(You don't need tetanus shots for burning yourself with hot cheese.)

That reminds me: my school nurse once told me I needed a tetanus shot because I burned my hand with hot cheese (from the pretzel cheese machine!! don't judge me). Don't judge me. (get yer shots, kids)

And I never said it was! I'm just saying that's irrelevant to my questioning the logic of a remake!
-
Literally none of that stops me from wishing they'd made a brand new game without the baggage of being a remake.

I did a horrible thing and am not regretting it. Shin Megami Tensei IV is a good game. It's so fucking difficult. Sometimes, I think, unfairly so - random monsters randomly one-shotting my party, and fleeing fails until I die - but for the most part, I'm enjoying playing a JRPG where I actually need to learn and think about what I do. Definitely reminds me of my time with Etrian Odyssey. (The first one. I still want to get/play through 2, 3, 4. And I hear there's a 3DS remake of the first one coming out, which just makes me sad. Why a remake?!) The dialogue/voice acting is horrific, though. I haven't looked into whether I can use Japanese audio or not, but this is one of those times I would choose to do so, could I.

Interactive Fiction/Text Adventures (and their engines)
Twig replied to Ben X's topic in Video Gaming
It has nothing to do with being intimidated and everything to do with being driven off by its inanity. The point of death was just a convenient excuse to give up on something that wasn't drawing us in. If I found it at all interesting, I promise that I wouldn't have stopped just because I was confused or because I died. EDIT: Hey what shammack said. EDIT EDIT: Also I just want to make sure everyone knows I'm not being dismissive of people's appreciation for the game. Fuck knows I love some shit ain't nobody else in the world appreciates! Like I said, I can't like everything. U:- 61 replies

I'm not contesting that, just saying that it doesn't seem at all like it was intended to be commentary on first person shooters to me. Or, rather, that either case is just as likely as the other.

It's true, KRZ is similarly meandering, but it's so beautiful and I love the writing. Whereas this is text and I hate the writing.- 61 replies

It wasn't the death that bothered me. It was the pointlessness of the whole thing. Space mutant bees or whatever had the same effect. It just feels like randomness for the sake of randomness. Maybe there is something deeper in there, but it's so off-putting that I stop caring almost immediately every time I decide to give it another chance. Which is weird for me to say, 'cause I love randomness for the sake of randomness. Maybe it's because there's allegedly supposed to be something else to it, and I'm looking for it and it's not there. But whatever, I guess. Can't like everything.- 61 replies

This was my experience except that it didn't make me feel old confused and grumpy, it made me feel like I'd wasted my time. When I started, I wanted to get to the end, but it was so nonsensical that I lost all desire five minutes in.- 61 replies

Uh I'm pretty sure he just wanted to get the raccoon the hell away from his dog and had no innate desire to fuck up an animal. MAJOR STRETCH to call it animal abuse.

Foils are rare drops that take the place of normal drops, and you can only craft a foil badge once (per game, obvs). It doesn't have five levels like the regular badge.
-
Or maybe it's just a funny joke? I mean I've long wanted a game like that to exist, but purely for the morbid humor opportunity it presents. And this game delivered perfectly on that front.
-
Wait what. You're making the joke, right?

Welcome to copyright trolls. EDIT: It occurred to me that since "patent trolls" are a real thing, the same might hold true for copyright. Turns out it's true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_troll So my statement above is very inaccurate. BUT WHATEVER I'M STICKIN' WITH IT.

Cheesy as it is, that melancholic stringy music style always gets me. I love it. Also, I have a lot of friends who for some reason found the first season lacking, but I fucking loved it. More than the original series. I'M EXCITED ALSO!!

(I also continue to be a fan.)

Irishjohn: Heh yeah. Anyway, I didn't mean to be so confrontational about it. Sorryyyyyy. Sno: Yes. ):

That's a little more fair, I think. The TF2 team is a lot smaller than it used to be. I think it was mostly devoted just to making the new weapons work.
-
I really don't think there was anything preventing them from implementing what they did here. "If you don't interact with the game, you don't get drops." That's essentially what it amounts to, as well as not allowing external programs, which is something they already disallow/detect/punish anyway.
-
I just don't understand why they're bothering now. For years people have been idling in TF2 and (in some cases) making money by doing so. What's prompted it to happen now? So weird.

Yeah, sure, the internet is the best. I'm not denying that it is a problem. Just... questioning the logic behind "I had a problem, and the lack of MASSIVE OUTRAGE massively outrages me!" (I'm exaggerating. Whatever!)
