  1. I figured there was some sort of cloning shenanigans going on, but I didn't know the history of either fishing game so I wasn't sure which one was first. But since Ridiculous Fishing isn't on Android, I guess I'm stuck with Ninja Fishing for goofy fishing on the go.
  2. I don't own an iDevice but months ago I played an Android game called Ninja Fishing that sounds like it's the same as Ridiculous Fishing maybe?
  3. FTL

I went to a panel at PAX East about narrative design and one of the panel members (I forget who) brought up FTL and came up with an idea for a random event where you find a log of some kind that describes the fate of your last crew in horrific detail. My crews have been put through some pretty terrible deaths. Damn Mantises...
  4. Oculus rift

This is fascinating. I love the part where he tries the sniper.
  5. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

That is EXACTLY what I want. A general direction to move in, but the freedom to decide if and how I want to do it without someone literally pointing the way for me. You just made a shitty day at work much less shitty. Best.
  6. Did the digital wallpapers ever get sent out? I was looking for a new one for my phone when I remembered that there was supposed to be one from the KS. Did I somehow forget I got it, or even worse, miss it entirely?
  7. LucasArts is no more

I'll throw my two cents in here and say my favorite was The Dig. It may not have been the "best" LucasArts game, but it's the one I have the fondest memories of. I think it's on Steam now. I know what I'm doing this weekend.
  8. That's profiling and that's wrong.
  9. Netflix

The new episodes of Arrested Development has a release date: May 26. All 15 episodes will all come out at 12:01 am Pacific Time. http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/04/new-arrested-development-season-coming-to-netflix-on-may-26/
  10. Sounds you're describing most light gun arcade games. The vast majority of the enemies will shoot all around you without being a threat, except for that one guy who shoots the magic bullet that does damage. And since you only have 3 lives per credit, getting hit is a big deal, with little or no chance of getting lives back (without spending money anyway).
  11. Didn't Splinter Cell: Conviction do something like this? I never played it, but I do know that it featured a "last know position" ghost that showed where the enemies think you are whenever you moved. I would imagine this lets you set up one man flanking manouvers while they converge on the spot they last saw you. However I also remember Chris talking about how he played that game with lots of pistol headshots so maybe that still happens. As for Infinite, I haven't played it yet either thanks to a non-functioning desktop and a laptop that can't run it smoothly, so I've mostly been ignoring the story/plot discussions. I do find it hilarious this game is somehow able to trick people into falsely remembering that they made/didn't make a choice when in fact they didn't/did (seems very meta given Bioshock's previous themes).
  12. Death of animation?

The nostalgic/retro idea is how I see handdrawn animation possibly coming back someday, but even then it will still contain a lot of computer animation. Also, "We were both blown away..." - Disney.com
  13. PAX East 2013

I was looking at the schedule for PAX East and I noticed that Chris is listed as a panelist for the Double Fine Adventure Adventure! panel. I've been lied to by the PAX schedule before (video games and famous were listed as panelists for the Telltale panel at PAX Prime 2011 but that proved to be false). Are any of the Thumbs going to Boston this year? Also, any readers going to PAX? Want to meet up? Or maybe attend some panels together?
  14. General Video Game Deals Thread

This week's Humble Weekly Sale includes Red Faction: Guerrilla Space Asshole (and Darksiders I/II and Red Faction: Armageddon).
  15. PAX East 2013

It also helps to play with the actual rules instead of making them up as we go. But hey, that's what practice rounds are for right? While I really enjoyed hanging out, I think my favorite thing at PAX was an improptu Artemis tournament I happened to see. It was in the BYOC area so I didn't get to play, but because I had seen videos of other people playing (and knew that the game even existed) I sort of became the local expert, despite never playing it myself. It was a hilarious thing to watch. Also, the final round of the Omegathon was amazing as always. This year it was Spaceteam. After many, many rounds ending early due to connection issues, the Penny Arcade guys showed how awesome they really are and said "Fuck it, we're sending them all to Germany". Stuff like that makes me so happy PAX exists.
  16. PAX East 2013

Finally back home. Thanks to all the Thumbs who came to the meetup and a special thanks to Chris for hanging out with us for a bit despite his busy schedule. It was cool meeting everyone, seeing panels, and handling wein. From the meetup Playing some Weinhandler after I'm shit at this game.
  17. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Yeah, it was during the DF panel. Chris literally asked Tim for the words to fill in the "About" section and launched the site while Tim was talking about stuff/answering questions. It wasn't livestreamed or anything, I was just sitting in the audience, creepily watching Chris.
  18. BioShock Infinite

Edit: apparently I can't embed YouTube at the airport.
  19. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I think World's Apart is a better description, but I like the way Broken Age sounds. I was watching while Chris filled in the about section with Tim's impromptu words and I noticed a couple things. If you check out the source code for the page, you might notice two variables called "wizard" and "idleThumbs".
  20. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I'm doing the same thing. Everything I know about the game right now I learned in the panel.
  21. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Good job to Chris on the live launch of the site and getting down Tim's rambling summary.
  22. PAX East 2013

I am/was Dave. Pictures from meetup to follow (once I get home and can download them).
  23. DuckTales Remastered?! WOOHOO!

Man I miss bouncing around on that cane.
  24. PAX East 2013

    Fuck, wish I saw that.
  25. Transistor

I got to play the demo on the show floor. First of all, it plays nothing like Bastion. It's an action game with a time freeze mechanic. That screenshot Mington has above is when you stop time. When you freeze time, you can move around and queue up moves. When you execute the plan (as they call it) the main character quickly performs the actions. You have a limited amount of frozen time to act with. Moving uses some of it up, and attacks use up more. When she executes the plan, she moves at a faster rate than normal, but enemies don't remain frozen, so they can still act, albeit slowly. One enemy teleported out of the way after my first attack hit, meaning the rest of my queued up actions missed completely. Positioning also has an influence. Hitting an enemy from behind can sometimes do more damage. Some attacks hit enemies in a straight line, while others hit in an area, so careful planning is required to maximize the effectiveness. After you execute the plan, the meter has to recharge fully before you can use it again. You can still do some of the attacks in real time, but others require a full meter to perform. It might be possible to play the whole thing without stopping time, but it seems designed to prevent that because you attack somewhat slow and the enemies can maneuver around you. There was also a "puzzle" that involved the time mechanic, but it as a simple one involving two switches that needed to be hit at the same time. I asked if they planned to have more puzzle elements in it but they didn't know, or at least they wouldn't say if they did. I also asked about details like if they had a whole story already written, any additional characters or levels, etc. But everything is still unknown since this is so early in development. They weren't even sure if the demo would end up being the first level or just a standalone demo. Logan Cunningham (the narrator from Bastion) also narrates Transistor, but they didn't call it a "narration". He actually voices the sword so it's more like he's speaking to the main character. Overall it was cool and looks to be fun. It has the same sense of style and atmosphere as Bastion so it looks to be headed in a good direction. Definitely one to watch.
