  1. Well I do see plenty of things in things, especially after hearing other people's things. I didn't mean to say I don't see things at all. Just that it's much harder for me than it seems to be for, well, everyone else. I just generally have trouble seeing things without first discussing things. But I have, uh, discussed The Passage with people before and it, specifically, is completely and utterly meaningless even in its lack of things. I'm not ambivalent toward it, like, say, The Sense of an Ending; I actively dislike it. I tried to emphasize that, but I guess I failed. I know and understand what people see in The Passage. I still hate it. Moreover, MoMA itself may not interest me, but video games are core to my entire existence. I gots plenty of opinions. I see and appreciate why most of the rest of the list was chosen. The Passage, in particular, stands out as the rotten fruit. Hell, I can even sort of see why they picked Canabalt. While it's nothing spectacular - and I wouldn't choose it - it is sorta formative, in terms of a specific genre of games. It wasn't the first autorunning, infinitely-long-level, single-button game, but it was a relatively big one. There are a LOT of these kinds of games on mobile platforms. But all that said, I realize that it's stupid to say that just because I think it's a meaningless thing, that makes it so. Clearly some people, for whatever reason, care about it. So... more power to you, I suppose! ALSO: things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things things also: qwop should've been on the list, hee-hee
  2. There was no message for me. I get that other people found something in the game. I didn't... It was boring. A thing has to be more than boring for me to care enough to bother looking for meaning in it*. I'm not going to put effort into discovering the meaning behind watching paint dry, or grass grow, or [insert other stupid cliche]. *Even then, I can't usually find anything. The book club 'cast has just proven to me how little I actually get out of any form of art. I did The Sense of an Ending and... it was a book about a dude. It had no effect on me. Boy did I try to make it have one, because I've wanted for so long to be able to have those kinds of reactions. I think I'm dead inside. But... but I did try. I'm trying again, now, with Cloud Atlas, although it's a really slow read because I can't stand the old-timey style of writing (even when it makes sense in context, as it does here). Trying and... failing again. It's just a book about a dude. Well, multiple dudes, I guess? I haven't gotten to the multiple dudes, yet. But The Passage doesn't even get that out of me. I have no desire to even try. It's just a stupid thing that exists and doesn't inspire me to even think about it. Even as we have this discussion, I'm not really thinking about The Passage. I'm only thinking about other works of art that haven't had any effect on me. I'm probably an asshole or something so I'm sorry. I just... can't. )':
  3. Hotline Miami

The music is there from minute one. It's apparently incredibly buggy for a lot of people, in general. I had a bunch of hard-lock crashes when I first played it. Had to restart my PC. It was awful. First patch fixed that for me, never had any issues after that. Other people still do. ): Oh, I do still have the bug where the cheesemint you get for unlocking all cheesemints doesn't unlock, but I don't really care about that, so. And, yeah, it's a very twitchy game. I'm kind of surprised you thought it'd be stealthy at all, considering the comparisons to Super Meat Boy - both on and off the Idle Thumbs 'cast. U:
  4. All I got out of The Passage is "this is really boring". I understand why some people actually got something out of the game, but I just hated it. It did literally nothing for me except make me not want to play it.
  5. Applepine? I realized an hour ago that I link my YouTube page on my Steam profile. Not that hard to find me. MAKES SENSE NOW.
  6. Haha, I think somebody I wronged in Dota 2 found my YouTube channel and went on a rampage. I only ever link the videos here and to friends elsewhere. I can't imagine any of you are the types to use homophobic slurs, and I know my friends aren't. I'm... kind of pleased that I pissed someone off to this degree, because he clearly deserved it if he's gonna say that kind of shit. (In fact, the only people I ever "wrong" in Dota 2 ARE the people who say that kind of shit.) U: I guess that makes me a bad person.
  7. "Create Machinima and join the You Tube revolution!" O lawd. Seems neat, though. I think I recall hearing about it, now, too.
  8. I bought Fraps. I'm unaware of anything else. I know there's some good stuff for Macs (as I'd often get Mac-exclusive stuff when searching for things), but since Dota 2 isn't available for Mac, yet, I would assume you're not on a Mac. U: Source Engine has its own convert-to-video stuff built in, but I've never had much success with (and also never put much effort into learning) it. After that, I edit with VirtualDUB, which is free, open-source video editing.
  9. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

I will surgically shave them smaller with a knife!
  10. Sportsfriends!

I've been on the edge over Sportsfriends for a while, but I don't think I can justify it. I don't have the necessary equipment, and I don't live close enough to the people I know to gather them At My Place. And now that they've made it, my money doesn't matter, anyway.
  11. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

I have no issue with it except it means I'm less likely to care, 'cause having that shit sitting around my place is kinda embarrassing. YO CHECK OUT MY TIT-MINIATURES. I CALLS 'EM TITIATURES FOR SHORT. Never really been into that whole scene, although I know a few who are. Granted, they would probably all sit in the box, but it's still a deterrent for me.
  12. The Hobbit...

Eh, fair enough. Most of what I remember is from the middle of the book, not the beginning, where things are a lot less goofy. Probably. It doesn't help that I am a three-year old, maybe.
  13. The Hobbit...

For a long while, I'd heard that the book was written specifically for children. Somewhat recently (as in, a year or so ago, maybe?) someone told me that wasn't strictly true and supplied a quote that proved it to be so, and I have no idea what that quote was or what it even vaguely sounded like. I can and I will. I don't think simple and, what's the word... "fun"? Not really. I can't think of it. Something like that. I don't think simple and "fun" necessarily means "for children". I also still don't really care. I'M EXPRESSING MUCH MORE CARE HERE THAN I ACTUALLY HAVE. EDIT: "Light-hearted" maybe? Eh, still not right. This is bothering me now. Either way, this is probably the last I'll say on the subject unless something interesting comes out of a response to this post. SORRY FOR THE BOTHER.
  14. I mean that happens sometimes, but usually you get kicked right back into the queue and it'll pop another within thirty seconds.
  15. Yeah, that too. I always have everything but Captain's Mode on.
  16. The Hobbit...

from le wiki Sounds to me more like it's a book written for everyone' date=' not a book written for children (aka "not a children's book"). I find it odd that people would classify it as a children's book. Always have. But I don't really care, either.[/size']
  17. Queues are usually pretty quick for me. Very rarely more than three minutes, these days. Hell, even taking more than a minute only happens about half the time. What region(s) are you playing in?
  18. Those ball-of-darkness neutral kill videos get me every time.
  19. The Hobbit...

Worth nothing that I also heard that the 48fps is exclusive to 3D. Don't know if that's true, either, but I thought I'd throw it out there. U:
  20. The Hobbit...

I got partway through The Two Towers before BLEH BORED and gave up. I wouldn't equate it to The Terminator, because I gave it a much bigger chance before giving up. I heard from SOMEWHERE that I can't remember that 48fps makes people feel sick? That seems weird to me.
  21. The Hobbit...

I insinuated it before, but now I'm gonna say it straight, 'cause what better time than now, when ev'rybody's all in a tizzy! The Hobbit is better than The Lord of the Rings trilogy. My only metric on this is as follows: I was able (and, indeed, wanted) to finish The Hobbit. I was unable (and, indeed, did not want) to finish The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
  22. Things That Improve Your Life

I don't like f.lux. I tried it a year or two ago. I understand the idea and it sorta makes sense when I'm just using the computer to browse the internet, but it makes the colors go all funky when I'm trying to watch a video or play a game.
  23. Things That Improve Your Life

I use an alarm clock that forces me to do math problems or I can't turn it off. ...Of course, all that really means is that I've gotten pretty decent at doing really quick algebra after having just woken up, at which point I close my eyes again. I'm so bad at just Getting Up in the morning. ): Just heard about this thing! I guess it crawls the web for coupons and tries 'em for you, sometimes with success, at a bunch of online shopping sites. I just tried it, and the codes didn't work. but might be neat for those few times it does work! http://www.joinhoney.com/
