  1. It looks like the Fire TV is going to use the existing Amazon Android app store to deliver content, which includes things like Netflix. Maybe the Amazon and Hulu Plus apps will come preloaded, but it seems like the other stuff is available now.
  2. Kim & Clint Hocking their Swiftboat down the Amazon

I'm with JonCole. Amazon already has their own Android app store. Looking at Amazon right now, it seems like this is how they're going to deliver content to the Fire TV. Their appstore, while not nearly as popular as things like iTunes or Google Play, has been gaining ground over their competitors. Having actual first party hardware will probably only help this since they can make their store front and center. For the average user, it won't seem any different from using iTunes or Google Play, even if those options exist.

  4. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

This Nintendo Insider review of Metroid Fusion says that the smoothing filter works well on it while also having the option of using the standard output. It also looks like playing with the gamepad is an option.

  6. Batman: Arkham City

I think it is relevant to the game, but I knew the topic as a whole would extend beyond the scope of a single game and didn't want to limit it to a thread that people who aren't interested in Arkham City wouldn't read. I didn't read any of the stuff in the Ground Zeroes thread because I have no interest at all in that series, so I had no idea the discussion was even happening. I'll say one more thing about it that is relevant to the game. I agree that it's unfortunate this whole situation had to occur in the first place and probably would have been better without any of it. My problem is actually the perception I was given before going into the game. I had the impression before I started that it was a mechanically good game filled with nothing but crude misogynistic language and behavior. Having now played it, I found those instances to be fairly few in number. They certainly exist, but it's not like the whole game is nothing but that. It seemed like a lot of dislike aimed at a very small portion of the game. It's still an important topic worth discussing though, hence my desire to move it out of this thread.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

Would edible utensils be a good idea? Maybe make them out of something sweet so you can have it for dessert after the meal. Less stuff to clean up. Probably not practical for the home but maybe for take out or bagged lunches.
  8. I think violence and vengeance are a part of human nature but not the core. Humans are complex creatures, and I think having Picard display those feelings despite his "enlightenment" demonstrates that. In the end he still comes around and lets go of his desire for revenge, but to deny that he ever had any is just naïve. Generations would be a much better movie if it ended differently. I'm not a big fan of Kirk but that ending was crap.

But I actually like playing as Catwoman...
  10. Recently completed video games

I beat Arkham City last night. Great game for the most part. I still have some additional stuff to finish up and some DLC bits. It's got me really excited for Arkham Knight now.
  11. TychoCelchuuu's spidey sense is tingling.
  12. Even though I dislike the Borg Queen, I think First Contact was the best TNG movie. I mostly love the way Picard, who is the most calm, collected, and diplomatic of the captains, becomes an angry, vengeful, and almost violent person when facing the Borg. It makes him much more human to me to see that he has this flaw and is capable of succumbing to those instincts when pushed far enough. I also think it's the least silly and ridiculous one. Insurrection was especially ridiculous. There's one scene where Data inflates to become a floatation device and another where Riker flies the Enterprise with a joystick. I do admit though I love the scene where while dogfighting in shuttlecraft.

Sorry for all the spoilers/dumb setup shit, but it's kind of necessary for the actually serious question. The spoiler is completely unimportant to the story so I'm not going to bother tagging it. So I beat Arkham City last night. At one point during the Catwoman section, she promises Poison Ivy that she'll retrieve her plant from a vault in exchange for her help breaking into said vault (hooray insane comic/video game premises). After you break into the vault, if you interact with the plant, Catwoman purposely drops the plant on the ground and steps on it. My first thought after seeing this was "Man, Catwoman really is a bitch". Is that an inappropriate use of the word?
  14. Batman: Arkham City

I "beat" the game last night. I even repeated what Sean did and tried to walk out as Catwoman. Man, that ending was kinda dark. What really bugged me about that though was when Catwoman actually gets to Batman, he basically pulls himself out of the rubble. She did nothing to actually save him. If she actually left, the following events would have basically turned out the same. I was expecting to fight a bunch of henchmen or guards, not get a pointless cutscene. Also I really hate saying this after the big discussion about it, but Catwoman really is kind of a bitch. She promised Ivy she would get her flower, then she fucking steps on it. I'm not done with the game by any means since I still have some Catwoman stuff to do and Harley's side story. I plan on actually trying to get all the Riddler trophies since they're actually neat little puzzles instead of just collectables sitting on the ground for no reason. I also have a bunch of side missions to complete. Normally I wouldn't bother with any of that stuff, but I'm liking the game so much that I actually want to do it this time. I probably won't do the challenge maps or a new game plus though. The cameras and controls gave me some trouble in a couple places and I wish the combat gave you more opportunity to actually use the gadgets instead of being mostly an endless string of counters. Still, overall I loved the game and am now super excited for Arkham Knight.
  15. Feminism

I was about to ask if there was any context in which a gendered insult/swear could be considered "appropriate".
  16. Life

I hate running for excercise, partly because I literally feel like I'm going nowhere, but mostly because I had asthma as a kid which made running a form of torture for me.
  17. Honestly, I wanted to hear an enhanced, 20 minute version of "Trine Trine Trine"
  18. Looks like Kim Swift and Clint Hocking have both joined Amazon Game Studios. Their console thing is suddenly looking much more interesting.

Didn't see this part until now. Those barks are definitely in there, but before I started playing I had the impression that there was a ton of it in this game. I'm taking the game rather slowly because I'm actually interested in the collectables (a rare occurrence for me), which means I spend a lot of time creeping around and eavesdropping on conversations. The bitch barks seem to be in the minority compared to the amount of other stuff that gets talked about. It does occur often enough that I probably would have noticed even if I wasn't specifically paying attention to it, but I think the actual amount was blown out of proportion. Also I'm so glad we're actually having a civil discussion here. Almost forgot what those were like. Thanks everyone for reminding me why I love these forums.
  22. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

You're probably right. I'm still happy with my choice and I'm sure they're both good.
  23. I just got an email about how to get my vinyl. Thanks for all the hard work guys. I'm excited to not be able to listen to it. Now about those wallpapers...
  24. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I have the RT-AC66U, which as one would expect is the AC version of the RT-N66U. I believe it actually used to be the previous Wirecutter recommend before they changed to the 56U. I really like it. The range is excellent, it reaches all 3 floors of my house and isn't even centrally located. I haven't messed around too much with custom firmware but the one it comes with is pretty good. Just a warning, if you do get a recent ASUS device, make sure you update the firmware right away. There was a security bug that let people access any kind of storage attached to it.
