  1. Life

Because unions are socialist and we don't want to be like those damn commies.
  2. Other podcasts

Fine asking for money whatever you want to call it. I guess that's important...

re: 99% Invisible's editing They definitely are consistently short and tightly edited/reported, which I appreciate, but because they're so short, the unusually high ratio of advertising/begging-for-money stands out and is all the more annoying.
  4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

1=2=3=4>pw>>>>>V Get at me nerds. --- EDIT TIME! All right I'm no longer on the bus using my phone, so I'll further clarify my rankings (which are of course the only correct rankings!). V is by far the worst Metal Gear Solid game, but it's also at the same time the better video game. MGSV utterly fails at continuing the tradition of having a cohesive (and definitely ridiculous!) story that 1, 2, 3, and 4 set. Each game in the series is capable of standing on its own without any reliance on future games, barring the post-credits Ocelot-conversations. Each sequel builds on the previous games in the series. You could also say maybe they retcon some stuff, but it's usually stuff that's vague enough as to not be important UNTIL they "retconned" it. Some people don't like the story, and that's fine, but this is how the games have progressed, and this is where V fails. It's utterly and completely unfinished. This is obvious to everyone, even the people who otherwise don't give a shit about the story. Whether that's Kojima's fault alone or Konami's fault for bailing on Kojima or some combination thereof, it's whatever, it is what it is, but it's undeniably resulted in a rushed product. V, unlike every game prior is forced to rely on future games. This is made all the more painful because it's unlikely we'll ever even get a future game, given all the drama and bullshit surrounding development. But! V is undeniably the most modern and open and arguably polished of the MGS games, which means that people who don't like previous games' gameplay can jump right in and enjoy the fuck out of it. It loses a lot of the, um, what's the word, the... purity? That's too strong, but I dunno. The purity of the earlier games' simple and straightforward gameplay. That's sacrificed for making a real sandbox of a game with many many many different ways to approach every goal. Which is fine, but also a little sad. MGSV is really really really goddamn fun, regardless of how I feel about the gameplay. I'd say in terms of gameplay they're almost incomparable, but whatever. Also there's that indie game I can't remember the name of that looks to play almost exactly like MGS1, except with a more modern feel. And includes a level editor, I think?! God I wish I could remember the name of it. It looked good.
  5. No Man's Sky

Tempering expectations is one thing, but that's not what's happening. It's people screaming "this game is going to suck, nobody even knows what you do" over and over, louder and louder, in an effort to convince themselves or others, who knows. But it's fucking annoying and I run into it everywhere I go.
  6. No Man's Sky

Basically.Much more energy spent talking about how it's not going to live up to the hype than for any other game I've ever anticipated. Ridiculous and boring and at times irritating.
  7. Life is Strange: Tween Peaks

Beat the game. All of it was good. Yay!
  8. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Wait since when they're great! Especially 2. And 4!
  9. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

    Except for 2 and 4!
  10. Yeah Ben, you're right. I was thinking the same, just didn't wanna commit to it without asking others first. Scratch that one off the list, then! Quiet definitely counts, also cause of the reasons Ben stated. Inara definitely doesn't count. It's be different if, for example, she was sexy because sex workers in firefly were genetically designed to be sexy. Think Miranda from mass effect (she's not a sex worker, but she does have a REASON for being sexy that is not her choice). I think maybe choice vs no choice is the other deciding factor here guys. So: 1) it's an in-lore explanation for why they're sexy and 2) the character itself has no say in the matter. Inara qualifies maybe for 1), but does not for 2). My proposed Bishamon qualifies for 2) (or at least she never outright says she wants to be sexy), but not 1)!
  11. Hey I think this one qualifies?? It's gonna take some explaining, so strap in! Or don't. Bishamon is the god of war in the anime/manga series Noragami. Gods in Noragami have Regalia, which are formerly-alive human spirits whom the gods adopt as part of a... family, shall we say. These spirits can be called upon by their weapon name, and this enables the gods to fight whatever they need to fight. Bishamon, when not dressed for war, wears rather normal clothing. But when she calls upon her fighting Regalia, this includes changing her outfit (as well as potentially equipping her with a giant-ass sword, a deadly whip, a pair of twin revolvers, and a goddamn lion with an eyepatch (f'real)). So, the backstory is that this is the armor she wears to fight... I think qualifies? (Also, if someone can explain to me why I find Bishamon to be badass instead of pandering, while I find other similarly dressed women in anime to be pandering instead of badass, even when they are actual badasses, please do. I can't make peace with this fact, for some reason. I've posited that it's because she's never framed sexually by in-world characters (no perverted stares, not a single one!!!) or the camera, but, for example, Yoko from Gurren Lagann has bouncing boobs all day long.)
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

They make the ads entertaining, at least! Also see I hate video ads more than anything else. This is also why I don't watch, like TV. Anything, ANYTHING that interrupts my video is moderately likely to just make me stop watching the video or stream altogether.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

Haha I just am not passionate about it so it's weird for me to defend it. I fuckin' hate ads more than anyone I know. But I prefer the things I enjoy to exist more than I hate ads.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

    I don't know why I responded!
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

Websites get money for the ad simply loading, even if you don't click it, so saying you ignore every ad you see doesn't matter to the people who need that money. I use AdBlock, FWIW, but I turn it off for smaller websites that I know won't have intrusive ads. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing situation. Also often people need that ad revenue not for personal income, but just so they have some money to actually host their website. Usually the ad revenue isn't even enough to pay for all of it, but it helps, so of course they're going to use it.
  16. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Yeah the FOB stuff is just absolute bullshit. Like all of it. It's a nice idea but when my resources are literally unavailable to me if I'm not online, you can go fuck yourself. Fortunately, as I said earlier, I was lucky enough to never be invaded. So even though I only really started playing in earnest after the patch that changed shit, it didn't affect me much. But christ. What a bad thing.
  17. Best Robinsonade games?

Haha yeah I imagine so. I'm looking forward to ittttt.
  18. I enjoy the activity surrounding these games more than I enjoy the games themselves. (Meaning I basically just don't play 'em.) People sure do love to hate David Cage!

That was maybe the most beautiful and incredible and sublime experience of my entire life. I was dying at work I could not contain my laughter, oh man.
  20. Best Robinsonade games?

Was watching the trailer for Boundless ("announced" at the Sony event yesterday) and was thinking "this looks like what I hope Oort Online turns out to be". http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/10/28/boundless-announcement/ http://playboundless.com/ Welp. It IS Oort Online, rebranded, and now with help from Sony. This? This excites me. Also end of the trailer has grappling hooks so it's immediately the greatest game ever.
