” directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017) “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller (2018) “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa (2018) “Shazam” (2019) “Justice League Part Two,” directed by Zack Snyder (2019) “Cyborg,” starring Ray Fisher (2020) “Green Lantern” (2020)

I beat Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor last week. Even got all the achievements. Some of them are kind of fun to get because they require a good deal of setup to pull off (like getting 5 of a warchief's bodyguards to turn on him). I think overall its too easy, even at the beginning when you're not leveled at all. The gameplay is solid but the nemesis system is what really makes it stand out as more than Assassin's Creed + Arkham. I really hope they go a lot further with it in the future because I can see quite a bit of potential in the system. I also finished The Room Two. Its more of the same as the first Room game, but since I enjoyed the first game I'm ok with that. The switching between puzzle areas thing didn't really grab me though. It felt like a needless step most of the time. Really there was only one room that I felt it made sense for the puzzles to be separated (the one with the reflecting laser).

I broke one million last night on a daily challenge. Normally I don't go very far out of my way for score but I ended up screwing around long enough on a couple levels that the ghost spawned so I ghosted some diamonds. I also had 80+ bombs going into the City of Gold and left with about 20.

The ALL NEW Monday Night Multi-Thumbs RANDOMIZER

There seems to be some increasing interest in this for the non-European folks. Do we have enough people to start up a NA branch? I'm willing to try and organize but I can't make any promises I'll be able to attend all that often. -
Idle Thumbs 179: Shadow of Something

I remember liking Ensign Kim a lot when I first watched Voyager, although I didn't realize until much, much later that I was mostly identifying with the Asian cast member (I hadn't watched TOS at that point so I wasn't very familiar with Sulu). -
This is her list from the Episode 176 thread. There's also a mini series that wraps up the show called the Peacekeeper Wars which as of right now Danielle hasn't seen but I'd suggest watching if you need closure.

Brianna Wu made an attempt to reach out to a few GamerGate supporters, namely Adam Baldwin and Milo Yiannopoulos. She says that Adam Baldwin rejected her offer while Milo agreed to have her on his radio show for an interview. He sent her a bunch of really leading and inflammatory questions, most of which she still agreed to answer. While she was traveling to find a safe space to do the recording, Milo basically got tired of waiting and started talking about how she blew him off. He even shared part of their email correspondence because he no longer felt obligated to keep it confidential (no personal information or anything but still a really shitty move for a movement that's supposedly about journalistic ethics). I only read a handful of the questions and I'm honestly surprised she would agree to answer any of them. Its pretty clear from reading them what his agenda is.

The first one I'd like to talk about is the most recent Nobel Peace Prize winners: Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai. Kailash Satyarthi, in the tradition of Ghandi, has worked for years to help protect the rights of thousands (over 80,000 as of right now) of children from exploitative labor and slavery. Malala Yousafzai, after surviving being shot in the head during a Taliban attack, has campaigned for the rights of children (especially girls) to receive education. At the age of 17, she is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate ever. A girl from Pakistan and a man from India are sharing the Nobel Peace Prize. Sounds pretty awesome to me.

There are plenty of unions where I work, just not any that I can join for what I do. I was told that several years before I started they talked about unionizing but that went nowhere. As far as benefits goes, I have an HSA with a high deductible but our company offers several health care plans. I chose the high deductible plan because I rarely visit the doctor (I actually haven't been to one in several years) and I have enough in my HSA to cover me in the future. I'm technically underpaid for what I do (I make 83% of the standard pay rate for someone in my position) but I live in an area with a low cost of living to help even it out a bit. Even then, I'd still say I'm underpaid but who wouldn't say that. I'm definitely overworked though. The real problem we have is a lot of people are retiring and we're not staffing back up enough to compensate. There's a fairly large age gap here and a ton of knowledge is walking out the door with very little time for people like me to learn what I need.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: my company basically refuses to pay us for extra hours despite expecting us to work extra hours

I definitely remember there being trolls and wargs in The Lord of the Rings films (warg riders even). It would be really bizarre if they had the rights to those creatures but they could let Gollum in the game.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I've never tried the pay version. I just run my installer once a week. -
Work is seriously getting me down again. I had to put in 2 exhaustingly long days last week (which I spent on my feet in uncomfortable shoes stomping all around the plant), my weekend got cut short (its Sunday evening and I'm at the office), and I'm probably going to have to work an evening schedule for the next few days which is going to make getting my normal work done quite difficult. At least I get overtime. Oh wait, NO I DON'T.

I technically use utorrent but I hardly ever torrent so I don't really notice much. The only reason I still use it is because its part of my ninite installer but it looks like they have qBittorrent on there now so I'll probably switch to that too. But this post is mostly an excuse for me to say again how much I love ninite. -
Yeah I wondered about that too. I'm no expert either but from what I can gather from Google, caragors and graugs don't exist in Tolkien's works and were invented for the game. I have no problem with that but it is a bit odd that they wouldn't use things the original author created and are functionally identical.

That reminds me, if you have a Chromecast, you can get 2 months of Hulu Plus for free (for new accounts only). Launch the Chromecast app, connect to your device, and one of the menu options should be something like "Check for offers". I'm using mine to watch Twin Peaks in preparation for the Rewatch podcast.

Yeah, its under the artifacts appendix. You also don't have to listen to the entire thing, just hit play then back out. I have only one more achievement left but I can't find a ghul matron for the life of me. ...nevermind. Finished them all.

I have 3 achievements left: completing the survival challenges, completing the hunting challenges, and starting a riot by commanding one warchief to attack another. Some thoughts on the nemesis system. While I really like it and think its the best part of the game, I wish it had more. I like how the strengths and weaknesses play a part in fighting the captains, but a lot of the time I feel like it doesn't matter that much. I will grant it does create some interesting emergent events, such as the time a captain I was hunting ended up running away from some caragors and straight into my glowing hand. What I'd really like is for the system to have some effect beyond combat and a bit more political or espionage. Like if I control a bodyguard for a warchief, I could have an alternate way of drawing him out or maybe my lackey could smuggle me in so I could assassinate the chief and install him as leader. Or if I controlled a beast-tamer captain I could summon caragors or have more caragor cages available to unleash. I can see a lot of interesting stuff the system could do if they expanded on it in future versions.

Hatsune Miku is going to appear on David Letterman tonight. I can't believe I'm not making that up.
