SecretAsianMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Let's say yes. -
Just got a 3DS and picked up Animal Crossing with it. So far I've claimed some property next to a waterfall.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Maybe your parents can be the King and Queen of Space. A Mass Effect game where you play as a member of C-Sec and solve Citadel intrigue could be fun. -
What kind of hippy are you? Cacti are people too man.

I was thinking early Friday before everything starts, that way maybe we could coordinate some if multiple people want to see the same thing. I'll actually be in town on Thursday if anyone is going to be around then. I'm also up for some tabletop/free play/whatever.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Now I want a Surgeon Simulator mod where you have to fix computers. -
Ok, my new favorite dumb thing Found it out from an AMA that Steve did.

You can use telekinesis to manipulate objects without touching them. And use your clearly cybernetic eyes to zoom in while standing still. Sounds pretty sci-fi to me!

Idle Thumbs 120: The Spectacle Was Incredible
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That was one of my favorite things about Gone Home. It was really nice being able to put things back into place instead of casually discarding them on the ground and making a mess. I think I would have felt more like a thief who broke into someone else's home and was ransacking the place while reading their most private thoughts if I couldn't have put things away properly like a normal person. Although I did spend a few minutes being amused trying to close a drawer by throwing pens at it. Also, I was slightly disappointed that while the water dispenser on the fridge works, you can't actually fill things up with water. -
Does anyone want to meet up on Friday morning before it opens? We can hang out in line and discuss our plans. If not, where/when else can we meet?

Idle Thumbs 120: The Spectacle Was Incredible

By the end of the cast, I forgot he was even there. In Chinese, the term for "video game" is two words meaning "electric" and "play". I love electric play. Also, crazy commericals are a pretty common occurance across all of Asia, not just Korea. -
In one of the older casts, Chris talked about a game (Dragon Age I think) where his dwarf commoner was looked down on by pretty much everyone, even the shopkeeper. I don't know if you can change that opinion with fancy new clothes though.

At the supermarket I go to, they aren't dedicated baggers per say. Rather, bagging is just another position that's filled. There usually aren't as many people bagging as there are registers, so the baggers I see will usually bounce between several registers at a time while the customer checks out. Also, several of the lanes are self-check out with no baggers at all. I also prefer to bag myself so that I can separate foods, ie raw meat in one bag, boxed/canned goods in another, etc. Sometimes I don't even use the bags at all. I keep an old laundry basket in the trunk of my car specifically to carry things like groceries. Less waste, and it makes for fewer trips to empty out the car.

At least I'll have something to do while waiting in line to play sweet games.

Like most of the streams, I was constantly yelling at my screen stuff like "You missed that thing over there" or "No don't do that, do this". Still, it was very entertaining. I laughed every time Sean referred to Chris' guy as "Spelunky".

So I'm planning on getting a 3DS XL this weekend. I've been wanting one for a while and with PAX coming up, I decided it was a good time to finally get it. I have a few dumb questions though. Forgive me if these have been covered. 1. How is the battery life on the XL? Both with the 3D on and off. 2. Does it come with a charger? I've seen people say it doesn't, but is that just in certain regions? 3. What kind of port does the charger use? Is it like a mini-usb port or some proprietary Nintendo thing? 4. How does Streetpass work? Do I leave it on and just walk around? Do I have to be connected to Wi-fi? Is there a limit to how many people it can interact with? 5. Does it use that horrible friend code system the Wii does? 6. Any recommendations on the color? Or maybe a good bundle?

At some point last night, I woke up from an Idle Thumbs themed dream. I went back to sleep shortly after and now for the life of me I can't remember what happened. All I can remember is that it had the Thumbs in it and it was amazingly awesome, I just don't know why. I was watching the pre-cast Spelunky stream just before I went to bed, so maybe it had something to do with that.

Divekick is really hilarious. They had a booth at PAX East right next to Double Fine/Capy and it was always crowded. The devs had these giant controllers made up that were basically 2 huge buttons labeled Dive and Kick. There's actually quite a bit of strategy in the game despite its simplicity, similar to Smash.

Am I joking? Am I? Yes... Actually, I first saw that episode when I was a kid and I grew up believing that was true.

Here, let Batman explain it

I had that happen to a pack of cards. I tried to throw it into a drawer but it phased through and landed on the floor under the cabinet, where it became irretrievable. With regard to the negative reviews, I take it as another clash between the "Games are supposed to be fun" and "Games can be art" schools of thought. I loved Gone Home and while I did have a certain amount of fun with it, that's not how I would primarily describe the game. Gone Home to me was a meaningful experience, a game of the mind and played with the heart. The enjoyment I got out of it is different from the kind I would get out of a game like TF2, but they're both equally valid to me. I can understand the frustration of anyone who was looking for Gone Home to be "fun", but they only have themselves to blame.

You mean duck sacrifices? Mmm, I could go for some roast duck right about now.

This game does a really good job of creating the right kind of atmosphere, even if it does play on some common tropes like
