I like the Shepard-McKay dynamic too, but almost every episode was about one or both of them. I didn't really care for the rest of the team because they never did anything. Ford was disappointing because they turned him into a steroid addict so quickly. And I never liked Carson. All he did was complain. Teyla and Ronon were almost background characters by the end. I thought Weir was good but whatever. And you're right, Todd is the best. The Wraith as a whole I thought was dumb but he was great. I also really love Mitchell in SG-1. I'm a fan of Ben Browder in general. I miss Farscape.

That is extremely honorable Sententia. It makes me feel even worse about this post. So I'm 30 today. I feel old. And like I've accomplished nothing with my life. Especially when you compare it to people around here. To make matters worse, I'm kind of trapped in a rut not entirely of my own doing. I don't know how I'm going to get out of it, if I can at all. Or even if I should. It's unbelievably complicated. I seriously envy those of you whose life is exciting and the changes you're making. I wish I could do those kinds of things too, but I'm burdened with responsibility at the moment. Sorry to be depressing after an extremely inspiring post. You guys can feel free to ignore this and focus on the good stuff above me.

That episode has one of the best Daniel moments, the part where he snaps at a few of the hostages because they won't shut up. I'm also a Stargate dork and was upset they canceled the series just as it was starting to get interesting again. I hated the Goa'uld but I loved the Ori. I thought Atlantis was ok, but they should have just called it what it really was: the Shepard and McKay show. Seriously, those guys did everything. They didn't even need a team.

I finally started playing this after PAX because I met Lucas Pope. I'm kinda fascinated by this game. Reminds me of going to work because of all the security measures I have to go though (I work at a nuclear power plant). Also, today I had to detain Argobot because she was on the wanted list. Sorry. Spelunky and Bastion works are awesome. Why is everyone here so freaking talented?

Hearing you guys talk about moving reminds me that I really want to move, but can't. For personal reasons I'm not going to get into, I'm stuck where I am for the foreseeable future. I don't really have any friends outside of work, and the few I do have at work are work friends that I don't really have anything in common with except for the fact that we work together. I would love to get away from where I am and go somewhere fun. But my life is kind of a mess right now so that isn't likely to happen.

Idle Thumbs 121: (I Know You're Having Fun But) I'm Still Working

If you use the keep the town beautiful ordinance, do you never have to water the flowers, or do you only have to water some of them? Most of the other daily tasks I'm ok with doing, but watering flowers is so tedious. Sometimes I just want to run through them all so I'll be rid of them.

Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic

I think they need to repeat themselves more. When's the last time Jake asked someone "Did you beat it?" Where are the baboos? Where are the puffins? WHERE ARE THE WIZARDS??? -
I think what you said about Mike is true. He's not a writer and it shows. He doesn't pretend to be one. And I certainly don't blame him for not having those skills (I sure don't). That said, his apology, and I do consider it a genuine apology, still lacks the most basic word you would expect to see when someone apologizes: "sorry". Heck, you said the word and I don't think anyone was actually all that upset with you. Mike regrets what he did, but is he sorry? I'm not 100% sure. Maybe I'm just arguing semantics, but I think a lot of people would feel better if he actually just came out and said it.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I finally bought Papers Please after talking to Lucas Pope at PAX (and some cajoling from Argobot). I thought it would be super depressing, but strangely enough I'm not feeling that way at all. I think I'm too fascinated by it for it to actively depress me, if that makes any sense. -
When your boyfriend starts having too much fun and making too much noise, be sure to interrupt and say "I know you're having fun but..."

Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It surprised me how you almost caught up at the end. I was a little scared when you showed that completed 21 point ticket. If I were smarter, I would have ended the game sooner instead of trying to tack those last few trains onto my already huge snake of a train. It was a lot of fun though. Three thumbs up (but I don't have three thumbs). -
Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic

After the unexpected mass that was the Thumbs meetup broke into smaller groups, the one I was in ended up back at the convention center and we played Ticket to Ride Europe. I'd seen the American map played before on youtube, but this was my first time playing the game myself. I agree that the European version seemed better. It adds some mechanics that were pretty neat and let me eventually win the game. -
That's kind of how I'm reading it too and what I'm afraid of. It doesn't sound so much like "I'm sorry" as it is "I'm sorry I got caught" or maybe "I'm sorry everyone's so mad". He's acknowledging that people are upset, which is a good step, but he's not saying that he understands why or what he's going to do to prevent it in the future, which is a bad step.

Man, today is a weird day in my town. Cyrus finally woke up and started accusing me of hitting on his wife, I finally got enough money to fund my second bridge, and now everyone's calling me duke.

T&T Mart just opened up. Progress! Also random aside: I'm still too used to the DS Lite. I've turned off the wireless a million times thinking it's the power switch.

From tip #5: Let Him Concentrate Holy shit man. I'm kinda surprised one of the tips isn't something like "Bake him some cookies while he's gaming" or "Bring him a beer" or some other horrible crap.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
SecretAsianMan replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I didn't fully realize it until I posted in the Shantae thread, but I guess I quit Ducktales Remastered. The nostalgia wore off quickly and once it did the game didn't hold up at all. And that new last level has some serious bullshit in it. I know I'm at the end, but I really don't want to finish it. -
The thing that kind of scares me is Honesty is good, but honesty is also what got him in trouble in the first place. If he really thinks these things to himself he can. If he wants to say them to the public he can. He just has to be aware of how people are going to react which is when he runs into problems. If it keeps happening like this, maybe he does need a PR guy to stop him once in a while. I hope he does get better at it because I don't actually believe he's a bad guy, or maybe I just don't want to believe it.

I think in the case of games like this, getting funding from things like Kickstarter is also a way of gauging the demand for this kind of thing. If you get funded right away or with an absurd amount of money, it probably means that there's a potential market for the game. On the other hand, if you get no support, it might mean you just saved a lot of time and money on what would have been a complete failure if you took it to a publisher directly. Maybe if it's a huge sucess you can get that publisher money to make a sequel. Also, I too had no idea it was a Metroidvania. Knowing that, I'm slightly more interested but still not enough to actually back it.

I've been thinking about this and the best thing I can think of would be to create a group or organization that would operate within PAX to support those that feel they need it. For example, if there are women (or men) out there who are uncomfortable being alone or going to events without support, a network of people could be created to make sure no one is out there alone. They could raise awareness without necessarily protesting just by being together as a large group. People advertise things all the time at PAX, some for profit, some not. The Cookie Brigade, who is not affiliated with PA in any way, collects donations for Child's Play and they just walk around asking if people would like to buy cookies for charity. I wasn't aiming that comment at you directly. It was more of a general statement because there are people out there who are actively saying "Don't go to PAX because you're supporting PA". I do understand where you're coming from though. I can't answer whether or not it's a good use of resources for people to travel all the way to PAX for a panel because I've never done it and that situation would vary from person to person. Maybe for someone close by it would be (with a PAX on each coast, odds are that it would be relatively easy for a good number of people). Hosting a panel doesn't obligate them to stay for the entire duration of PAX either. There have been panelists in the past who have litterally been at PAX only for the duration of their panel. I'm not saying it would necessarily be easy either, but things worth doing rarely are.

I played Ducktales Remastered when it came out, but the sheen of nostalgia quickly wore off and the game stopped being interesting much sooner than I would have liked. Having never played any Shantae game, I don't even have that nostalgia to draw me in so this whole thing looks unremarkable to me.
