  1. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

There's nothing like dark magic resurrecting them if that's what you mean. Usually they show up and say things like "Oh, you thought that fall would kill me did you?" or "It'll take more than your blade to kill me". They'll reference the way you killed them but the explaination is basically you thought they were dead but they really weren't. Early on there seemed to be a theory that if you decapitate them then they permanently die but I guess that's not true either? Honestly they don't return very often for me.
  2. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

I'm on most weeknights, East Coast time. I pretty much refuse to play with randoms at this point so a more regular group would be nice.
  3. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

It looks like this latest update includes a big change to the skill system. Looks like they made a bunch of very necessary changes to useless skills. I sort of burned out on the game a while ago but its been long enough that I'd be willing to try out the new stuff.
  4. Life

Came into work this morning, my computer won't start. Doesn't even turn on. Called the help desk and put in a ticket but I think the power supply failed. I'm currently logged on to the computer in the empty cube next to me. Can't access the documents I need beacuse they're on the broken computer's hard drive. This is a good start to the week.
  5. Dreams!

I had a pretty rad dream last night where I had a daughter named Danielle (in honor of Jr. Mints). She grew up to become the first Asian and first female President of the United States.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

Is that a Nintendo 3DS XL in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
  7. Good News Everyone

I have no idea what this thread is about anymore.
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

At the risk of sounding like one of those "middle ground" people, what I think Jeff in particular means isn't necessarily that the entire anti-GG side is too extreme, nor is every single supporter of GG (although I suspect a lot of them are). I'm willing to bet that somewhere out there exists an "Adam Baldwin should die" type thread. I fully believe that number to be exceedingly small and certainly nowhere near GG numbers of such things but not zero. In the same vein, I also believe that at least some GG supporters genuinely believe in the idea of more ethics in journalism, or at least they did at some point. I don't think those people could honestly make that claim now though. The events of the past couple months really reminds me of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Drumhead". Particularly the ending:
  9. Green Thumbs: Talkin' About Gardening

I totally approve of this thread title The only plant I have in my house is some green onions that I've been continually growing and using out of a cup on a window sill.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Jeff also mirrors what I've been thinking most of the time. The truth of the matter is there are of course going to be extremists on both sides. That will always happen no matter what the conflict is. In the same way that many GamerGaters say that those issuing death and rape threats don't represent them (which I don't really agree with but is beside the point), neither do a couple of outliers in the other direction represent all SJWs (I am making an assumption that these people exist, I have no actual evidence). But I don't take Jeff's words as a "middle ground" stance. He's pretty firmly against GG. I totally believe that there are people who genuinely do care about ethics and inclusion and all the "legitimate" things that GG says they represent. I also think that a lot of those people got swept up into the movement, either out of ignorance or against their will. But that was when it started. At this point, when enough people who didn't care at all about games in the first place start calling your movement a hate group, whatever you THINK it's about doesn't really matter because the rest of the world is only looking at the terrible shit that's been done. If they really cared about ethics and games, they'd have ditched the GG handle long ago and called it something with actual meaning.
  11. Idle Thumbs 180: Wars and Pieces

Just to clarify, I don't mean to imply he's an idiot or anything. He's clearly not familiar with the podcast and a single 20 minute segment is barely going to begin scratching the surface of what normally occurs. He's not wrong to have the opinions or interpretation of Chris's words the way he did, he just doesn't have the whole picture and was probably expecting more of a formal critique than a casual one.
  12. Idle Thumbs 180: Wars and Pieces

He says at the end that he may have been mischaracterizing Idle Thumbs which to me he was. It seemed like he was expecting a podcast about games criticism instead of the goofy ramblings of a fun bunch of people who mostly talk about games. Of course there's a lot of criticism in Idle Thumbs but I wouldn't say that's what the podcast is about, if it can even be said the podcast is "about" anything.
  13. Life

My late night office banishment has ended and I finally get to take a little break. Time for a 3-day weekend where I do nothing but sleep.
  14. Good News Everyone

I don't think cold fusion has been explicitly disproven, but there are currently no actual methods of doing it. The hoax part comes from an early claim by some scientist who said he figured it out but no one could repeat the process. As a concept its still entirely theoretical. Also I am secretly immensely pleased that a thread I started has somehow turned into this discussion through no will of my own.
  15. Idle Thumbs 180: Wars and Pieces

The amount of subtitles and self referential looping would be insane. Idle Thumbs Relisten 1: Idle Thumbs 1: Let the Games Begin: Let the Games Begin Again
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I don't know that there is consensus, but there are certainly multiple cases of one person being brave enough to speak out causing other victims to also gain the courage to say something. If it happens to you and you think that its not happening to anyone else its easy to become withdrawn, scared, and isolated. But knowing that someone else out there might share those feelings and experiences can be a comfort in a way because it shows you're not alone. Of course its a double edged sword because it means exposing that information to the public which naturally has its own problems. I don't really have the time to do the proper research and provide specific evidence of what I'm saying but I'm sure its out there.
  17. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I totally agree with the second half of your post. In general I'm not a huge fan of open world games but that was the best part of BL to me. I loved cruising around that world just checking everything out. The parts I didn't care for were sadly the game parts. I thought the combat was decent but nothing special. The RTS stuff I didn't enjoy at all but I'm not a huge RTS fan to begin with. If it had been a straight up DF adventure game set in a crazy heavy metal open world, it might have become one of my favorite games ever but as it stands now I think its just ok.
  18. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I think it was created as a refuge for all the GG folks who got mad when 4chan mods started shutting down their threads.
  19. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I'm actually a little down on Brutal Legend. I loved the idea and the world, I just didn't like the actual gameplay. That sentence describes a lot of DF for me really.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That's actually how I found out about it in the first place. I think it was a tweet from Zoe Quinn but I'm not positive.
  21. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

This is the reason I like DF's stuff. I wouldn't necessarily count most of them among the greatest games ever made, but I still enjoy the heck out of playing them because I find them so stylish and charming. A large part of it is also me being a Tim Schafer fanboy. I think its totally fine to be a fan of a developer but not necessarily their games.
  22. Farscape

I actually like a good amount of Season 1 as well. I totally recognize that its not as good as the later seasons but I still had fun with it. As for the Peacekeeper Wars, I thought it was fun too but not as good as the series proper. It felt like an entertaining TV sci-fi flick, which is exactly what it was. There's nothing wrong with that but I would have preferred a series continuation to the movie finisher. But at least they wrapped up the MASSIVE cliffhanger the regular series ended on.
  23. Life

No comment. (I actually don't know shit about Magnum PI)
  24. I Had A Random Thought...

The titular Demolition Man is actually Sly Stalone's character John Spartan's nickname. The old, aged black cop who still remembers the good old days explains that he was called that because of the tendency for things to be destroyed while he's pursuing criminals. But even with that in mind, it's still not a very fitting name.
