Today is 12/13/14 (using the American date format). It's the last time that the date will be sequential until the next century.

Given all the things that have happened this year, I sometimes wonder if we're living in a dystopian future and maybe don't realize it.

I agree with this in general, but I'm not sure I agree with this in Star Wars. I mean, we're already talking about glowing energy swords, crazy robots, lasers, and spaceships so subtly is kind of out of the question. I think the flashy fights fit in just fine. If anything I think they're too stilted and wooden to really be interesting in a way I find satisfying. Maybe this next set of movies will pull back on some of the crazy (which I'd be totally ok with), in which case I'll agree with the less is more idea. But the rolling bot, lightbroadsword, and Falcon dive don't give me the impression that it will be.

This is also super choreographed but I like the use of the Force in actual combat. Reminds me of The Force Unleashed. One thing I want to see done away with is the whole "shake the object as the Force user tries to move it into their hand" thing. We get it, they can move stuff with the Force. Just do it already.

The sale is supposedly going to start on the 18th, which is when the auction thing is supposed to end. Knowing Valve's penchant for weird metagames during sales, they're probably related.

I was going to write a big long post about why I think it's dumb (including going into the physics of it) before I remembered I don't actually care.

I'm not really arguing either, just spewing out some of the dumb, dorky things in my head.

One of the previous dork parts of me wants to say that technically they are Human, they're just not Humans from Earth. Not that it matters. The Jedi are paradoxical in many ways, the rejection of emotion being just one of them. Also I didn't mean to imply that love is a requirement for making babies in the Star Wars universe, just that as a Jedi Mace should have theoretically been above that need.

I'm just annoyed that the update, which has been a long time coming, is full of nothing but cosmetic crap. I don't care if people want to engage in trading hats/ducks/whatever, but that doesn't mean I don't want things like new maps or weapons. I don't feel that I'm owed anything but this update does nothing to make me want to play again.

Part of me wants to point out that Jedi were taught to reject feelings like love and thus it wouldn't be likely that Mace had any children. Another part wants to tell the first part that Anakin had kids anyway. A third part wants to call the first two dorks and it's just a movie anything could happen! I think the third part wins.

Sounds like a video game all right.

Dreamt last night that I had become a professional fake gamer. People would stream themselves playing a game but would pay me to be the one actually playing the game so they could look good in front of their audience. For some reason, the location I would play the games from was once a bar which is weird because I don't drink. It had a great setup though, nearly a dozen stations with different consoles at each one so that I could play whatever game was required.

I forgot about FTL: AE as well. That was pretty great. I even sent a reader mail to questions@idlethumbs.net about it telling my goofy story of my one human crewmember (with the given name Breckon) on the good ship Lanius repeatedly asphyxiating in the vacuum of space only to be resurrected by the cloning bay and start asphyxiating all over again just so I could get an achievement. Good times.

Steamworld Dig never clicked with me either. I don't think its bad, but I found almost nothing about it interesting. The style didn't grab me and the gameplay was stuff I'd seen before. The only reason I beat the game was because I bought it before a long plane ride and didn't have anything else to do.

I saw someone on Twitter (I forget who) say that The Order is missing a golden opportunity by not have a special edition pre-order and calling it The Pre-Order.

My intent with this thread was for it to go wherever it goes. If we want to talk about 2015, great. If we want to talk about the Year of the PS3, also great. Serious, not serious, whatever. There are no wrong posts. Unless Twig shows up.

So intent is an acceptable excuse when you're harassing women online but when a charity organization declines your offer because of that same intent it suddenly isn't acceptable? That's what those responses say to me.

I take it that the anonymity isn't legally binding in the same way that confidentiality works with a doctor or lawyer.

Dumb but serious question: Why is it call Alcoholics Anonymous? What makes it anonymous? Isn't part of the meetings that you introduce yourself by saying "My name is _______ and I'm an alcoholic"?
