Grim has some of my most loved and most hated puzzles. I've mentioned it before, but the Grim Fandango puzzle design document is one of my favorite things ever. Obviously Zeus will want to avoid it until after finishing the game, but I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I like riddles, logic puzzles, and brain teasers, although I'm not especially good at them. I figured we could share some of our favorites. I also have an idea for making it a game if everyone agrees. The rules would be: 1. The first person to correctly answer the riddle earns the right to ask the next riddle. 2. If no one correctly answers the riddle after a certain period of time (say a week), then the person asking the riddle is said to have won and can then ask another riddle. 3. Anyone can also choose to pass instead of asking a riddle. You can either pass it off to a specific person (maybe someone who came close to the answer) or make it open, in which case anyone can ask the next riddle. 4. This is supposed to be fun, so try to avoid simply Googling the answer. What do you guys think? If no one wants to do it this way, we can simply post riddles and answers instead.

I watched Redline last night with Tegan. What a weird, fun movie. A lot of the character designs remind me of Marvel characters, like Captain America, Galactus, and Beast. The vehicles were rather imaginative and there's some pretty hilarious music and lines of dialogue. Lots of cool subtle things too. Good times overall.

One could argue that they didn't necessarily get to the fork from their respective towns, but you understood the core concept, which is you have to ask them both a question that will result in the same answer. The more general question I was looking for is "Which road leads to the town you're from" but you essentially got it.

Another logic one that I'm sure many probably know. A man is walking down a road when he comes to a fork. At the fork are 2 men, one from Truthtown where everyone always tells the truth, and another from Liarville where everyone always lies. One path in the fork leads to Truthtown and the other to Liarville. The man wants to get Truthtown. What one question can he ask both men to determine which road to take?

I really like the voice acting in the game, but I was rather disappointed by Stan. He seemed so...sedate compared to what I was expecting from a fast-talking used-boat salesman. I mean look at this

There are several ways of looking at the Monty Hall problem. The way I like to explain it is you have a 1/3 chance of getting it right the first time in which case switching will get you nothing. You have a 2/3 chance of getting it wrong the first time in which case switching will give you the prize, so switching is statistically better. The answer of switching yields the best chance also depends on certain conditions to be true, such as the host knowing what's behind every door or his pattern of opening doors not being random. It's a neat problem and one of my favorites.

Think of it like making change. It's as reasonable as an assumption that I'm going to get 50 cents back when I use a $5 bill for something that costs $4.50.

Also not quite what I mean. There's no trickery involved, it's basically just logic.

I guess we're abandoning the game premise I came up with, which is fine by me. A traveller arrives in a village. He has with him a chain made of gold with 23 links. The innkeeper agrees to let him stay at a rate of one link per day. Because the traveller does not know how long he will stay, he must cut the chain into smaller chains in order to pay one day at a time. What is the least number of cuts required to allow him to stay for any number of days between 1 and 23?

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

If you mean for gaming, I actually use a gaming keypad, specifically the Razer Orbweaver. It's a bit pricey, but you can find them for less then the full price listed on Razer's site (I bought one used from Amazon that cost half the retail price and it works great). I personally find it more comfortable and versatile for gaming. I use a cheap keyboard for typing.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
SecretAsianMan replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Spelunky seems like it requires a large amount of reflex at first because of it's platforming nature, but once you start to become familiar with the game, you learn enemy patterns, level layouts, and start to see the recurring elements and patterns. There is a certain degree of skill required, but prudent planning can drastically increase your odds of survival. As for things that the game doesn't explain, part of the fun is encountering and discovering these things for yourself. Of course you're perfectly free to not like any of that. -
